This week I have been at my friend John's shop to attend the Richard King scraping class, and also help him and Lance out on some different shop projects. I will be there helping Richard with his class and also working on some machining projects including some machine tear down. I will have a few different videos to post on this weeks activities.

Russ M, I agree, I don’t think Brian has much trouble on any tricky jobs. He does some amazing set ups on all kinds of weird shapes and sizes. I guess if all else fails they’ll finally take it to him to fix it right. Keith Rucker does some nice work and he might pull it off, so good luck to him. A little disappointed that Adam gave up on after having it so long.

GoPro's are notorious with voltage fluctuations when they get chilled and really cold. A lot of KZfaqrs up north are having issues of all kinds. Many of them have resorted to using 1" inch thick pink foam board to make a box for the back of the camera with room inside to stick a hand warmer pack inside.

Rule #1 in recording audio; check that you have audio, thqt your batteries are full, have spares, etc. Rule #2 in recording audio; always have two separate devices recoding so that if the primary mic fails, you still havea a backup recording that may sound crap but at least you have something. You can get small recorders from Zoom or tascam that do a good job, you can mount them next to your camera so they will hear the same sound.
@Abom79

Defeats the purpose of having a single GoPro camera in your pocket and recording on the fly. Do you see folks who use them skateboarding, dirtbike riding, skydiving etc. using separate audio mics? The camera should work as designed and sold to us.

Ref. (Stoker) Good choice Adam. Knowing machinery limits and not over stepping, is the safest option. Obviously camera angles show one version and from the actual picture it will appear differently. This is something for all of us to consider. The physical dimensions of the machine that is needed to cut the flats, would be a big machine. As you mention keeping centricity and linear planes true would be difficult with what you have currently (as good as they are). Good job man.

Greetings Adam. Someone left a comment on one of my videos about your audio equipment and issues. I feel your pain. Nothing like trusting the audio ( or auto focus ) and find out after the fact, you've been let down. One good thing about studio voice over is that you can accelerate the footage and not sacrifice any audio that may be attached to it. I think I've solved my focus issues, now onto better audio. Good luck getting it squared away. Stay well.

One way to test the wireless mic is to plug the receiver into your pc, there should be a recording app on there, if not, download Audacity Or if you have an amplifier that takes that plug or an adaptor from 3.5mm to 6mm, wiggle the wires etc to find faults. One of the things i'd recommend, have a mic plugged into the camera, then use a recording mic on your person, you'd haver to remember to make a noise to sync both mics (bang 2 tools together, then in editing line up the peaks) whatever way you decide, try to have 2 mics

Hi Adam, I run a Go Pro Hero 3 and had audio problems with it. The audio was either out of sync or not picking up any audio at all. After a lot of research I found out that if the SD card is allowed to become half full of files, it caused the camera to experience the audio problems I was having. Now, I film my segments for our Patreon Channel and make sure I clear the audio files off the camera after I have downloaded them to my hard drive. Since adopting this, I have eliminated all my audio problems, the camera now works perfectly. It was very frustrating and annoying until I stumbled on the fix. Hoping it might help you out. Great video by the way, always look forward to your videos. Regards a fan from Aus.

I'm gob-smacked that the stoke engine job has you stumped - that must be really annoying having made that mounting plate for it too. It seems ideal for a shaper despite the depth although I did think a mill would have been a better way to tackle in. I could imagine using a horizontal mill with a spindle extension with an end mill mounted outside the arbor support - so using the rigidity in the over arm support to stabilise a longer spindle - there'd be room for the overarm assembly in the stoker engine casting - then the milling cutter just accessing one of the surfaces to be machined at a time.

If I have to wear a mask when I leave the house to walk on my driveway whoever confronts me is going to have a bad day! I see people wearing masks driving alone in their cars or walking down the street with nobody anywhere near them! It doesn't work that way! The Virus is NOT just randomly floating around in the air! The "PanicDemic" is more of a problem than the real Pandemic! Yes we need to take precautions, but not go totally nuts in either way! Those that are scared to death and overreact and those that choose to ignore it and underreact should find some middle ground. And my Doctor agrees! I'm 62 and my Mother is almost 93 and he says to wait on the vaccine for a bit. Side affects and rushing it through clinicals is a concern and I have some experience in the Medical Industry...

I stopped using gopro when I had a 4.if you used the WiFi and phone app to control it the audio had a helicopter sound. Gopro knew this but did not recall the cameras. There are far better cameras for what you need. You don't really need a sports camera for everything. How about making a magnetic camera mount and have a couple of cheap $150 cameras mounted around the shop. Gopro is a brand that in my opinion is way over priced and lacks functionality. Your iPhone looked and sounded great.
@littlejackalo5326
@littlejackalo5326 3 жыл бұрын
Are you suggesting using the iPhone to record?Talk about lacking functionality. That is almost as bad as when I have students come for high level sciences that require a lot of math, and when I ask them if they brought their calculator they say, "no but I have my phone." LOL. You can't do math with a phone calculator and expect to do well. The phone turning off, having to unlock it, notifications, distractions, the screen doing between portrait/landscape, etc. Same goes for producing hours with of video each week. You can't shoot 10 hours of video per week with a cellphone. $150 cameras also aren't going to do what he needs them to do.
@Tangobaldy
@Tangobaldy 3 жыл бұрын
@@littlejackalo5326 The iphone is 100x better than recording than a crappy gopro and far more reliable. I am thinking you never have used either. Anyone who does videos seriously has more than one camera for different circumstances. And in this case he had backups. I was saying unless your jumping out of an airplane, scuba diving a sports camera is not very good and lack the functionality built in like an iphone. Gopro has no decent mic, screen, or cloud services. There really is no comparing the two. The only issue with the iphone is the fragility of it. And that's the only downside. Also the iphone has a decent scientific calculator on it which is exactly the same as any other scientific calculator. And as a BOD you would know not all calculators give the same answer. But that's easily tested. you can disable screen lock when using it. I wish you were local so i could show you how a cherap camera can easily outperform an overpriced gopro. You keep teaching math and I hope you do it with a passion. If i was a student of yours i soon tell you that you need educating.
@Tangobaldy
@Tangobaldy 3 жыл бұрын
@@littlejackalo5326 ps I owned a £1000 sony camera and it fell forward onto dust and was wrecked. A gopro would have been a better option for that filming. You need a camera with a mixer device built in or capture on a sep device like a zoom h5. If one fails you got another audio back up source. Or at least have a camera with audio level meters so you can see if your capturing audio.

We use some long reach tooling that would more than be enough to get down in there on our milling machines. They use special extensions that lower and almost eliminate vibrations. I am not sure if I missed it but did the hero 9 rode combination work at some point? I had similar issues in the past with rode and recording hardware and the source of the problem was the cable connection. The rode had a stereo 2.5mm jack output and the recording hardware had mono 2.5mm jack inputs.

I watch a lot of channels on KZfaq Adam & it's surprising how many are having audio problems with the Hero 9. Not sure what they're doing about it, I know some have gone back to the Hero 8.

I recommend you use a separate audio recorder from the camera and then sync the audio with the video together in post processing.
