@@RonS1018 You mean when the name "Ryan Drake" is said once with absolutely no context in a thick, weird, bad pan-Slavic-esqeu accent? It's like they're pretending everyone knows who "Ryan Drake" is, when even Drinker doesn't know beyond "as close as I can get to aping Jack Ryan (with an additional name-steal from Nathan Drake) without being sued into the ground". And even Clancy knew that Jack Ryan wasn't Spider-man or anyone else with a real obvious brand, which was, y'know, part of the point Drinker's missing; Ryan's just some guy, not a super-hero, hence the heroic nature of his actions when he chooses intelligently to go above and beyond.
@RonS1018Ай бұрын
@@michaelccozens I mean, voice over sounded pretty clear to me. Also, I never felt that the trailer expected me to be familiar with the character prior. But it does trust that you have a small bit of common sense and ability to understand that the guy who is primary featured in the trailer is probably the title character. The fact the trailer confused you says more about you than it does the trailer. I like how you criticize Ryan Drake for being a "rip off" while then also bringing up Nathan Drake, because... y'know... Nathan Drake was definitely not inspired by Indian Jones. It's almost like creative works take inspirations from other sources. I like how the last bit of this comment (about how Jack Ryan isn't a superhero) is you arguing with yourself. You're the one who made the Spider-man comparison, not Drinker or the trailer. Ryan Drake also seems like just a man who needs to overcome the odds. What the hell was your point?

I think the issue that jordan has that he doesn't realize yet, he has established his channel and his brand on the premise of basically complaining about the current state of hollywood movies, progressivism, feminism, lgbt and whatever else associated with those ideals represented in media. because of this, he has garnered a massive audience that thinks similarly to him when he talks about these topics in his videos. the topics he addresses has essentially become his brand, his audience loves that he touches on this, in fact they love it so much that they recognize him just for that. and of course, his channel suffers greatly because of it. as we've seen in this trailer, it has become apparent that his audience doesn't care all that much when he talks about things he likes, like reacher, or other content he enjoys. they just want to watch him shit on movies that tackle progressive topics and represent communities that appear different from him and people like him. they very much want to watch those videos because in a sense, it validates them. and they especially don't care very much about this film he set out to make. and it doesn't help that the trailer feels like something we've seen countless times before, even back in the 00s. (even his audience have acknowledged this.) fan or hater, it doesn't matter. if people criticize the trailer just on what it provides, and how it comes across even before the film comes out, then jordan, honey... you already have a problem. not just with this film, but with the fact that you intend to branch out a bit more with your channel. branching out from what you essentially became known for. But one positive thing I will say, he does feel passionate about the film he has set out to make and I can respect that he does have the motivation, the means and a budget to even get his film made. so kudos to him.

I used to like Critical Drinker, I thought he was really funny. I didn't really like the anti-woke angle, but I thought most of the time he was good enough at explaining himself that I thought he was being fair. But eventually more and more examples where I thought he was just off the mark kept cropping up and I quit watching. He was part of what made me come to the woke sounding conclusion that being mediocre or bad is a white privilege. If it's mediocre and not woke, nobody bats an eye. But if it's inclusive and mediocre, it's brain washing propoganda. As opposed to someone like Adam, who is good at seperating the factors. Something like, "This movie being inclusive isn't bad, but X, Y, and Z are bad about it."

Yeah I liked Drinker in the start. Mostly because he reviewed The Expanse. One of my favorite TV shows ever that wasn't getting a lot of traction at the time. But lately he's becoming too much. He rarely offers real criticism and just goes on and on about movies bieng woke. Like just recently saw his review of Roadhouse. Now everyone's shitting in Riad House. He can too. But in the review he constantly refers to the girl who owns the Bar as "Brave Diverse Woman". Like he's making a point. He doesn't offer any other criticism. Because in reality there is nothing to criticise about that character because she never overshadows Jake Gyllenhal like some other female characters do in other movies. And yet he makes a point to constantly refer to her as "Brave Diverse Woman" as if that's a criticism.

@@AydenMartinez-iv3jt Considering how defensive they have been of Drinker and how he, unlike Southpaw, has not actively tried to make an enemy out of them, I don't think they will say anything on thr matter unless forced too because 1. If they truly view him as their friend, I can understand not wanting to tell your friend what they made was stinky on a live stream. Not even unfair of them there. 2. Drinker very rarely pushes back on them. There are only a couple exceptions, and even then it still feels like he is holding back what he thinks a lot. He seems to not want to risk hurting that connection Honestly, I don't even know if Drinker is actually that into conservative politics as much as he is into how much money it gets him. He also does seem to inject just enough nuance for him to point to as a back up defense (such as now he specifies that having a woman beat a man is not in of itself bad writing when he used to almost always imply that directly.)

as a sound editor id maybe reconsider putting pumped up action trailer music over a bunch of half-whispered lines with audible crickets in the background that even cut out momentarily during the dramatic pauses
@TerrenceNowicki2 ай бұрын
Yeah, as ugly as the color palette is, and as generic as all the dialogue and characters seem to be, my main criticism of this is that it has "county out" levels of poor ADR that probably needed to be totally re-recorded.
@mutantfreak482 ай бұрын
@@TerrenceNowicki oh yea the adr is pretty atrocious as well, at times it very obviously doesn't match the lip movement (to my eyes at least). im specifically criticizing just the trailer tho, we don't know for sure if it's going to be like that in the actual movie or not and by the time it's released there is a (very small) chance that it will be recorded to both sound better AND match the lip movement better. the issue with the trailer, whether they've used adr or the actual on-location recordings, is that the mix is shit - the music is too over the top and the voice lines are too quiet and that's really not helped by the fact that a lot of them are either half-whispered or recorded with subpar equipment or even maybe messed up somehow during the post-production process. re-recording could have helped but if they lines are still delivered in the same quiet way (which id like to believe is perfectly adequate for the actual scenes those lines are taken from) it wouldn't help much with all the bombastic music they're drenched in. a few of the lines do sound like they were recorded on location because there's audible crickets in the background which means that either there's been no noise reduction done to those lines (and presumably the rest of the voice recordings in the trailer or even possibly the actual movie) or there has been noise reduction and this is the best they got it to sound because the crickets were just that overwhelming. there is also at least one instance in the trailer where a pause between lines was extended in the trailer by just cutting the last sentence from a line and moving it a second or two down the editing timeline without accounting for the background audio so the crickets just abruptly stop before starting again for that final line. it sounds pretty shoddy (tho honestly ive seen trailers where recordings from an obviously noisy scene like this have been used just as haphazardly so it's kind of a wider issue with trailers nowadays). there's also just not a lot of distinct sound effects throughout the trailer that aren't voice lines, music and trailer-style impact hits and stuff (tho admittedly it's not as overbearing as some trailers ive seen (maybe if i watched the trailer by itself and didn't have adum pausing it every few seconds it'd annoy me more lol)). a lot of the action scenes almost completely lack audio, occasionally there are a few sounds here and there but they're so sporadic that they kinda stick out and draw attention to the scenes where you'd expect there to be sounds but there aren't any. the final montage of violence in the trailer has 2-3 sounds at the start before they just stop despite the fact that there's still plenty of cuts of characters hitting other characters or falling on the floor, things that should be emphasized more with audio. it comes off as unfinished

10:32 This was based on Critical Drinker’s novels and he made a spinoff feature movie about this Downfall character. When I think of first time filmmakers, I imagine them going, “Oh, this is my one big shot to make a name for myself.” I think Reservoir Dogs, Clerks, Evil Dead. I know that’s way easier said than done. If I had a chance to make a movie and I had a small budget to do it with, I wouldn’t make a generic action movie that looks like the straight-to-DVD fare that filled the aisles of the Hollywood Video I used to work next door to in the late 2000s. I would try to make some wild stuff that people would remember. If I couldn’t make something as good as Reservoir Dogs or Clerks, I would try really hard to make something insane yet still coherent enough to understand.
