​@@charliekelly735You know you can play the game yourself? You can throw weapon at enemies, kik theme, dodge left right and back, so yeah it is a deep abd simple combat game.

I agree, the game oozes style also. But "Standard immersive sim" is an interesting term. Even at the standard, it seems a bit harder to pull off than a more typical "boomer shooter" type of affair. Which is part of the reason why small projects such as Gloomwood are taking so long. And a part of the reason why even the "standard immersive sim" is anything but a standard -- but rather rare even on indie levels. The level design alone iN Fallen Aces is really great here in how open it is, how many ways there are, how many choices it gives you. The game pulls few punches here, as soon as you wake up you're already given a couple decent choices in how to handle the "goons knocking at yer door" situation. But that takes a bit more than simply building great environments to smash waves of enemies. Anyhow, hopefully this type will get its "Boomer Shooter" wave too. :-)

You'll be surprised how even the "standard immersive sim affairs" is hard to pull off.

@@Moji55a The level design in this alone makes Bioshock look like the linear corridor shooter it arguably had always been. The Thief fan mission community at ttlg had always been able to make something along those lines (some of those guys and gals were actually signed by Arkane and the like). But it's still all the more impressive as a new game from a tiny team rather than a gigantic studio. With games like this, the wounds of the painfully corridor-like stealth arena Thief reboot are gonna heal. Someday, they're gonna heal. 🙂

@@snakeplissken111 Beautifully put, I always thought Bioshock in general is more of a corridor shooter ala Doom 3, and SIngularity. Also I'm surprised that Fallen Aces turns out to be a competent im-sim because NB doing Gloomwood atm.

@@mohamedrayanetobbal9334 Yeah Bioshock was painfully linear, also in the map design. This coupled with the endlessly respawning enemies screaming and going AGGRO on you the moment they sniff you near -- it makes it really feel like a corridor shooter in comparison to this. I was underwhelmed back in 2007, in particular when the initial buzz had faded some... Still a direct reference in Fallen Aces right at the start of chapter 2 (if you don't pick up the radio immediately and listen). :-)

Arcane might have fallen but we still have new blood and nightdive.

@@gkbrickworks7924 It's a shame that Bethesda didn't get the Indiana Jones license in time and gave the project to Arkane instead of Machine Games. I think that could have been a commercial hit (similar to how CRPG+D&D for Larian was a hit). Plus it would have been a decent fit. Think Thief's grave robbery missions, including vague/cryptic in-universe maps to make sense of -- like something taken straight out of the Grail Diary in The Last Crusade. Ah well. :-)

Arkane Lyon were the dishonored people. They lost their studio heads long ago. Arkane Austin who just closed really just did prey.

Or as Raphael Colantonio posted on Reddit: "The company use to be one at that time. It only fully split at the beginning of Prey and Dishonored2. And even then, it’s hard to really simplify it to this, because Harvey moved to Lyon to lead the creative aspect of D2.”

@@albino_gringo1912 Dishonored started in Austin, as all leads were there at the time. It eventually was a co-production. The split occured for Dishonored 2 and Prey, as both were developed simultaneously. For that Harvey Smith moved from Austin to Lyon (he's back since). And Raphael Colantonio founded Arkane in France (he's in the US since). So it's a bit more complicated.

I was referring to looking at the weapon physically, incase the example shot of me checking a weapon physically at the exact same time code wasn't obvious...

There's literally a document lying right on the table you pick the speargun up where it says as much. It's basically the diary of the guy who's been hired to keep the shark population low. 🙂 That's one of the things I love about this game as well: The world is fairly consistent and wholesale. Not just a bunch of maps with enemies to challenge you and weapons to pick up. If you listen to the radio programme right in your appartment when starting out, you'll hear about the sharks long before eventually meeting them in the second chapter already. Lots of small touches like that. Including Mittens, the "missing cat case" making a "return" later on as well. I have a feeling it's not gonna be the last we've heard of that kittizen of Switchblade City!
