The photo at 7:24 is so helpful! I always want my lenses to have a little veiling in these backlit situations, but not too much. This picture tells me that the Elcan replica gives a really nice amount of that.

This lens does look quite nice and small. The mtf suggests performance at f2 suffers but it seems like it’s suited to female portraiture at f2 - but maybe not other use cases.

This is an interesting lens. It was a banner lens when Leitz Canada first made it. And now LLL has brought it back for all to see and some to buy. Of all the lenses out there this has the best price/performance ratio. For your needs it is ideal. And while I am very tempted I already have some good lenses. What I need is the talent as my wallet can easily outperform my talent. Not because I have a big wallet, either. Maybe Santa will have one under the tree for me. I'll start my list today. Thanks for another great video and another great review. Cheers L8R - Curses, the discount code link does nothing. I get a shopping basket at full retail. You are a very bad influence on me, Matt. No more ploughman's lunches for you. LOL I'll have to wait for a sale on it.

I have a similar set of problems (worse, actually, as I live in the USA and LLL won't sell to us directly... only through their dealer, Popflash, which lists this lens as "call for price" -- usually a bad sign.) I know Matt is crazy about this lens and I'm sure it's wonderful... but I have to ask myself whether it's an additional $800 worth of wonderful vs. the 50/1.5 Nokton I've already paid for. I also know Matt didn't like the Nokton but can't remember whether it was something specific or just left him feeling "meh"...

If I will guess from the theme that it is going, maybe the LLL 35mm 8 Element on the SL? It's good to see there is a glimpse of comparison between the LLL Elcan and your Summarait, as it is now my favorite lens at the moment; while at 1.5 it is painterly soft, I do found it a bit too soft in many use case for portrait and ended up shooting at f/2 most of the time. You mentioned that you mostly shoot the Elcan at 2.8, but from the sample, even f/2 looks pretty good comparing to the Summarit! LLL offerings always spark my interest, but I am patiently waiting for the price on the second hand market to come down, I just can't pull the trigger on it at full price for a replica lens when other vintage are at the same price if not cheaper. Great video as always, Matt!

Hello Matt✌ Absolutely great video and mega shots👌 I'm not really into modelling, in the past the interest was even greater but in the meantime the area of interest has changed. As far as the lenses are concerned, I certainly don't know them and they're not so common here. I would very much like to continue using my old lenses from the 1940s, on the one hand the Biotar Red T 2/5.8cm from 1946 / Primoplan Red V 1.9/58mm from 1951, both are M42 only for the M3 etc not usable on digital as I have them on the Sony. Last shots on M3 in available light , I think the Best in that large space / structure. The skin and the texture and light fall are beautiful. Ah humble man I , doubt ever get a chance to shoot beautiful women ... but to shoot the people that pull in the fish , the families of the Fishing Villages , The fellow travelers on there Fast Ferry out of Saigon ... The streets intimate at night. I have done a little of this. For an Old man of 63 ... I think is pretty good , ELKAN seems to be a good lens. I will examine it. Still loving my 55mm F4 Distagon in the Rollei , and the 50mm DR matching numbers set Summicron. I even have the clam shell carry case for lens and goggles. That case is magic , I recommend that Leica Case. Like I said ; the last was so lovely , just that light.

I owned the Summicron 35/2 from LLL. The build is amazing the image quality is really nice but it has a problem, focus shift, shooting wide open no issue, but once stopped down to f4-5.6 within this range there’s focus shift, forward shift. Once past f5.6, the problem will go away. Not sure if this 50 Elcan has the same issue or not.

Just got it yesterday , didn't have time to play ... took one shot to see if focus square on M11 lined up and on that shot yes .. looks as if a better copy now .
