Fun Fact about the Francis Scene: John says "You've lost weight", Francis replies "Over 60 kg" (the subtitles are incorrect, because he actually says kilograms, which is 132 lbs, a rather odd amount of weight to lose). This is actually a code and a test for Francis. He is telling John that there are 60 ish people inside guarding the boy. And BECAUSE he was honest with John and showed that mutual respect, he let Francis go and "take the night off".

About that... translation is not wrong or off, he says "двадцать" which is 20, so if its over 20 that makes sense with subtitles as well, in which case 60 pounds is around 27kg.

"They couldn't have selected a cuter dog!" Well said! I LOVE the fact that in this man's man, shoot 'em up movie, the picked a dog that even the most stoic man will be thinking, "Awww. Cute puppers." Also, I disagree. I think the dog was mortally wounded & dragged ITSELF (crawled) over to John, to be with his "master" in its final moments. Which, to me, makes it all the MORE heart-rending.

i love the lighting in the red circle bath house scene. Blue is johns colour, its where he's in control, anyone in red is danger/at risk. when john knives the guy in the neck its in blue, but when john gets rolled back in a fight he briefly goes into a red spot light then back into blue, and when they go to the dance floor its green, cos john can't control that whole area and its chaos.

The reason the chose the puppy’s death to be the trigger (rather than the wife’s) was that they wanted the audience to have no remorse for the people John kills. They thought that if it was a human, people might not be okay with all the murder, but because it was a puppy, the audience would be rooting for John.

You guys were talking when he nodded to the doctor to turn off her life-support. The puppy dragged himself to John, if you look closely, you can see the pawprints. Make the arrangements means arrange the funeral for his son. At the end, it wasn't just a Vet, it was a kill shelter, and the puppy was due to be put down the next day. John Wick was supposed to be a down and dirty movie without any CGI or embellishment. Should have given it at very least a 4.5.

I couldn't agree more. For me it's a 5/5 film for what it is. This film was groundbreaking in the way they filmed the fightscenes. Do you remember all the action films before with the shaky camera? Oh, how I hated them. Also the simplicity of the plot is very refreshing. It is so minimal and straight forward. It achieves what it needs to: takes us on an emotional journey with an interesting character. The world building is so rich. Gives us a peek into something we haven't seen before (it's not just a mafia or gangs fighting), there is a worldwide structure. Can I praise the fightscenes again? They are very unique, mesmerising and the camera is static. You can actually see what's going on! It became one of my favourite films after just the first time watching and I'm not a manly man, but a woman who just enjoys all kind of genres.

3.5 stars, because it’s low budget? C’mon man that is something that should add points. The ending being a knife fight is because literally they ran out of blank bullets and couldn’t afford more. Keanu’s stunt work, his weapons handling, his acting. The way the build up John wick by having a character say “oh”. They make you fear him before they give details on him. The unique world it’s set in, how assassins are everywhere and have their own system. Their currency, their code, the concept of the continental. The cop…. All these touches that show you how the world in which it’s set is slightly different, and each sequel builds on it. Until you get the mind blowing opening sequence of John wick 3. “Tick tock”

Point is the pulled off a good action revenge movie with plenty of original elements, the “gun fu” is so original and cool. Took a lot of training. The fact the managed all that on a low budget is a good thing. Lots of great movies have low budgets resiouvior dogs, primer, saw, 12 angry men. Psycho Those last two even had small budgets for 50s and 60s First movie has the lowest budget, so it’s action was more modest and less hugely over the top like the sequels. It deserves pints for having a low budget, not penalties. Low budgets makes good movies more impressive because they had to work harder and be more creative…

If you like the gun fighting sequences, watch "Equilibrium," starring Christian Bale. In it they train in what is called a "Gun Kata," where they learn to kill as many people as possible from one position, with or without close combat. Cool stuff. John Wick's gun fighting style is reminiscent of that, almost an incorporation of it, for extreme efficiency of movement.

That has always been a little bit amusing to me. I guess it's not as easy to pick up on if you're not very familiar with the Swedish language though, and It's really the only tiny bit criticism I can give, because the man was a brilliant actor and writer. Someone on another reaction video noted that Viggo served his son, Iosef, the bottom shelf crap vodka in a cheap glass and even though he poured himself one, he never drank it WITH his son. Viggo just puts it back on the bar. Viggo punches his son, goes behind the bar, and then pours himself top end vodka in a top end glass and drinks it by himself. That's how low he thought of his son at that point.

I'm a big fan of how Viego is just losing himself through the movie with his choice of numbing substances, starting from that high-end alcohol, skipping the health drink before diving into the weed. I love that trope of the henchman letting the hero go into the place they're guarding. I get nice reminders of the Batman cartoon where a goon Batman beat up earlier leaves him alone after finding and then telling another goon that he found nothing before heading home.

My favorite part of this movie is the scene with Francis (Kevin Nash) and not just because it is a funny scene, but they were actually talking to each other in code. When John asks how much weight Francis lost, Francis replies 60 lbs. But if you listen he said kilograms, when he spoke in Russian (because of the metric system). 60 lbs. is 27 kilograms and there were 27 guards watching Iosef inside the club. John wasn't asking about his weight, he was asking Francis how many people he would potentially have to kill. I believe John asked Francis in code, because he saw that Francis had his earpiece in, so just in case Francis' radio was transmitting. This was confirmed by Kevin Nash in an interview.

First time watching the channel, one of mu favorite action movies, several reasons why: the action sequences are truly revolutionary, Keanu Reeves is a perfect casting, the highlighting of "the code" is always a good element if done properly and this is done most properly, the cast is excellent, just a great story. I know someone else has probably already stated this, but the "dancing" with guns, is called 'Gun Kata'. Gun Kata was coined in a movie called equilibrium released around 2002, and is an offshoot of Gun-Fu, popularized by film maker John Woo. Although Gun Fu and Gun Kata are modern movie gun-fight choreography styles... there is SOME basis in reality and the style has been used in highly stylized eastern action movies for a very long time. It has also, incredibly become its own ACTUAL martial art in years since because at close to medium range, with lighter weapons, it does work to a scary degree against multiple close range assailants. The reality of the emerging art of gun kata, is that it is a form of close to medium range gunplay, where you don't aim properly, but instead aim your arm/hand at where YOU would be the most vulnerable/present, were you to be in your opponents shoes. (Essentially you shoot where you'd punch if unarmed) You are supposed to forget you are holding weapons and instead envision the gun as an extension of your own arm, much like you would wield a katana.

Keanu was professionally trained to shoot with different weapons by Taran Tactical so he really developed this skills, they also went for the realism to the point of counting the bullets and reload so it is accurete, they created very detailed underworld that gets revealed more and more in each movie with it`s rules like Continental being safe grounds and the place the coins take etc so you don`t just watch for the action but to understand the world they are in. Markus couldn`t say no because for sure he would`ve been shot so he doesn`t contact John
