Sohyang has many epic songs. Some of them are English cover songs. All amazing - as good as this and maybe better but in a different way. Her English songs are mostly in Immortal Song 2. Her ability to make me tear or have goosebumps are unparalleled.

I first heard the song Arirang in 2015. I found it odd cause as a child I would hear that exact song in my dreams and it haunted me until 2015 when I found out it was a real song. I cry every single time I hear it and it makes me feel so homesick I want to pound my chest and sob. Not sure why. I am 56 years old and just cried through your entire review. So Hyang has a pitch perfect voice and if you don't feel anything when she sings you must be dead. I was so happy to hear her sing Arirang and I consider it the best out there.

Sohyang's rendition injected elements that incorporated the tumult and chaos from Korean's history of wars and foreign occupation, as well as the longing for peace and reunification to make this song an epic saga here. The musical composition is almost cinematic that you can visualize the story unfold in front of your eyes. Very much in agreement with your comment about this akin to a Broadway musical. In her career of 20+ years, Sohyang has left us with numerous fabulous performance to enjoy. I agree with whoever it was that named Dimash, Morissette, and Sohyang as the "trifecta of amazing singers from around the world". There are others, but those three, I think, are the most impressive. My personal favourite is Sohyang because it feels like she's singing directly to me, which is something a lot of her fans also feel. She's an empath, or something... But from a technical standpoint, they're all incredible. Dimash 6+ octaves, smh... The violin player is Sue Son. She was once on Britain's Got Talent, 10 years ago or something like that.

Arirang is a traditional folk song about the hope that one day the people of the north & south of the country will live together as one again. The original is a very simple folk song that is a million miles away from what you've just heard but was turned in to this more 'anthemic' version by sohyangs amazing talent at arrangements (she does the arrangement s to all songs she performs). This is very emotional song for Koreans because this song is about North and South Korea become together as one nation. We still have so many seperated families who have been hoping to see each other before they die. Everytime I listen this song, I cry. 😭

As Arirang is considered an "unofficial national anthem" of Korea, its essence captures the history of hardships and pain Korea and its people have suffered in their past, but also threads through it a glimmering theme of hope, resilience, and togetherness. When she sings about the lonely island in the East sea and the rough winds whipping the island and asks, "Dokdo, did you hang in there alright last night", the song is referring to an island off the coast of South Korea which was stolen from the nation amongst many other things during the brutal frame when the Japanese attacked, abused, and occupied the nation for several years. But they often conveniently omit this part of their history from their education system and still try to claim the island as theirs, so the song sweetly "checks on" Dokdo to see if it's doing alright.

The original is much simpler and So Hyang made this version for the show. She arranged the orchestra, the background singers to create this masterclass version. So Hyang specifically arranges every part of the kind of band she wants, yes, she is that good. Sorry, don't know who the violinist is. I love *So Hyang*, she was the person that reminded me not to use the word *"best"* when i hear other *"best"* female vocalists. So i will throw shade at the people who spam absolutes without a single nuanced thought given.

The original song which was a very mellow folk song released in 1990 does not sound anything like this. Sohyang pretty much made it a completely different song, different genre. It's one of kind.
