thanks for sacrificing one, pretty cool to see the pressure control inside and hidden ports/ducts.

Great video as always. I thought I had a valve cover gasket leak, but now looking at this I think my fuel pump gasket is the culprit.

These engines are designed to have the cover on top of the motor that helps with keeping the heat cycles to a minimum

I think the vtt valve cover sets it up properly. It seems to be much better than when i had the ross racing set up. I bring vacuum to the intake cam side, and the exhaust side has a line to a catch can and a breather. I dont think combining the high and low sides worked as well. But i may have never even noticed until i installed the vtt valve cover and had something to comapare to. Obviously this also would only really work if you plug the head ports. But I don't see why someone would upgrade the cover and do an external pcv and not plug them. Perhaps if they just don't know about it? No idea. People buy bigger turbos which delete a portion of the pcv and then don't address the rest of the system. And then they experience their diaphragms constantly failing or have idling issues. They claim that bmw has a poorly designed pcv system all the while having absolutely no idea how it worked or what they modified.

Sounds like you're missing a lot of info. FYI BMW extended the warranty on the PCV system because it's so bad. It fails on completely stock cars. Do more research.

Would love to see what/how a few of the performance companies out there are doing to modify these for the Supra covers.

The Valve cover on the B58 is quite complicated. I had a problem with an OEM valve cover with a very bad check valve that caused oil to slit into the combustion chamber. I bought a new original one and no longer have any problem with oil burn. Then I cut the OEM to find out what was inside. It has nothing to separate the oil from the blow by gas. That was a horrible experience.

Thank you for your great video. I wish that I watched your video 6 months before. It could help me a lot

A billet cover with an external check valve and catch can is an even better setup and much more robust

Excellent break down, literally lol So is it best to convert to a vent to atmosphere setup or a Pcv Delete, or would that create too much crankcase pressure? Especially for modded vehicles. Or even just replace the diaphragm each time it busts?

Deleting the pcv system is the most reliable. Just not emissions friendly

Thanks for the video, I really appreciate your content it helps me understand by G30 a lot. After watching one of your videos on Ross Racing I decided to purchase V1 and did a VTA. The strange thing is when I installed the system, it started to smoke out of the my exhaust during cruising speeds or idling at a light. I replaced the three (3) small O-Rings and it still smokes. This is where it gets interesting, when I remove the low side Ross Racing cap (still leaving the high side VTA), the smoke from the exhaust went away completely. I am wondering if there is an issue with the feature (roughly around the 21:36 mark) and thus why it is allowing the exhaust to smoke? I would really like your insight and see what you think, feel free to DM me. I am planning on doing a compression test to make sure that there is no other issues (I am thinking its okay). Specs: G30 - 70K miles Stage 2 MHD and XHP

you sure??? there are oil returns throughout the head so that's a weird spot for one. looks more like a vacuum port.

Very interesting video, thank you! I have a question about these head ports. In boost these ports push air back in valve cover? Thanks!
@kern417
@kern417 Жыл бұрын
No, the check valve system prevents that so air is only routed to the intake in boost. That also explains why a broken pcv/check valve can cause misfires in boost because it can't control it anymore 👍🏾
@kosditrade
@kosditrade Жыл бұрын
@@kern417 Clear, thank you! So a little part inside the valve cover get pressurized in boost thru head ports (before check valve). So this little part can hold big boost pressure? It can not blow up? thanks!

Hi Kern what is the most common b58 issue?

On the "high" side channel which goes to the intake before turbo, is the white piece a one-way valve like the one near PVC or just oil separator?
@kern417
@kern417 Жыл бұрын
Just a separator. It was straight through
@Domas64
@Domas64 Жыл бұрын
@@kern417 Ok, what do you think about this: If you do PCV delete to increase reliability. Could you get away with just blocking it off instead of doing the additional routing like with Ross kit? Everything would vent through the high side. I understand that the kit provides more breathing for higher power levels, but if you are near stock you could just use the high side breather vented to air? Since the majority of gasses are produced under boost and that's when PCV valve is closed anyway.
@kern417
@kern417 Жыл бұрын
I suppose but the downside is that you are always putting gases through the entire intake tract. The goal is to vent it as early as possible, as much as possible. you're basically limiting the venting.
@Domas64
@Domas64 Жыл бұрын
@@kern417 yes that makes sense. But if you compare: Stock system vs blocked pcv and vent to air through catch can from high side: Venting is the same as it won't make difference on WOT. And cost of modification is lower + stock cover fits. Not saying this is an ideal solution but I just don't see it mentioned anywhere as an alternative.
