I would love it if Sony or Nintendo did something like this. Seems like Microsoft is the only one trying to incur favor amongst consumers these days, and I say that as someone who couldn't care less about Xbox.

these look really cool, love the pink one! my only silly criticism of the controller as a whole is that I really don't like the font they chose for the letters on the buttons, it's weirdly big and it almost makes them look like buttons on a knock-off controller. I might be the only one who thinks that though, and I love everything else, especially the d-pad

It's worth mentioning that the controller (with no "engraving") plus the rechargeable battery is a cool $100 when ordered all together through the Microsoft website. While this price isn't entirely egregious it is a bit ridiculous that it costs nearly twice as much as the Sony and Nintendo options in order to get the same charge-n-play effect... in 2021.

I ordered one around a year ago before the new consoles had released, and back then they allowed for grip on the back of the handles similar to how the Elite controller has now. It was an additional charge similar to the laser engraving and I'm really bummed they removed it. They also had the option for a metallic finish on the d-pad and triggers which costed more as well, but that was also removed when they re-launched Design Labs

I swapped the Lunar Shift Special Edition buttons/d-pad/rubber grips/analog thumbsticks into a Robot White Controller and absolutely love the results. I did mess around in the Design Lab but you can't get an exact match on things like the really cool rubber grips with the swirl patterns that come on Lunar Shift and Stellar Shift Special Edition controllers.

I want a gamecube colored one but you cant mix grey and colored buttons, nor 2 stick colors

the design lab looks cool with they added extra options like patterns and colour gradients, as well as the extra recharge battery cover that be cool. I plan on getting one for myself and my brother as an xmas gift

Bob you should make a video about getting a 3D printed color matching battery back. Go through the finding the pattern process and go find somewhere cheap that everyone has in their town to go have it printed and maybe what a good material to use would be etc.

I got a Mario Design Lab controller for Christmas last year. Felt pretty good the first time I used it.

As dope as this is, the Electric Volt controller is literally the color scheme I wanted in ANY controller.

I just watched this video and went to make my own on Xbox Design labs. Apparently the Xbox elite controller is coming this holiday in 2022 for customization. When you said it in this video I thought it would be cool if they did that. I guess they listened. Hot dog!!!

I kept thinking about getting a custom Xbox One controller from Design Lab for a long time but never pulled the trigger. By sheer coincidence, the blue and white Xbox Series controller Microsoft released this year is pretty much exactly what I had in mind for a Design Labs pad (only annoyance being that the d-pad is black instead of blue) so I immediately snapped one up. I'd love to see PlayStation do a similar thing.

I got an xbox one design lab controller a few years ago and it was ALSO based on my beloved pink 360 controller! Unfortunately the 360 style colored button option wasn't available at the time.

Things that i noticed has changed from old desing lab. You cant have metallic colored triggers or d-pad anymore, camo and shadow front options are gone too and the d-pad is the circle thing and not regular d-pad (mainly because they changed it on controllers)

Still trying to get a series X. Will definitely be buying my own custom color controller. It would be cool of we could create something like what you put in the thumbnail

me too! the A button spasms out since day 1. and 8 months in, the analog stick disintegrated. i now have awesome pastel pink&blue e-waste for 80 bucks \o/

I was gonna get one of these back when they had the One S controller, but got a different controller instead because of added functionality. But now I can't get the One S version anymore, even though it looks a lot better than the new one in my opinion: - There's a small indent for the Xbox button, which makes the faceplate look less cheap than on the new one - There's no share button, so it looks cleaner - You could still see the bit between the bumpers, which you can't see anymore on the new controller I've been looking for a new controller for a short while (because that different controller's right trigger is broken) and I would absolutely get an Elite V2 if it was customisable in the Design Lab.

Been sitting on a PS4 for years and finally upgrading to a Series X, got my fancy pants custom lab elite controller on order. Tbh, it was like 219.00USD and I’m not mad at that given what I’ve paid in PS4 controllers/kontrol freeks/back buttons. Tbh, it was a hard choice between that and scuf, but I think the perks on the xbox (especially the warranty) outweighed the scuf. Protip: if you order extra sticks, make sure to pick the color, otherwise you get black backups.

I’ve gone to rechargeable duracells since I bought a series X controller for my One. Sucks that I lost my cradle charger, but the batteries do honestly last a long time. Can keep the duracell battery charger somewhere in the game room. Better than frigging around with getting new back plates IMHO

Fun fact, you can use the 8BitDo battery with the Xbox controller, I may or may not have ripped apart my controller mid game to throw in this battery before I died

Thank you for this, I wasted an entire night making a half dozen variants. Highlights being GameCube variant (purple face back & triggers, blue bumpers, yellow dpad, grey sticks, color buttons). And I did a Pocoyo one for my son with every bright color. Great idea Xbox peeps.

Bob I have a controller mission for you, make one more standard Xbox controller in design labs, with the new rubber grips, the metal buttons (triggers and d-pad don't get too excited) and find a way to give it hair triggers. I prefer the d-pad on the standard over the elite series 2, but I love the grip of the elite, so if it had adjustable or fixed hairline triggers, I think it might be, well really really good.

Really informative video - now, I really like the AA battery approach they take at Microsoft. Seems to promote longevity and if you care about sustainability, buy some rechargeable AAs
