A word of caution using dust collection on the belt grinder. Let the water bucket catch the sparks first then place dust collection further back on the belt. I have found smoldering chips inside my vacuum after grinding. It could have been bad had I not checked. Nice upgrade.

Just prior to Brian releasing his Revolution grinder I was thinking about making a Sayber OSG. Mainly due to it being mostly bolted together; I don't have a welder or any of the skills that go with owning one. :) But... his grinder is pretty badass and his message convinced me to support him and buy his plans. That was quite a while ago and I'm still only in the pre-build stage. I've got my VFD and motor, now I need some steel, wheels, and warmer weather in the garage. It was -18 this morning... :(

I'm in the precess of buying a 2x72". After rearresting researching Bader, Northridge, Reeder, Black Fox Knifeworks and Ameribrade, I finally decided on the Black Fox One (BFO). I liked the Northridge and Ameribrade, but I didn't like the horizontal mount for them. IMO the horizontal attachment is an after thought to compete with the BFO. The Grinder was designed with horizontal usage in mind and pivots close to the center of gravity. I also liked that the VFD is integral to the babe base and stays stationary unlike all the other brands. Also Thaddeus is very responsive to emails and answered all my questions. And I pestered the heck out of him. It's still a couple weeks until I get it, but I'll post a video when I do

I too am in the market for a new 2x72. Northridge and Diktator grinders are the 2 that I have narrowed my search down to. Just got hands on a free treadmill, so looking to build my own at the moment.. I've seen the DCKNIVES blog plans - do you know of any free plans that use a gas strut tensioner instead of a spring?

Very cool DB! I do not. You may be able to fab something up though looking at others. The KMGs have been using a spring for decades without issues though.

I feel like that rest would get loose from vibration, have you experienced it moving slightly? Or is it pretty rock solid?

You'll have to ask them at North Ridge Tool, I'm not sure. www.northridgetool.com/grinders/

Hey Mike, it does put the VFD in a precarious spot. That's probably a win for the Black Fox

ok perfekt, a nice one! but I have one question. I have built my 2x72 belt grinder by my own and and I think this small (belt wibbel-wobbeling) is in case of: the wheels are not in perfekt alighment or lineup...they are not 100% parallely to each other. but...your new belt grinder got the same problem, maybe is problem with the belts? greetings from germany

Hey man, put a new belt on it and check. When I put a new belt on this guy it's rock solid and straight. I should of shot all that video with a new belt...

Hello from Texas. I've been to Germany, it's a nice country. I also spent some time getting my diy belt grinder to track right. Some suggestions for you: 1. Get a nice long straight edge ruler and check that the wheels are on the same plane. Put the straight edge of the ruler against the outside end of the drive wheel and then see if the ends of the other wheels line up. The tracking wheel has to be adjustable so it doesn't necessarily need to pass this test. 2. Is your idler wheel plate (sometimes called a D plate) homemade or did you buy it? Either way, how thick is it? 1/4" (6mm) stock is not going to work because it'll flex too much to allow good tracking. 3/8" (9.53mm) is better. Also use your straight edge to check that the d plate is nice and flat. Hope this helps

How does this stack up to the TW90?
@RedBeardOps
@RedBeardOps 3 жыл бұрын
Hey T, I've never had a TW90, but have heard they're excellent machines. It may be biased feedback, but I've heard people say they like the NorthRidge better.... but I'm sure others will say the opposite. I think the TW90 uses "non-standard" tooling arms too (not 1.5x1.5)... I may be wrong about that though.... bottom line... they're both great machines
