I think it was just too loud. I only got those videos recommended yesterday, but it seems like he's streaming and just cutting together the best bits, so he probably muted himself not just to die laughing, but also be able to edit the scene in without having the audio blown out by his own laughter. I imagined that many American workers had been forcibly moved to Eastern Europe, either because the people in the region were almost completely wiped out during the Seven Hours War, or just because the combine had in turn relocated the Europeans somewhere else. Mass forced relocation of people is a tactic that's sometimes employed in genocides and oppressive regimes to demoralize and alienate people, making them easier to subjugate. If they're not fighting to free their homeland, they don't have as much reason to fight. I know it's just a headcanon thing and the actual reason is for voice acting logistics and to make it more appealing to an American audience, but I always thought it was kind of a cool, plausible idea in-universe.

To be honest, G Man being leader of the Combine could have been a super cool plot reveal moment. Like we know that he's super powerful with interdimensional capabilities, but we don't know why. With him at the center of the Combine (an interdimensional empire) it would make so much sense.
