My mom LOVED this show when she was a kid. She had all the merch and even a diary in which she'd write down when every episode aired and a short description of it. If she missed an episode she'd get extremly upset. (They aired on weekdays only.) She had a She-Ra OC and shipped Adora and Bow together. Calling her obsessed is an understatement.

No hate, but the the show was revolutionary for its time. It taught me i could be feminine and tough and strong, the two were not exclusive. It was a strong woman lead character when we didnt have many other strong women characters to look up to. Sure its corny now and the animation is what it is, but we wouldnt have what we have now without things like this. To understand it in its historical context instead of mocking it from a modrn standpoint might be a better and more open-minded angle.
@zapheil5 жыл бұрын
Artbug Ok but regardless of having a strong female character, the voice acting and animation should be fair game for laughing at, same as any cartoon from any time period with the same low quality in those aspects. A good script shouldn't make every other part of the show untouchable.
@Artbug5 жыл бұрын
@@zapheil adults "laughing" at the script to a childrens show is kinda pathetic imo. And no, criticizing the animation is not "fair game" if youre just comparing it to todays animation decades later; The animation was on par for an american childrens cartoon for its time.
@LuneluChelene5 жыл бұрын
@@Artbug these aren't adults tho, I'd lay 10 bucks down to say the person who made this video is a teenager hahaha. What you're saying is completely right. Not to mention these shows weren't made to be pieces of art, they were made to sell children toys just like most american children's cartoons in this vein. They were made to sell a product and it was done cheap and quick just like the toys.
@KOTEBANAROT5 жыл бұрын
Artbug lol dont blame "the times", filmation was just genuinely shitty and never interested in making animation any good. any animator working there will confirm just how dull and boring a chore it was. they just wanted the cheapest possible product, obviously it looks like shit.
@myrawithrow70625 жыл бұрын
i mean to be fair, now that we have the new she-ra it’s understandable that people are going to make fun of the old one. sure, she-ra was evolutionary in the sense that you can be feminine and strong, but the new one brings light to the idea that you can be happy and expressive and be a man, that healthy gay relationships exist, that women aren’t sexual objects, that they don’t need to wear revealing clothing. ESPECIALLY in combat situations. yes, 80’s she-ra is the foundation of our modern show but no one’s going to respect it when it still sexualized she-ra for no reason other than that’s how society saw independent women. as sex symbols. you wouldn’t kiss your husband’s grandpa passionately because without his DNA you wouldn’t have the man you love today. sure you’d acknowledge his part in your happiness, but if he’s a gross, perverted man you’d likely avoid him because that’s not what you want to be surrounded by. old she-ra is the perverted grandpa you avoid.

I decided to watch the original He-Man and She-Ra shows in their entirety after seeing Season 1 of the reboot. While I laughed out loud at the first episode "The Cosmic Comet" because of how nutty everything was from the concept to the animation to the dialogue, I soon got over it and appreciated the series for what it was. Certainly, it's a show made to sell toys, but there's no denying the fact that, even without the budget and free access to actors as other animation studios, Filmation did a good job at creating a show that not only got viewers invested in the characters, but tried to teach them good lessons, too (One of my favorite ones is "There may be no such thing as a magic potion, but there's also no such thing as a magic drug"). Also, the theme song is great.

I watched the old one and it was my gay awakening lol. I will always love it. I have allllll the cd's and I ADORE them. I still have pictures of me dressed up in a She-Ra costume somewhere. I had my birthday as a costume party just to dress up as her when I was 8 or 9. My mother had to get someone to make me a custom bendable metal crown. The guy who made it was very amused that in 2014-2015 there was still this child watching She-Ra. i haven't seen the new one yet. Honestly, I guess I'm scared that too much has changed. I've seen the character designs and I kind of know who is who?? It's just weird to see these people who are like whole new characters taking upthe space of the beloved characters I used to know. Hordak especially. I have no idea what they did to his design. He doesn't seem as?? Intimidating?? Idk..
