When the Little Mermaid cartoon came out I used a regular Barbie wrapped a washcloth around her waist with a hair tie and made my own mermaid because we couldn’t afford the mermaid one.😩😩🤣🤣🤣🤣

@@geni412💕💕💕💕. I don't remember how much the old Tyco dolls were back in the early 90s. That's the ones I had when I was little, but then my grandma worked at Kmart, so she always got a discount. I don't know how many times she used Kmart layaway lol. They were probably terribly overpriced and didn't sell well since Mattel ended up buying the whole company. The quality of my Ariel Tyco dolls versus the Ariel Mattel dolls is noticable. For some reason they were also shorter than Barbie's 11 inch size. I bet your washcloth mermaid tails lasted longer than mine, as I remember the foil print in the tail peeling after a few plays in the bathtub. She definitely wasn't water safe lmao (I also used to use my grandma's scarves and made evening gowns for Barbie with little hair clips in the back 😆).

it's probably the fact that she's a mermaid. making a doll with a nice looking mermaid tail is hard without making it over budget. but the budget 15 dollar live action Ariel doll is good enough imo. if only it had more articulation on the tail and arms.

Definitely not, Aladdin is a middle eastern, specifically Arab, legend. The actress and the dresses on the dolls are more indian inspired, two very different Asian regions and cultures

@@blah00 The issue with the original, is that she was practically dressed as a harem girl rather than a princess. That’s the improvement I’m referring to. Personally I thought her outfits did look more Arabic than Indian (as her midriff is covered for the film), but we can agree to disagree.

As a kid, Ariel wasn’t my favorite princess, but she was the only Disney princess doll I had and was a part of every bath for years! It was made of a single piece of plastic, with no hair and no articulation whatsoever, but it was a mermaid, so it was my favorite! Kids LOVE mermaids!
