Not only Moses, but Moses with the Ten Commandments there on his right hand and on his left. Just below the meek son of Amram, you will find these words engraved in marble: Justice the Guardian of Liberty."

Historically, the Code of Hammurabi predates the Ten Commandments. My concern about the Ten Commandments being posted in all classrooms is that they will become so familiar as to be meaningless, much like reciting the Pledge of Allegiance or the ritual droning of the Lord's Prayer. The impact will be minimal. Besides that, the commandment against covetousness is anti-American as capitalism is built on covetousness and self-interest, not on love of God and neighbour.

Then you have provided a very good reason to have them displayed in hopes it will convict someone's heart. Because someone not being exposed to the error of their ways will never see it.

That certainly may have an impact on a few people, and that is wonderful. However, merely stapling up the Commandments does not make Louisiana a Christian state any more than wearing a crucifix or possessing a Bible makes one a Christian. It is a form of virtue signaling by legislators in order to appeal to Christians. In my opinion, that demeans the Commandments and the God who gave them. Using Christianity as a political ploy is cheap and blasphemous. That is why church and state must be separate. It protects the church. Al we have to do is look at the abuses and disasters of state endorsed religion in Tudor, Stuart, and Cromwellian England to see how the gospel can be twisted for political power.

@@user-mp5nt4nd3n if you concede that some people will positively benefit from the display of the ten commandments then that is enough. Nothing else matters. You don't stop espousing goodness because others may twist it towards evil.

@waakow I agree that it would be wonderful if seeing those Commandments led people to repentance or to inquire about them. I also think it would be wonderfully ironic if a political ploy had unexpected benefits. My concern is more about the motive.
