When I was a 22 year old punk rocker in the late 80s, I dated a really cool girl with a huge music collection. Her taste was diverse. I laughed at the fact she had Patsy Cline in her collection. Then she asked if I ever actually listen listened to her. Fuck no, said I. She forced me to listen, and I was hooked immediately. She not only opened my eyes to Patsy, but a whole array of music I snobbishly dismissed. I'm eternally grateful.

I've always loved her recording of an old standard that she made her own, Faded Love, and at the end of the song you hear her inhale, she apparently cried through the recording and was emotional and it just came through her voice so magically.

It is so nice to see the younger generation keeping her music alive. I am close family to Patsy and know the real story of her life. She was such a beautiful person she was a beer-drinking hell-raising country girl who grew up hard, as I did as well, she had a heart of GOLD. The first lady of country music will live on in my heart and I hope the heart of you guys as well. Thanks so much for this reaction, keep up the great work.

If you truly are close family to Patsy: you will never have to worry about her legacy dying out. She has, and will continue to, affect and reach and touch so many people through her music that generations to come will be humming her tunes while making memories they’ll never forget. Gone far too soon, but i try to take solace in that. The fact that she truly is immortalized; in such a beautiful way.

An artist you guys should check out is k.d. Lang. The reason she became interested in singing was because of Patsy Cline. Her band in the beginning of her career was known as The Reclines. She has a lot of great songs. Constant Craving was her biggest hit. Big Boned Gal was my personal favorite with The Reclines. She does a fantastic cover of Hallelujah - there are two live performances on line that blow will blow you away. Also her duet with Roy Orbison (another artist from the late 50’s, early 60’s that should listened to) on his song called Crying. If you love Patsy, you’ll love k.d. too. Also, another suggestion since you guys seem to love the 60s, is the girl groups of the 60’s like The Supremes, The Ronettes, and The Shirelles to name a few.

KD also covered Pasty's Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray. She also worked with Owen Bradley Pasty's producer for her 1988 album Shadowland (her solo debut). It was her breakout into the US Market. Her performance of Cohen's Hallelujah at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver is tops, and her performance of Crying at the Roy Orbison Tribute shortly after his passing is also awesome. Both of those songs are actually her biggest hits, on the charts, both #2 in Canada. Constant Craving was her only top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and she did win the her 3rd Grammy, for Best Pop Female Vocal Performance for the song.

When Pasty died in March of 1963 she had the song Leaving on Your Mind on the charts. After that songs run, they released Sweet Dreams and Faded Love both top 10 country hits. Pasty who was a perfectionist and was never really satisfied with her recordings on playback, she was (however) satisfied with Faded Love and thrilled with the catch in her voice, at the songs end when finishing the final chorus. Both of these songs are must listens. Walking After Midnight is from 1957 and was her first crossover hit (on the Pop charts). Crazy which you already reacted to, was her biggest cross over hit, reaching #9 on the pop charts in early 1962. Fun fact it was also the most played song of all-time on the juke box. Pasty as you already have discovered had one of those voices, with emotion and mastery to put a punch into a song. She has also recording some of the standards and made them her own. You Made Me Love You - a song which everyone has recorded; was completely made her own. You can listen to it all day, and no one quite does it like Pasty. She was magic for country music, and it's songwriters, there is a quote I will have to find for you and post it. I want to get it exact. You have listened to 2 of her very best recordings of which there are many. When you get the chance to dive into her more, I would suggest listening to Just Out of Reach and Why Can't He Be You.

I'm no great fan of country music overall, but as a kid in the 70's/80's in Louisiana, voices like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton were the world of music my family was immersed in, so my early years are full of 'family concerts' singing "Coal Miner's Daughter" or "Rocky Top" in a Winnebago in campgrounds across the South. The women of old country were BOSSES. It makes me happy to see people discovering them again--formidable voices, all.

A great classic to be sure. While Patsy Cline died over 60 years ago, two of my favorite Country Ladies ever died just recently and less then 2 full years apart. Both of Cancer. Holly Dunn in November of 2016 at the age of 59 and Lari White at the age of just 52 in January of 2018. You will be hard pressed to find two better voices in the last 35 plus years then those two. Holly and Lari's songs are woefully under reacted too, and I'm desperately trying to change that. Give a listen to Holly's haunting "Why Wyoming, the harrowing "When No Place Is Home", and the moving "Just Across The Rio Grande" or "No One Takes The Train Anymore" for Starters. In the video to "Strangers Again" from 1987 Holly apparently plays Patsy Cline. With Lari you could start with her duet she Co-wrote with Travis Tritt from 1997 called "Helping Me Get Over You". She has two other amazing duets called "Another Broken Heart" with Esera Tuaolo a former Football player, and a powerhouse ballad with Toby Keith called "Only God Could Stop Me Loving You". Holly and Lari both deserve allot more attention on these reaction channels then they have gotten so far. They were both phenomenal singers, musicians and song writers. Neither got the recognition they justly deserved in life, although both had Gold Albums, Holly had 4 Number 1 songs and was nominated for 3 Grammy's. Lari had a Gold Album, and actually won 3 Grammy Awards. All of their albums were good enough that they could have been Multi-Platinum sellers. Incidentally, Both Holly and Lari had versions of "Walking After Midnight that they performed in their live shows in honor of Patsy Cline.

Country Yodeling is a thing I highly highly recommend you check out LeAnn Rimes singing Blue. She was 14 years old when she had a hit with this song and was inducted 8nto Membership I. The Grand Ole Opry. She just recently won The m Masked Singer.! The yodel was a big thing in country music back in the old days when it was mostly radio genre. There are many great country singers who sang with a yodel in their voice.

Blue was actually written for Patsy Cline. One the Nashville record executives that discovered Leann said they actually sat on the song until they found a voice worthy of the song.

If you ever get the chance to see the video of LeAnn singing a medley of Patsy Cline hits at the ACAs in 2013, its emotional, . It was the 50th anniversary of the plane crash, Patsy was in. LeAnn was 30, the same age Patsy was when she passed. As it has been said, LeAnn has been compared to Patsy vocally, since she was 12. Her first hit "Blue" was written for Patsy, but never given to anyone until LeAnn.

'Sweet Dreams', 'San Antonio Rose' , ' Heartaches', 'Lovesick Blues', 'Three Cigarettes In The Ashtray' very short but showing her upbeat side is 'Come On In' are some more of Patsy's great songs. Patsy died aged just 30 in a light plane crash in bad weather flying home after a memorial concert for a dj who had been killed in a car crash. She was only 90 miles from the airport. Her death was announced at the Grand Ole Opry by Jim Reeves who would also die in a plane crash the following year. Check out Jim 'Welcome To My World', 'Four Walls', 'I won't Forget You', 'Distant Drums' .

Hey Guys, it's your old fan David. I love you both, I love Patsy Cline to. One of my favorites is her "You're stronger than me". When I was 14 I had tickets to see her in Louisville, Ky. She was killed in a Plane crash before her appearance there. There was a benefit show, there we several " Stars" of the time, but none could take her place. I'm 78 now and still loving her music

I too am a Patsy Cline fan and I noticed that y'all reacted to Crazy (Willie Nelson song) and her first ever number one song Walkin' After Midnight, but for me and maybe some other Patsy Cline fans the best song out there is Sweet Dreams. I get goosebumps every time I hear the introduction. Also if y'all get the chance try listening to Keith Whitley. Especially Don't Close Your Eyes or When You Say Nothing At All.

Amber, Patsy's first HUGE crossover (to pop) hit was I Fall to Pieces. The story goes, she struggled with the first couple of takes, but then she hit a magic take, and the guys in the studio all ended up crying at her passionate and powerful vocal. My personal favorite Cline song is You Belong to Me. She's Got You is also a great tear-jerker.

Point of fact - this song was actually released in 1957. Patsy was 25 at the time. Sadly, she died at age 30 in a plane crash on March 5, 1963. (Just over four years after another plane crash claimed the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper.)
