I was swept up and mesmerized watching you watch the video and in it my childhood... Meatloaf was a great singer and performer and Jim Steinman a great writer, together they wrote and performed some of the most iconic songs of their time. Meatloaf said upon the Death of Jim "We didn't know each other, we were each other." which was eerily prophetic and sadly they passed just 9 months apart...

This was a song from the album Bat out of Hell II. There were almost 20 years between bat 1 and bat 2, during that time Meatloaf had actually blew out his voice, almost to the point where he couldn't talk. he spent 20 years learning how to sing again, so his voice is deeper and more powerful and he learned to control it better so he didn't hurt himself again. and as for the mysterious "that" he explains what it is in the song if you listen. "Sooner or later you'll be screwing around" "no i won't do that"

I became a subscriber from this video. I absolutely love your honest and open reaction(s) to the music you review. You're very animated and I love that you don't hold back and you don't hide anything. It takes a lot out of you and it means you wear your emotions on your sleeve and that you feel deeply. Don't lose that. This is such an awesome song and one of my all time favs. When he gets redeemed by her love seeing through his physical damage and deformity and is ultimately saved by her, always elicits tears from me. Without consciously realizing it, I simply had tears falling. This is one of the ultimate love songs and the imagery goes so incredibly well with the music. The acting and portrayal of the emotions is such wonderful storytelling. There are times you hope that someone can see through the shell, see the inner self and not be repulsed by it, to be able to look past the damage and to still love them, is one of the strongest messages. Because she loved him, he would never cheat on her, leave her, forsake her, he would not do that. He would love her and do anything for her, and will always feel like it is never enough, that he can never repay her for the kindness she shows to him. Thus, the ultimate love song. Loved your reaction to this and keep up the great work. You got a new fan today.

This is such a beautiful and sad song. It's a dialogue between the singer and his love who has died. The beast persona he takes on in the video is representative of his grief. The tragedy of the song is when he says, " I won't do that", he is saying that he'll never move on and never love again.

There was a Dracula movie with Gary Oldman and Keanu Reeves. Something running through the plot is that Dracula falls because his wife dives off the castle wall....fatally. Damn, what a time travel experience. I grew up listening to this a lot as a kid. It was just there, like so many other classics from that time. And now I get goosebumps all over hearing it again with you! RIP Meat Loaf!

This was my fav artist from his first album (I'm old lol) in 1977 as a sophomore in high school to his very last breath and I miss his special way of drama that made every song a journey. Great channel!!

The female lead voice dubbed here, is from Lorraine Crosby, from the UK. The story goes that when the song was recorded, the lady who was supposed to contribute her voice failed to show up for whatever reason, and they were desperate to find someone who'd be prepared to stand in for her, and they found Lorraine who was recording her own stuff in another studio, so they asked her and thank God she agreed. She has an incredible voice and she had a major input to this amazing video.

Jim Steinman is the songwriting genius behind many of the Meat Loaf albums, namely Bat Out Of Hell (1977), Dead Ringer (1981), Bat Out Of Hell II : Back Into Hell (1993), Bat Out Of Hell II : The Monster Is Loose (2006), and Braver Than We Are (2016). All other albums are a hodgepodge of talented songwriters, with the occasional track or two from Steinman, and even Meat himself accrued some (co-)writing credits on the 2010 album Hang Cool Teddy Bear. Before Dead Ringer, meat Loaf endured some challenges and difficulties that result ed in him losing his voice, and Steinman was left to deliver an album for the label, and elected to put out the intended material as a solo album, Bad For Good. That was April of 1981, and by September of that same year, Dead Ringer was released with Meat back in action, better than ever. The fun thing, is that BFG and DR have similar production quality and could be considered 2 parts of a whole. Also, many songs for Jim's BFG album resurfaced in new recordings on future Meat Loaf albums over the years. Here's the discography so you know what you;re diving into : 1977 - BAT OUT OF HELL (all songs by Steinman) 1981 - BAD FOR GOOD (Jim Steinman solo album, all songs by Steinman) 1981 - DEAD RINGER (all songs by Steinman) 1983 - MIDNIGHT AT THE LOST & FOUND 1984 - BAD ATTITUDE (2 songs by Steinman) 1986 - BLIND BEFORE I STOP 1993 - BAT OUT OF HELL II : BACK INTO HELL (all songs by Steinman) 1995 - WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD (2 songs by Steinman) 1998 - LIVE AROUND THE WORLD 1996/1997 2003 - COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER (3 songs by Steinman) 2006 - BAT OUT OF HELL III : THE MONSTER IS LOOSE (most songs by Steinman) 2010 - HANG COOL TEDDY BEAR 2011 - HELL IN A HANDBASKET 2016 - BRAVER THAN WE ARE (most songs by Steinman)

Oh Aileen, if you like musical theatre, you're going to LOVE Meatloaf. He started off in theatre before going into rock music and his sense of drama (both on stage and off) is legendary. The late Jim Steinman, who wrote all Meatloaf's music, was a fantasic songwriter. There is SO much content in the lyrics: they're like little novels full of clever imagery, call-backs and wordplay. You really can't go wrong with anything he did, but Bat Out Of Hell is a must, as is Paradise By The Dashboard Light. The latter is also bloody funny, being a cynical take on "fairy-tale" romance.
