When we traveled to Phoenix for Kat's post-cancer check-up we sure didn't expect to encounter something like this. Special appearances by ‪@KatandDogsonWheels‬ and ‪@bradjustbrad‬. And of course Steve, who doesn't have his own channel but shows up from time to time on this one: @atadventures2336 . Why I'm not posting much now: / @maxminitv
Stories of life on the road in a converted bus RV (skoolie), with a full-time senior nomad who doesn’t act her age. I’m Mary, my dog is Rider, and the bus is Max. I live in AZ. My sister’s little dog was recently taken by a coyote. Coyotes are not impressed by leashes, they’ve mostly lost fear of people, and you don’t hear a single thing until it’s too late. I got a Coyote Vest for our dog and now my friends have them too. The vests also protect from the talons of large predator birds. They’re made of Kevlar and have rows of spikes and collars that cover the neck, which is the target for coyotes. The vests are also good if you’re at a campground where people don’t have their large dogs on leashes. They’re not a guarantee of safety in prolonged encounters, but they do buy you the time you need to deal with the issue. My dog wasn’t a fan at first but now she loves it because she associates it with going outside.
@MaxMiniTV
@MaxMiniTV 5 күн бұрын
I was going to get one of those vests but I read that the spikes come off very easily. My dog was grabbed in LA while on leash, but I turned and yelled at the coyote, who immediately put him down and backed up. I feel very lucky! I’m glad to hear your best is working out; maybe I’ll look into it again.

I live in the desert near Joshua Tree and one morning I let her out and was chasing something and said oh she just chasing a rabbit. No she was chasing a Bobcat up my pine tree and was big. That Bobcat stay in the that pine tree for an hour. She had no idea what she was chasing. She was a 90 lb pit bull the Bobcat was about 60 lbs. Thank God Cat is cancer free ❤ I've been cancer free 9 yrs now.

That’s one of the things I read about when I started looking into bobcats: typically they will run up a tree, if chased by a dog. Sometimes even a small dog though I wouldn’t take that kind of a chance. Congrats on being cancer free! That’s fantastic!

We use to live in a forest area but our backyard was a big meadow. We saw bunnies almost every evening during the summer and one evening I saw a bobcat lying close to the yard watching for the bunnies. I called my family to the window and they saw it too. We were very careful letting our dog out .

Wildest animal story...when I was a kid we camped at Yosemite. In the middle of the night we woke up to a couple of little bears in our camp tearing up our coolers (yeah, we didn't practice safe food storage). My dad thought it would be cool to "bark" at them and scare them away. He failed to notice Mama Bear eating out of a trash can nearby...until she stood up, and up, and up. Thankfully, she gathered her cubs and left, but it could have been a much scarier outcome.

I remember that day you guys went to Phoenix and Kat text me the news. I cried too...I think it was a release of emotion. I've seen a black panther right down the road from where I grew up. Of course that was in the late seventies. One of the prettiest things I've seen is a family of mountain goats. My last husband and I i had borrowed a boat and we were right down from Roosevelt Dam about a mile from our house, just floating along and right around a bend there they were. Dad, Mom, and two babies. I was just amazed because they were on the side of a cliff that looked totally flat like s wall.

He looked very healthy. Well done getting a photo! When I lived in the mtns of Colorado- we would occasionally see Bob cats but only in the winter when there weren’t too many people. I swear I thought that was a mountain lion. It looked chunky. 😁 I agree it was probably stalking the dogs, likely the smaller one, then realized with the bigger dog and the big humans, the pup wasn't worth it. We have small coyote packs behind our house in the riverbed that hunt cats and small dogs. No issue with small kids. I don't know if you've been to places where birds of prey are an issue but they will take away a small dog or cat with no issue. When I would take my corgi on walks or camping I would put a spike collar on her just in case. Glad to hear ur friend is ok now. ✌

I lived in Colorado and New Mexico and seen Coyotes and Bob Cats in both places. They become used to people and will come up on a porch and take a dog or cat right off. They also will come into carports and take food and pets. Don't trust either of them. Also watch out for Owls. They love cats but a small dog is also a good snack. You don't want to know why I know that.
@MaxMiniTV
@MaxMiniTV Күн бұрын
You’re right, I don’t want to know, but I can only imagine! You’re absolutely right that they get used to people. When I lived in LA, some of my neighbors, thought it was cute to feed the coyotes, until they came home and found him sleeping on their porches. One coyote went into a dog door and took a sleeping dog off of a bed right in front of their person. And yeah, I’ve had owl experiences too, In the suburbs of LA at 4 AM when I had my dog, Cowboy. I think the really important thing is to never get complacent. You have to always be vigilant when they’re wild animals around. Thanks for the reminder!

Yes, we have deer, snakes, foxes, coyotes, bears and wildcats go through our yard and neighborhood. I have four dogs under 15 pounds and leash walk them because we also had hawk and eagles that will pick up my dogs for dinner. Yes it’s your choice to do that but but I’ve heard horror stories of them taking off with them. I would be so heartbroken and blame myself.
@MaxMiniTV
@MaxMiniTV 6 күн бұрын
My dog Captain was dive bombed by a hawk and an owl on two separate occasions, once in the city and once in the wild. I had to jump on top of him to save him! Another dog, Indy, was grabbed by a coyote while I was walking him ON LEASH in downtown Los Angeles. My feeling is, I would be heartbroken if something happened to Rider, but I know I would hate it if someone prevented me from doing things I loved because there was a bit of risk involved. So I try to balance things by doing as much research as I can on how to avoid problems without completely restricting him from having a good time. I do understand though why someone would make a different choice.

We camped there for a few months earlier in the year, and I know I saw a bobcat one night but didn’t know what I’d seen. It ran across the road as I was pulling in. We also saw gigantic coyotes there, pretty bold ones. I actually worry more about rattlesnakes. They’re not predatory but they’re harder to see and they don’t care if a dog is big or small.

Great to see you today. You know I needed tissues and a deep hearth concerning Kat. About time with the up date on the bus 😆. Oh my Rider and RJ are the best. Scariest critters here are coyotes. I stopped walking at night up the back of the property because I saw eyes watching Bitzy and me. I think they were trying to figure out if Bitzy was a skunk. 🦨 other scary critter and it looks a bit harmless is a Fisher. We have Turkey vultures. Big creepy critter. The rat dead things. Assorted hawks and owls. So leaving Bitzy out unattended wasn’t a good idea. I am too much of a mother hen to let her go free. We often walked with the pack from the doggie day care and they were all off leash. Enjoy the Summer. Scratches for the pups and hugs to you and Kat 🩵 Where are y’all now???

I have seen a bobcat outside of Blanco New Mexico. We ran after it it disappeared and I know it was somewhere very close hiding under a brush but we could not find it. they are very stealth. Been one time I was driving through Colorado on a two-lane road in the mountains and there was mulane on the side of the road and I thought oh well I'll pick some so in a curve with zero traffic I parked on the right hand side and walked across the two lane to go up the little hill to pick some away from the road. I heard this horrendous screech and I knew it was a big cat and it was close! Scared me to death I backed up the whole way quick did not turn my back got my car and drove away fast. Scariest time I've had alone

Within an estimated 10 mile radius of my house I've seen one bobcat, one mountain lion, and multiple black bears. I've lived here almost 25 years, so I'm not sure if I will ever see another bobcat or mountain lion. Pretty sure I'll see another bear. :)

@@MaxMiniTV I live in upstate NY where NY, MA, and CT meet. I saw the bobcat on a rainy misty early morning on my way to work. One time a young man was lost all night near a hiking trail and searchers and a helicopter were trying to find him. I was on my way to work and one of the roads I travel skirts the mountain where the young man was lost. I came around a curve and there was the mountain lion slinking across the road, looking back over his shoulder toward the search area. I think they scared him out and that is the only reason I was able to see him. Felt like a once in a lifetime moment. :)

I haven’t seen a bobcat, but a cougar once ran across the road right in front of me - in Lunenburg, Massachusetts! People say they’re extinct in New England and that it couldn’t possibly have been a cougar. But I know what I saw. Closely, as I slammed on the brakes to not hit it! That was no bobcat.

Wow, I’m hearing from a few of the New England peeps that they’ve seen them. I never did when I was there. I remember one morning walk and Captain A fox was watching us, and five minutes later and entire herd of deer ran right across the middle of the suburban road. I guess it makes sense; most of that area was woods when I was a kid.

I'm Happy to hear about her being cancer free. We have Bobcats all over here we are in Cottonwood/Clarkdale/Jerome, AZ area. We had Mom and her babies three babies. One was on our fence. So cute. She was rounding them up. They were right between US HWY 89A in a residential area. We see it all in this area. Are you ready to hear, I do Bigfoot research. Seen my first Bigfoot when I was around five in CA. experienced another when I was ten in AR. Then had another experience in CA in the 80s. Then had more when I joined a well known Bigfoot group in 2001 in Oregon. Now in AZ, yes they are here. We use to feed them. They love PB&J sandwiches. They love Strawberry Jam. There are many types. So far seen with my eyes two types. AZ has a different looking type then Oregon. And so far only seen them after taking a picture and seeing them in it too.
