So the way the line is drawn in this frame, the last part of the defender (the toe) is in line with the last part of the first attacker (the knee), therefore the first Uruguayan player is onside. The Uruguayan player on the top is offside, however, he does not impact the play at all, therefore that cannot be called as offside. He does not go anywhere near the ball, does not obstruct the keeper or the keeper's vision, nor does he obstruct any defender that may impact the play. So if you look at the decision from this specific frame, then it is the correct call. However, I don't think the refs used the correct frame. Offside happens at the moment the ball leaves the touch of the passer (in this case the moment the ball is no longer in contact with the head of the Uruguayan). I believe there are one or two more frames after this one in which the ball is stil in contact with the Uruguayan player but the scoring Uruguayan player would have been offside had those frames been used so from this perspective I believe it was the wrong call.

The guy offside was not part of the play so you can eliminate him. The other player was the one who scored and appears to be in line with the US player. It was not a clear offside like everyone is suggesting. Good call imo.

This screenshot says nothing about the play... Its just a screenshot where the guy in the back is offside.. but i dont know where the ball is going and if that guy interfered that play... He was never in the line of side for the goalkeeper so thats not the reason he could been offside.. i have to go search on yt for the whole action(goal) i thought i would have found a video when i clcked yours, but its just clickbait i guess

If the man up top interferes with the play in any way (he doesn't necessarily have to touch the ball) then he is offside for sure, now if he doesn't interfere then it is a legal goal.

Hes clearly in back of the line, the tip of the USA'S defenders foot is what made him be onside. Now the Uruguayan player to the left of the pitch is offside but he never interferes with the play.

Instead of assuming it is offside or not why the US will not invest on the most advance VAR technology you can buy. That camera and that angle is way too subjective to be use. You can be correct in this Frame but what about the frame use in Europe and the EPL it can look a whole different angle and it’s probably more on side than you think

It's not off side. It only looks that way because your angle gives the illusion to of it being offside. In today age of VAR it is very hard to make a wrong call

The line for the Uruguay player is drawn wrong. The line is drawn on the feet when it should be where the knee is sticking out. That looks offside to me.

The only player that could be offside, does not score, and does not participate directly in the goal, plus, technically, the goalie is passing the ball to the forward Uruguay player (with his amateur push of the ball) the one that most definitely is NOT, offside giving him full permission to score. No, if its on the same line it is legal, Off-Side is over that line, an inch over that line would be Off, but this case the attacker is on that line not off, so its still legal.

The player you are pointing to at the top of the screen is not who scored the goal. The second Uruguayan player on the line is not offside.

So many terrible calls in this game. Calls that don’t even make football sense. This guy has a history on corruption & receiving gifts from teams who then received soft PK calls in the future, they knew this & still let him ref. He also refused to shake Pulisics hand.

Regardless of what your opinion is, we were in this position because Weah decided to betray his own team by getting himself expulsed in that game with Panama and letting his team lose. As coach I would ban him from playing until my contract expires because nobody who has faith in American Football ⚽️ would do that to their team. there is no way you can take an image like this and tell without any reasonable doubt that this is the moment the ball was touched. Then you have to add the error in the position of the line which it's not granted that is at the tip of McKennie's toe and indeed it seems to be a bit too much ON the foot, with some part of the boot that seems to be in the space between the two lines. Then the 3D bodies are projected on the 2D surface of the TV image which makes it extremely difficult to define their real position in space as they run on a diagonal path. There are simply too many variables and for sure the lack of a precise timestamp with the ball being played isn't helping. It takes 1cs of time and Olivera's knee is not past the line. It's an extremely complicated decision to make and honestly I don't think anyone can really say it was 100% onside/offside.
