There is a good opening missing. It is the first opening that has Japanese themes involved and is called "Over The Top" It kinda sets the tone of the arc itself. Though you guys should see the current one, it's fantastic

In reference to the Shen-Ron vibe you got from the on screen dragonoid creature you saw there, I'm guessing something along the lines went on in Oda's head at the time, "🤔What would it be like to fight Shen-Ron lol but from Luffy's POV?" 🤣. Don't take me seriously but you were spot on on this one, if you haven't already noticed by now, the author takes inspiration from damn near every cartoon/animation style in existence and enters them into a world that somehow accomodates this kind of thing but there's some shit about Luffy, Zoro, Law, Kidd etc. that even in this freaky world they are considered freaks lol.

i don't recommend watching One Pace, even for a refresher. the edits make it less padded with filler, bit it also cuts down important moments that were supposed to be slow and taken in. it just doesn't hit the same compared to the more purposeful pacing of the original cut

The alternate version of Opening 1 had the main VA cast sing the song. It was for some milestone of sorts. Btw, you can just skip filler that isn't the G8 arc(which is the only good filler) if you like, but once you get to the part where Franky becomes a bigger, blockier guy on the crew, you might wanna consider ising One Pace then. But only if you mind the pacing of the show getting to where its less than or equal to one chapter per episode(the appropriate standard for anime pacing is 2 manga chapters per single episode).

When it comes to One Pace (which basically reduces the anime to the panels in the manga), I'd argue that it is some arcs it is definitely beneficial on, but that one shouldn't underestimate the effect a director has on a production. Yes, later arcs suffer immensely under horrible pacing and even horrible management for a period of time, but that does not mean the whole production is crap. The anime excels more than anything else in building up the mood and making the emotional moments from the original material hit even harder. You will watch this series and find yourself crying over things you would never have expected to cry about: it is just a matter of letting the story build up to those moments. As much as One Piece has nice fights, it is perhaps the worst part of the series as a whole. Mind you: that does not mean it is bad, but just that it is not remotely the focus nor what the mangaka is talented at if you compare it to dedicated battle manga. One Piece is about the friends made along the way, and about the story experienced which manages to build in scale. (Without outright making the earlier story irrelevant because it didn't account for the bazillion power tiers that showed up later in the series, anyway.) It is above all one huge cohesive universe with amazing characters that, if you were to take it outside of its genre as a manga/anime production, could easily stand toe to toe with the epic worlds and works that one can find in the Game of Thrones and Lord of the Ring. My advice to anyone is to just start out with the regular anime and just leave One Pace for when you really start to get frustrated with the pacing. One Piece is not a sprint. It's not a race either. It is a marathon. And you ought to enjoy it at your own pace without feeling beholden to being on par with the rest of the world with the freedom to take a break for a while whenever you desire to. No story is fun once you start to force yourself to read it!

I just finished reading the latest chapters and let go a flood of tears and another bout of worship to Oda for his masterpiece writing. I know people will recommend watching One Pace to push through the series, but trust me when I say people tend to regret it. It cuts out a few important context scenes as well. One Pace is only good for rewatching and not for first timers. Take your time and I hope you enjoy your journey

One Pace cut out basically every piece of filler, including the extended fight scenes. The non filler arc episodes are also cut down to only include scenes from the manga.
