I think so too. The year of plenty she's seen more with her babies. It could be that the aunts know this and take advantage of it. Knowing Gypsy has to forage in a different way by foraging in the woods and "steal" what she can from those who's sporadically feeding them like visitors to Hong Kong. They know she'll keep away for longer time if they can get a hold of Gypsy's baby. Rhesus macaques are not stupid. 🤓🏴‍☠️🇸🇪

@Koisneurotypical Gypsy has not once handed her baby off but rather Rudy keet taking him because she is higher ranking and sterilized. Gypsy did not want a babysitter nor was she asked properly. She’s gotten a bad name but it’s not her choice. I’ve always wondered about this but it was never so clear until Kody was born that this has been happening.

I don't know specifically about these macaques but a friend spent time overseas and says that those monkeys do not have a pleasant smell.

Kinda like not wanting to get attached to one that will be claimed by another female? I could see that but also female offspring will not be forced out like the males so giving them more feedings and taking more time to teach them independence is another factor in my opinion

It's easier for Gypsy to keep an eye on her baby during those years of plenty. Rudy has taken advantage of this the years she knows Gypsy has to forage away from the troop a bit more. She tried this year too but hasn't been so successful so now she's also following other mothers with babies. I feel sorry for Rudy. Gypsy isn't impaired only lowest ranking. 🤓🏴‍☠️🇸🇪

Nice catch, I didn't notice that and now you've got me curious about it too! I noticed Bossy next to her wasn't wagging her tail so my guess would be this particular monkey wagged her tail out of general excitement during the altercation, kind of like when people gesture a lot when they are having a heightened emotional response (excited, angry, surprised). Purely a guess though. I'm about to reply to someone else who's watched this channel a really long time and I'll ask her about it, and if I find out anything I'll come back and let you know. The only thing I know about tail behavior is that the alpha male will walk around with his tail up. I think it's a sign of his status/dominance (not sure where I learned this, maybe Arroz mentioned it or someone in the comments?). I learned that awhile ago and I seem to remember seeing another non-alpha male not too long afterwards with his tail up. It might've been Dopey or another juvenile and I don't think it was as completely straight up like the alpha's was. Anyway I remember thinking maybe it was a sign of confidence, something like that. Sorry for all the wishy-washiness, I'm not 100% sure about all this. Guess I should stop talking about it then, hahaha! I just love discussing and learning about these monkeys and especially what their behavior means. 🐒🐒🐒

It's after midnight here in TX and I think she's on east coast time but she's sometimes up at odd hours like me (and you!) too. I have a friend named Gypsy and she had a witch shop here called gypsies and she's not offended by the name at all. She says tge only reason she thinks its offensive to some people is people think of trashy women.

Kneely is a girl and she took good care of her. Knotty is a boy and she spent less time and was less dotting on him. I don't think it has to do with what sex the baby has I think one part is the access of food during and after birthing season and the other part is Rudy. 🤓🏴‍☠️🇸🇪
