That is Bill Evans on piano; he was the master of close chords and unusual intervals. He sometime used the Lydian mode. Miles Davis was of the opinion that the Lydian mode was more natural to jazz than our standard diatonic scale.

Wow, that bass it amazing. I've spun the LP a million times on less powerful systems, but this turntable and cartridge are on a higher plane. It's quite astonishing to hear the spaciousness of the drums, the mass of the trumpet tone. Thanks for sharing. I'd love to hear more if possible.

+daniel thomas Wow thank you! I really appreciate it. This is my friend's awesome system and we are going to definitely keep shooting videos there as soon as he gets his Magneplanar speaker back from service so keep it tuned to this station! Actually did you see my excerpt of the new MFSL 45rpm/2LP Kind of Blue? The new reissue is OUT OF THIS WORLD and it may just beat out this rare Classic Records Clarity Vinyl edition! In fact we've already talked about having a triple shootout of the Classic Clarity Vinyl, the new MOFI, and a dub of KOB on reel to reel 15ips! This will be a compare of epic proportions and yours truly will capture it all to share here! :) Oh and in the meantime see if you like the way my new (short) video sounds here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aN6ce7l1167bmok.html Enjoy! Oops the latest one have just finished uploading. It is a yummy track done from a R2R tape of Sonny Rollins' Saxophone Colossus - St. Thomas (Mono). This is the best rendition of this song I've ever heard. The texture and reverberation of the bass strings is remarkable, as is the spacious shimmer of the drummer's cymbals. There is a sweetness and clarity that is a step above anything else. Yes, that's a $5K cartridge. But it does appear that you do get what you pay for. Of course, if you have that kind of money, you could probably just afford to pay a jazz band to play at your house, hah. That said, thanks for the video, it's very enlightening and fun to hear.

Of all the versions of this album in my collection, the original sounds the best. It just seems to have the most articulated bass. I love Cannonball Adderley's first solo on the first cut. He inspires Miles and Coltrane, who up to the point of Adderley's solo, just played like "another day in the studio." After Adderley's first solo on the album, everyone just kicked butt making this one of the best jazz seller of all time. Thanks for sharing ..

Nakamichi used to make very expensive turntable that actually compensated for off centre records using some sophisticated concentric electronic servo thing. You can also do it manually by grinding the centre hole into an elipse, then reposition and eyeball the record as it rotates. Not machine perfect but it works.

I may do another track off a different pressing of Kind of Blue however. Let's not penalize Miles just because this particular pressing was pressed off center and people were bugging out on it. Right?

Awe that'd very kind of you. I too agree. This doesn't sound nearly as foul as some here state. Also, I believe some of the noises heard are being confused by high level of hiss in the master tape, the spit on mouthpieces of the instruments, and the brush work. Many have not heard these "extraneous" noises before and confuse them as cartridge mistracking or distortion. Let me know how your copy sounds.

@@LetThereBeSound1 sorry for the delayed reply. But yeah, mine sounds terrific to my ears. A quick rundown on the gear: Technics SL-1200-MK2 turntable; Reisong A-10 vacuum tube amp; Klipsch RP 600M speakers. Not the best or highest fidelity system designed by man I grant one, but it ain’t bad. The scratching sound I hear are the brushes and cymbal taps. So I have no idea what some of the other posters are complaining about. Cheers!

@@LetThereBeSound1 And I'd hasten to encourage the word "different", rather than "better", as it allows the listener to make their own decision. For people who have an incredibly trained ear and an incredibly revealing computer audio system, there may be a slight discernible difference that can point to one product vs. the other, while for 99.99% of the others, it's really subjective, at best. There's enough "snake oil" and witchcraft blamed on audiophilia as it is... I always admire people who really love and appreciate sound acknowledging this up front so the trolls aren't emboldened. Your response was greatly appreciated and very genuine, IMHO!

Thank you for the support, I am currently looking at either the Debut Carbon or the Audio Technica AT-LP120 as a starter system paired with a Schiit Audio Mani Phono Preamp to my Yamaha RX-V475 then to the Polk Audio Speakers. I want to upgrade the speakers to the EMP Tek R5Bi in Rosewood. I have heard nothing but praise for the AT-LP120, but like the look of the Carbon. Maybe look on Ebay first at a vintage unit. We shall see as the budget is slim at this moment.

I'm still in awe that a rim drive can sound this good vs belt drive. Maybe why the lenco has such a following though they can't be as sophisticated as the vpi. I have the standard scoutmaster version of your table with center clamp and periphery ring and just love it.

Its platform shows this record without much impulse of the bass compared to others I've heard on youtube. I believe that we hear too much bass and end up losing details. Therefore, as this turntable is sophisticated, I believe that this sound is as pure as possible from the source, and therefore, I must detoxify myself from the excesses of bass. Thank you.

Thank you! Where are you at now? Incidentally whenever you're on the market please check with me as I usually have turntables available which were trade-ins from when my clients upgrade. Or I can help you move into a new one. I only make the suggestion if you don't have a local high end shop you're already working with - because if you do, please support them!

Heh, I didn't even know classic pressed this as a clarity title. Make that one more incarnation of this album as released by classic, must be up to 2 dozen at this point… I lost count

I'm sure it's the angle but the azimuth looks slightly off. Beautiful ❤️ table and setup👍

Thank you. Yes I can assure you it’s an optical illusion. This cart is very angular.

Thanks for posting. Sounds great. That distortion from the spit in the horn in the right channel at the beginning has always bothered me, but is soon forgotten every time.

This digital reproduction of your analog source sounds fine on my system Some will have lower or higher quality reproduction than I . Perfection is unattainable . For free this is good .

Hey thanks. Not a horrible effort considering how long ago this was. I have improved the way I do my captures. Case in point, check out this newer version of the same song (different system and pressing though) on my channel and tell me what you think: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rNCjiKp42dKdp2Q.html All my best, Oz
