I messed around with that damn' scale in major and minor for such a long time but now I see how restricted it was. Kinda revelation. Thank you so much for sharing. Like someone else said: this is a goldmine :)

Really useful harmonic analysis of this scale which I always think of as pentatonic with a chromatic addition. Great book by the way ideal for anyone like me who wants to understand jazz piano in some depth.

Yes, pentatonic with added flat 3,5, and/or 7th.

So basically any progression to leads other the major/minor tonic of that blues or the III,V, VI chord ?

Hi Jeremy, I bought you book but I am sad for not finding topics about pure improvisation and some relative tips. In the book I found only techniques on comping a melody in various style. Can you advice me some book for improving my Jazz vocabulary?

Hi Antonio! Yeah - the "Playing Solo Jazz Piano" book deals a lot more with presenting a tune at the piano than improvising. I haven't personally written a book about improvising (maybe this summer!) and I've never taught or learned improvisation out of a book, so I might be the wrong person to ask. :( I'm sorry! Jamey Aebersold's vol. 1 provides a pretty good guide to getting started. Here's a link: amzn.to/3aPffXX

Check out Chad Lefkowitz-Brown’s materials. Phenomenal jazz language materials.

I found Bert Ligon’s book “Comprehensive Technique for Jazz Musicians” very helpful for this purpose. He has others as well I haven’t yet explored.

David Baker decades ago published several fantastic books on "Bebop for all instruments" that are full of vocabulary. 100 "public domain" well-known phrases for two-bar major chord, 100 for two-bar 2-5, 100 for 3-6-2-5, blues phrases using different scales, etc. etc. Then hundreds of tips for improvising, patterns, etc. Mark Levine's two books are the gold standard in jazz pedagogy - you can find everything in there.
