What a horse, if only he stayed in Aust he would have won 3 in a row, but he has only still a 2yr old when he won his first Cox Plate as he was a late foal , so for a 2yr old to lead all the way and kick away just proved how good he was and he was still a 3yr old when he won his 2nd Cox Plate not bad 10 starts for 2 Cox Plates and several other G1 WFA races, it broke Barts heart when Dato made a decision to take on the World with him, i know it was for his commercial value as a stallion winning G1 WFA races in both hemispheres but would have loved to seen him try and win a 3rd and I think he prob would off.

Would have won a third Cox Plate no problem. Was unbeatable over 2000 metres. I'd go as far to say it he hadn't run in The Melbourne Cup in 2010 and came back the following spring he would have won his third Cox Plate and then The Cup. He was a freak. Dato sold him...Didin't race in his colours after that. Bart was devastated.

Bart could have prepped him for a Melbourne Cup in his sleep.

I was at the second Cox plate in 2010 and i only went to watch him and a nice big horse having her 7th start by the name of Black Caviar earlier on the card in the Schweppes Stakes. Little did i know i was watching not one but two legends race on the same day

My only knock on So You Think, and it's actually not a knock on the horse, but on the two trainers he had during his career. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I never understood why Bart Cummings or Aidan O'Brien seemed so tenative and/or hesitant to race So You Think beyond 10F? Not that he wasn't great racing at 10F, but I truly believe he could've become murderers row racing at 12F while he was in Europe. Bart took a shot at making a stayer out of him and he ran a cracking good race at 2 miles in the Melbourne Cup and Aidan O'Brien took a shot at 12F with him in the Arc, and while I don't think Danedream was likely for catching that day at Longchamp, So You Think came from the very back of a jammed up, packed field and showed an incredible turn of foot to get home 4th of 16 in the Arc with little room to maneuver. He nosed out stablemate St Nicholas Abbey by a short neck for the 4th place spot in the Arc, and with another stride or two at most I believe would've slipped home ahead of Snow Fairy for 3rd place too, as she only held So You Think off by a neck for 3rd. Reminds me a little of the way Frankel was handled in that both had so much talent and ability, yet their trainers handled them with such kid gloves and were so hesitant about stepping on up in trip. I remember Frankel getting 10-1/2F standing on his head without even blowing hard at York when he won the Juddmonte International. In the process laying multiple G1 winners Farhh & St Nicholas Abbey to waste in a matter of 2 or 3 strides like flicking a fly off your shoulder. I believe So You Think could've and likely would've become a fantastic 12F horse had Aidan given him more opportunities, and there's no doubt in my mind Frankel would've gotten 12F also. He would've likely cruised through the first 10 or 11F effortlessly and then blown apart the field in the final furlong or two of a 12F race like he was a superior 5 or 6F sprinter.

If he’d stayed in Australia he would have won 4 Cox Plates. Couldn’t see him being beaten by Pinker Pinker or Ocean Park unless his jockey fell off.

@@rachelalexandra3052 He was a magnificent ambassador for Australia. There’s a lot of comment about O’Brien stuffing up his training but I don’t believe that’s the case The training was fine, in fact they adapted him well to European racing. But running him on dirt was a massive mistake and the ride in the Arc was diabolical

@@elgransenor1472 I think since O'Brien's team had St Nicolas Abbey as their representative on turf in that two race meetings in which SYT was also in, making them had no alternative choice but to race him on the unfamiliar dirt. You cannot had your own two top horses to play some sort of unbeneficial brother-against-brother confrontation. They probably should have had a better strategy to run SYT in the Arc though.
