Yes truly, but you can’t help but like as Moro geek and nerd. My last bike was a Ducati, my first an Aprillia so like Yammie Noob I cannot help but like flashy Italian stuff… heavens I have a wardrobe of Italian designer suits and cloths, yes and shoes. I have more than one suit that the starting price… well $18,000 would buy pretty much anything Ducati made the. Yes everyday I put on $700 Brioni shirts… but only old men chose Italian over French designers. So I am a sucker and nostalgic for Italian hand made stuff. I think the Scrambler line is the best Ducati has now… particularly with there beginnings. But it has only a contract signed on worthless paper and sharing of technical, perhaps outdated designs. We all know about doing deals with old Italian guys, like Enzo Ferrari literally bouncing Henry Ford to the curb and his 30 odd lawyers and accountants; yes Ferrari is still Italian. The Scrambler is made, designed, and bragged about by in that old territory the USA sole from España… in some sweaty jungle work shop… it’s still made with skill human hands, just not ever baptized with Italian blood and curses when Italian hands get cut by burrs and mashed by hammers putting even a real Ducati moped together!

Went from a big Multistrada Enduro to a Sled recently. OMG...back to real motorcycling! The sled works great on road and yes...it will go off-road as a trail rider. Anything more serious and you will need suspension mods. A Sled won the Hooligan Class at the Mint 400!

Just dont drop that sled! Fragile and expensive parts just cant take the normal dirt bike low speed get offs....check youtube duc sled ride videos and find the one where one little get off was going to be way overly expensive to repair....compare same type get off on a japanese or austrian dual sport/enduro which typically involves little or no damage ....heck I used to take my Vstrom offroading and dropped it several times and the worst that ever happened was a cracked turn signal once and another time I bent the REALLY fragile stock alumium footpeg....bikes at all touted for the dirt ought to be designed to fully survive most low speed get offs...if not then the engineering SUCKS IMHO (btw if anyone wants to keep stock long stalk turn signals in new condition? Simply replace them with cheap chinese LED short stalk blinkers...well you also have to swap signal relays if bike did not come stock with led blinkers....but that is nothing...then simply wrap those OEM signals in bubble wrap and save them for when you finally sell her! OEM signals tend to cost a lot whereas the disposable chinese ebay led blinkers? I just bought another set of 4 on ebay for $15 DELIVERED....they work fine too! I mean they might not be spaced wide enough for DOT specs but whats the chances a cop will be that much a dick to measure and cite for a fixit ticket? Never happened to me or any pals to my knowledge..YMMV however

Very nice summary of the bike. That was interesting. Yes, the desmosedici does prevent valve float, but I think the engines didn't rev high enough back then to make much of a difference. My guess is that this was some kind of workaround for valve springs that break.

Love them - struggle with the price though - sooooo many other types available for $10-12K: more HP, tq, better off-road, more tech - just better. Scrambler does have a great personality but when it comes to writing the cheque, not sure. Sixty2 is closer to the original idea and if it was $1,500 less I would own one - just a bit worried about seat height at 6'1" - may be too small for me.

I personally not, but my father does own one, and I can say, you need some necessary upgrades to fully enjoy this bike. The exhaust is the first and the seat the second. The standard one sounds very bad and it’s very quit (unfortunately), so everyone should get one without a decibel killer. And the standard seat is too wide.

Just rented an urban enduro on TR last week. Lots of character, but very short range and felt like wind sail anything past 65, which is a necessity in Texas. It really needs an analog tach, better pegs, and a beefier rear shock. All things fixed on the Sled, so agree, don’t get one unless it’s a sled. And The cafe racer version is an oxymoron and should not exist.

Yam!! If you have a high temp/air-cooled engine you want to run higher octane fuel because it's more resistant to detonation which becomes a problem at higher operating temperatures. Lower octane fuel would be worse for your air cooled engine. 8:44

I had the urban Enduro when they first came to Australia , I got mine in 2016. Took it LOTS off road , but was disappointed in suspension travel ,tank size .& carrying capacity ( due to pipe on one side ) was not the best bike for long trips - also the seat was like a plank of timber ( I did get suspension & seat done - plus small screen and other stuff ) , I think it’s more of a super moto - in the twisties and a day tripper bike . But if the desert sled was out at the time that’s what I would have got - it would have solved all but the fuel capacity problem.

The scrambler engine is very smooth for a ducati L-twin. Compared to many of the L-twin engines I've experienced from ducati, the scrambler is amazingly smooth in the low-end. Often ducati L-twins are plotting murder against those who dare to go in the low-end rpm's and don't master throttle control. In this sense the scrambler is definitely the odd one out in their range. Personally I think it's overpriced and the scrambler seems a bit unsuited for highways.

Lower octane fuel helps with overheating? How?
@Gofr5
@Gofr5 4 жыл бұрын
Lower octane fuel doesn't have to be compressed as much before ignition which means there's less energy there and thus less heat. At least I believe that's how it goes.
@JoshRips
@JoshRips 4 жыл бұрын
Lower octane gas causes pinging when an air cooled bike gets too hot. Octane is the resistance to detonation, a hotter bike will cause detonation on low octane fuel.
@Number63fr
@Number63fr 4 жыл бұрын
It's actually the opposite. Octane represents the fuel's capacity to not auto-ignite (which can destroy an engine). The higher it is, the better it is at it. If your bike runs hot, the fuel is more likely to auto-ignite. That's why higher octane fuel could help if your bike runs hot. It won't cool the bike or anything, but it will prevent detonation. The usual upgrades if your bike runs hot is a bigger/better radiator and/or a fan, but it can be tricky to install depending on the bike.

its a beautiful bike..... but the real question is Is it reliable like the XSR? Can you ride that thing all over Asia and not worry about breaking down and finding parts?

I have a monster 800 I.E. (same power plant basically) and I love it so much. I'd like to ride a scrambler and see what the equivalent feels like 17 years later.

I owned the 1000S ie 2003 model. The latest 1100 version of that engine in the new scrambler is tame by comparison. Probably due to emission regulations. Not sure about the 800s.
@Ty-sm9cv
@Ty-sm9cv 4 жыл бұрын
@@drewiediggler1 scrambler 800 puts out the same power figures. Idk if the same is true for the 1000, but the FI on the early I.E. models was primitive and that certainly contributes to the 800 feeling 'raw'

Heeres a thing...drop a japanese or austrian dual sport /enduro type motorcycle at slo speed and maybe you crack a turn signal (Ihave dumped my 690 probably 10 times and all I ever broke was my turn signal (though I DID install cycras version of bark busters) and after replacing all the fragile stock turn signals with disposable chinese tiny LED units now nothing is hurt but but my pride on low speed get offs....but then I watched a desert sled video where the rider dropped his one time in a corner on a dirt road and did a substatially expensiv eamount of damage ....I was quite interested in the sled until I watched THAT! what a deal KILLER!! just sayin they can keep any bike advertised for the dirt that is too fragile for low speed get offs

Thankfully I've only put my desert sled down in the mud, which by the way this bike is almost way to heavy for and has the wrong tires for. Gonna buy a new shifter assembly for when I inevitability break mine. Otherwise I bought the bike for fun...not resale value.

Yammie is right, you don't want the originals. If you want a throw back buy the new version. I would think 99% of the guys watching this would be totally baffled by figuring out what is wrong on the originals. Your points are burnt, they must have arced. .....If you have no idea what that means old bikes aren't for you.
