Don't give up. After about 1 year old their personality usually change and they start actually to love people. I had 3 very skittish robo hammies and 2 hammies became absolutely lovely and even cuddly after they've turned 1 year old. The 3rd one is still too young, approx. 3 months old, so it's still very skittinsh, but I never give up and constantly taming it.

I always give my hamsters dried mealworms as an extra source of protein and they’re always SUPER popular. You can get a huge bag for $5 so it’s pretty cost effective. A technique for handling my robo, Vespa, that worked out really well was giving her an old sock to crawl into and holding that. She would end up falling asleep in it if I held the sock, I’d imagine bc the warmth from my hands was relaxing!! And I could watch tv with her like that. She would sometimes chew holes in the sock so it’s best to do it with one you don’t care about. Also using long sock is good so if they want to get out you can tell and bring them back to their cage.

I have 4 female Robo’s... 2 agouti, 1 pied, 1 white. My pied and white ones were together up until last night. I rescued them together from a craigslist add and had them together for about a month with me. I saw them fighting last night and instantly separated them because I’m not taking any chances! My other two girls have always been by themselves and I defiantly prefer them alone because it eliminates the risk or fighting all together. I also currently have 3 Russians and 2 Syrians. Robo’s are very fast and different than the other species! I have had one of mine, Minnie for about 7 months now and she sometimes wants to be handled but she hated me when I first got her lol constantly biting me. Peanut is usually scared of my hands (also got her from a neglect different craigslist situation) but slowly getting better considering I’ve only had her for about two months. Snowflake and Blizzard seemed to like each other better than me up til now so hopefully now that they’re separated I’ll be able to get both of them a little more tame by themselves😊

I already have two separately housed hybrids and kind of wanted a pair for the third enclosure. But I have very bad arthritis in my hands and can’t possibly catch the Roborovski to cut their nails which you reminded me of so thank you… I had forgotten about having to scruff the little ones and my hands are also slightly shaky so that’s a no, LOL. I guess I’ll be getting another hybrid dwarf! Thank you for the timely video.

Brought my son 2 robos and I have just ordered a large play pen as I was going to do the same as you suggested. They are so fast and I’m worried they will fall or hurt themselves if we tried just sitting on the couch with them. My son is use to Syrians which are a little slower and much larger, he’s had 2 Syrians and both have been so cuddly and tame and not minded being handled. I can tell it’s going to be different with the 2 little fluffy marshmallows 🤣 I guess we will see how it goes. So far he’s been taking to them and laying his hand flat in the cage with a treat on, one of them has sat in his hand but that’s about it. He’s only had them 2 days so i have told him it will take time, but will interact with them everyday so they get use to him and not feel frightened.

Yea mine 2 came from a pet store so I don't know if they were family. When they first came home sharing a 10 gal tank and one of everything (wheel, coconut etc) for a couple of weeks it was all good. Later when I got the 5 ft by 18 in habitat finished and two of everything it was still good for a couple more weeks then I started hearing squeaks in the night so I started spying on them and I noticed I had a bully on my hands. I split the cage and it was good. Then after a cleaning I didn't get the wall back in right and the bully attacked the other so I now have them not only in separate homes but other rooms because there was not enough room for the cages. We have had them for about 5 months and neither one is sociable. They have natural habitats so there are plenty of places to hid or dig in the deep bedding so there is no catching them. The cages are just about empty before they can be tricked into a small carrier for cleaning. So they are just for observations but I really would love to love them they are so adorable.

Watch Victoria Rachel for some great tips! I’ll give some as well. 450 square inches of floor space is the bare minimum for hamsters, anything less is abuse. (Bin cages are a very cheap alternative) 6-10 inches of bedding needs to be provided so they can borrow and do there natural behaviors. There teeth constantly grow so which things to chew on like wooden chews there will be medical problems. None of the pet store foods provide the diet hamsters need so I recommend getting and mixing Missouri ray and mouse food and Higgins sunburst gourmet hamster and gerbil food. A sand bath is needed so your hamster can clean themselves as baths are harmful. Children’s play sand is safe but sands for hamsters and other animals are not. Enrichment is very important so some tips are many toys and things to hide under climb and chew on. Scatter feeding there food so they can forage for it like in the wild Last thing (and I know this was a lot I just wish you the best!) is that all hamsters need at least a 8.5in wheel to prevent thete spine from bending. Syrian hamsters (the biggest type of hamster) could need a 12in. Again I recommend Victoria Rachel for so many tips on giving your animal the best life it can have.

@alainasmithyb3 жыл бұрын
It’s most likely would be okay. Just be sure to watch for signs of stress and as long as you have none of that it’s okay. But I really want to stress that hamsters are solitary animals. Which means they prefer to be alone and that’s best for them. Pairs are only risks that aren’t necessary. If you haven’t already I definitely would stick with only one for the hamsters well-being.

I’ve always kept groups of mice and currently have 1 syrian in a 40 gallon long tank..i’ve never had robos because i knew they were a little different and now i suddenly have 3…they seem to get along well enough, sleeping together up in the wheel and they’re not afraid of me either. Great video! Could you do a video on how you do a health check? I've just got a robo and am doing a taming diaries series. My main concern is how I will health check and take to the vets, maybe even nail clipping?

Our beautiful boy Robo just passed away at a little over 4 years old. We never heard of trimming their nails though, nor did the vet mention ever doing that. His didn't get long that I know of, are you sure about trimming claws? Seems like a recommendation that would get a bunch of idiot owners to accidently trim too far on their toes? Do you have any vids of you trimming?!

Can I get only 1 Robo hamster? Or does it have to be in a pack? I heard they live better with their litter mates?
@kokichioma77594 жыл бұрын
It’s better to keep them alone, it’s possible they can fight, but it’s ok to keep them together. Sorry I don’t know much about hamsters, your best bet would be searching it up or watching hamster videos :p

what kind of bedding is that?
@alainasmithyb3 жыл бұрын
It’s paper shreds that people use are filler for gifts and things, I definitely wouldn’t recommend it because it doesn’t hold burrows at all.

A bit late but my robo hamster doesn't hate me nor is super frightened. I say she's shy and easy to spook but so curious to. Shes ran over my hands sniffed my hands nibbled my hands and I got to learn about her behaviours as she's learned mine through me taming. Also she's 9 weeks old.

I was thinking of getting one because as you said, their cute and small and overall adorable little creatures. I don’t mind all the care that I have to do for it but my parents might have a problem about that since am only a child 😂. Still, I hope I can change their mind?

Why not give them something so they can trim the nails themselves? You can't exactly expect to both keep a Robo relaxed and also forcibly grab them and trim their nails, clean their glands whenever needed.

Can I use a 10 gallon tank
@alainasmithyb3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the bare minimum for hamsters is 450 square feet which only a 50 gallon provides. I’d recommend a 100 quart bin cage which is cheap and provides the minimum
@alainasmithyb3 жыл бұрын
