Here's some advice for those of you who thinking of enlisting. Make damn sure this is what you want to do. Once there you cannot change your mind. Period. The Marine Corps is some very serious shit. This is no game you can switch off and walk away from, it is real. You can be killed or you can be fuck up for the rest of your life. Once again Period.. Now, I don't expect any of you to really listen to me. That's fine because i never listen to anyone either. But back on January 30, 1972 when i step off that bus at Parris Island my first thought was "What in thee hell did i get myself into, these people are fucking insane, crazy, and why are they beating on that guy who trip getting off the bus". All this in the first 60 seconds and i was scared shitless. The Marine Corps has changed over the past 42 years. PT then was 7 days a week, every morning. After afternoon and evening chow we would run another 2 miles., which was a practice they discontinued while i was there. It made no sense in having a bunch of recruits puking everywhere. Same as the 7 days a week of PT. That method just defeated the purpose of PT. The Marines have not become softer, just a lot smarter. The marines today impress me. they seem smarter, faster, tougher than we were. Good luck to all you crazy little sons a bitches. Remember this, somebody has to do it. ( grunts 0311)..

One thing to mention on this video is the transition from P days to T1, Nothing really prepares you for transition from processing to training platoon. Also, know that you will get a "certain" level of respect on your grad day.I would finish by saying that you can make it. As long as you listen and are willing to push to your "true" best, you will do fine. Lastly, remember that your D.I. is there to prepare you to succeed, which will make you a better Marine and person in life.

Good video. Our son graduated boot camp 11-14 and left for combat training yesterday. "Do what you are told, when you are told, as fast as you can." That is what he said about boot camp. The comments about it being mental are right on. Exactly what our son said. You get out of it what you put into it. He left boot camp with great respect for a couple of the drill instructors. There is a reason for all the stuff they do. He told me yesterday at the airport, "machine guns and grenade launchers, how cool is that gonna be?" Oh and it wasn't all roses for him. "The first phase sucked, no one wanted to be there". That is a quote. Thanks for the video and your service.

Marines, also known as a marine corps or naval infantry, are typically an infantry force that specializes in the support of naval and army operations at sea and on land, as well as the execution of their own operations. In the majority of countries, the marine force is an integral part of the navy, but it can also be under the army, like the Troupes de marine (French Marines) and Givati Brigade (Israeli Marines), or form an independent service branch, like the United States Marine Corps and the Royal Marines (although, the United States Marine Corps is under the United States Department of the Navy, and the Royal Marines come under Her Majesty's Naval Service). Historically, tasks undertaken by marines have included: helping maintain discipline and order aboard the ship (reflecting the pressed nature of the ships' company and the risk of mutiny), the boarding of vessels during combat or capture of prize ships, and providing manpower for raiding ashore in support of the naval objectives. With the industrialization of warfare in the 20th century, the scale of landing operations increased; this brought with it an increased likelihood of opposition, and a need for co-ordination of various military elements. Marine forces evolved to specialize in the skills and capabilities required for amphibious warfare.

A bit of advice I can give to people is that you should always remember in the back of your head is that they treat you like shit is because you all come from different places and different backgrounds and in the Army/Navy you all need to be the same. They need to break you away from your separate self that you once were in civi life and make you into a soldier. Not saying you cant be yourself but becoming a member of the Forces is not just a job it is a lifestyle change also remember why you joined and where you want to be once your training is over ! Good luck to anyone joining !

I am going to be enlisting in in the next year, i am just wondering how good of shape would you recommend to be in before you go, my father was in the core in the mid 70's he said it was hell, but a lot has changed since then.
