You could get a pair of cycling gloves to wear when you're cutting them up. The padding is right where your hands were getting red.

That had am the info I was missing. We chose to store our conkers intact, no problem with hammering them before soaking, but we had a few doubts left, I will study your vid and put it to good use : thanks A LOT !

Klaire, I’m just starting my soap nut journey with every day wash and for a shampoo alternative. I so appreciate this video and I can’t wait to try to wild harvest some conkers to try. I really love the music in this vid…who is it and where did you find it? Thanks so much for sharing information!

I've recently found that I have an abundance of conkers where I live! I love the idea of dehydrating the bits! Do you think once dehydrated they will be fine to store; as long as kept cool and dry?

Thanks for sharing this method. Although I thought the idea of using a 100% natural laundry DIY detergent. Was due to sensitive skin. Therefore using chemical detergent for 'nappies or sanitary towels' negates this purpose. As it's an irritant for your babies skin & female genitalia.

Thank you Klaire, lovely as always😊 Can I ask why, you prefer regular detergent for nappies than conker detergent? I was planning on starting to use it for all of our laundry instead of differentiating deteregents.

I'd just rather those were cleaned down to their soul. If I was desperate, and let's say for argument's sake that nobody in the UK could buy laundry detergent, then I would. But then I'd boil everything after too. I don't like gentle cleaners when it comes to poop and blood.

Likewise. I just use washing powder these days because it's in a cardboard box, whereas the liquid one is in a plastic bottle and seems to run out faster.

Can I ask what you used to bath potato when he was a baby or if you still use it now? I’m so paranoid about all of the chemicals in baby products 😣 and just thought you might have had a natural alternative xx

Those conkers look like a horsechestnut called a buckeye. I agree with using regular detergents for sensitive area clothing.

Joon Gremillet-Nguyen she explains this in her previous video. Short answer: not really. You can keep it in the fridge for a couple of days, but it goes off pretty quickly and smells.

This is fascinating but why *did* you switch to conkers from soapnuts? Was it just easier to gather as they grown in the UK?

I believe she mentions it in the first video she made about using conckers. She said something to the effect of "I couldn't justify using something from halfway across the world when I had an alternative growing in my backyard".

wait why do you not use them on the nappys or sanitary pads? is it bad for your skin/toxic at all?
@briannaault7666

MakoBeauty She prefers that the sanitary pads and nappies are “cleaned to their soul”. If she couldn’t get detergent, she would use them, but then boil the nappies or sanitary pads after.

They're different things. Horse chestnuts are Aesculus hippocastanum. Water chestnuts are Eleocharis dulcis. And "regular" edible spiky chestnuts are in the genus Castanea.
