SD deserves major credit for giving us rockabilly/punk/country all wrapped up in a big ball of furious, riffy guitar driven energy. Mike Ness IS Social Distortion- may his sandpaper lungs shout out forever.

(this is my husband's account) My dad took me to see Niel Young for my 30th birthday and to my surprise, these guys opened for him and stayed to play a few songs with Niel for the encore. It was the first time my dad had heard social distortion anf he loved it. It was a great night!

How cool is that! There's a couple recent vids where Mike talks about how a few years ago it was older fans turning their kids onto Social D and bringing them to the shows, and now it's young fans bringing their parents! Their music will live forever.

Life was better in those days. Simpler and less stress. I was working and on my own in the 90s and I will still say its way better than today. Money went further, People were not so offended and we could do what we wanted. No real supervision and we turned out fine. Now everyone is paranoid and delusional locking their kids in the house all the time. Now we have internet morons who are trying to run things. Those people we could ignore back in those days are now front and center. Sorry to rant lol

@@vikinglife6316glad to say I’m not like this, Just turned 17 not too long, spent most of my early teens going to underground punk shows in Phoenix, and now do the same in Chicago. As I’m typing this I’m going to one later today. Glad I never stayed locked up and alone, ain’t never needed anyone to go with me ether. I wish I could’ve seen Social D in the 90s or even their early days in the 80s. I envy yall who grew up or just lived in the 90s

Amazing these guys came into their own in the late 1980s, blazed through the 1990s sounding like nobody else, and then wrote a miraculous album in the early 2000s and just kept touring. Very few bands have this kind of longevity. This is the best so far away I've ever heard, but I'm sure they played it like this countless times.

Stop it already. Fuckin plenty of bands that killed ans still kill it. Nothing too real hear. 1st record has some merrit. And if u give credit to ball and chain and story of my life then great. Other than that, not much but a dude faking rough vocals and attitude. But what do I know, I'm just an old dude on the internet.

No. Ur caught up in dickies and wife beaters. Haha. Mike's voice is herendous here, and this is after making it. But whatever- it's the band that wanna bees fluked too, to get them in the punk or rocka alternative club. However, this has been my opinion for decades now, and so I'm just an old fart speaking out still about Mike's fake harsh voice and attitude. Met much of these guys and types years ago, not so harsh, just doing their thing that attacks the peeps. There is much better out there, just go out to search for it.

adams avenue? The theater was a bulk carpet outlet last time I was in san diego. San diego to ventura was killer punk in the eightes. a buddy handed me mommys little monster on a day off and said listen to this it will change your life. listened to 8 hours of mommys and clash green album on repeat . He was right, it was the single most defining influence in my life. cut my hair off with safest scissors, quit my job at Mammoth and moved to valley center into a house full of punks. i'm 59 and passed a thumb drive of social d , bad religion, ramones , misfits to my grandson today, also told him 'never trust a fucking hippy' . So there will be at least one kid starting kindergarten with the answers in hand. single bigget regret; blowing off DK to get laid and never got the chance to see them after that. also put keith morris' version of gimme gimme gimme on the thumb drive, cuz it is by far the best version

I saw them live during this tour. My friend & I were invited backstage by Mike Ness because I had met him earlier on the street of the venue while he was outside smoking. Our fresh faced 16 & 19 year olds ( then) eagerly awaited to get backstage while the rougher older girls pushed passed us. The road guy took one look at us & said ,” No. you two are not coming back here. I see what goes on back here.” Man, I’m glad he didn’t let us back. Big fan though. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My band did a show with Social D back in 1982 when they were traveling in an old school bus with Youth Brigade. The tour was filmed and called ANOTHER STATE OF MIND,after the tune which Mike wrote during the tour. They had each been taking a qualude before each show, and, in Hartford,CT., they were down to their last half pill each and broke up a week later. If not for Monk,a great guy who wore many hats during the tour, they wouldnt have made it half as far on the tour. The film is one of the best punk rock films ever.

Someone asked what band I was in when we opened for SOCIAL DISTORTION in 1982,it was YOUTH KORPS,a band I started in 1981.I first started playing guitar with the formation of that band,my only previous experience was playing bass for the HATES,the earliest Texas punk band.I actually quit REALLY RED to join HATES,Ronnie Bond asked me to play bass in RR,and I practiced with them but didn't really like the tunes they were doing in March of 1979.When Christian Arnheiter offered me the bass in HATES,I eagerly jumped ship.

I saw Social D at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon back in 2008 (give or take a year). That venue is unique in that it has a spring supported dance floor. As people start moving with the beat, the floor gets moving. It's an odd feeling that mimics a very small earthquake. Anyhow, these guys were rocking the hell out of that place. I'd never seen or even heard of them before. I was there as an invite from a hardcore fan who insisted I see them. WOW! What a kickass show. I'm so glad I went. What "sealed the deal" for me was their rendition of "Ring of Fire." I was blown away. They stayed close enough to the original they didn't butcher the song, which doesn't always happen. Social D covered that song with total taste and it's now the only version I listen to.

Social D & Steel Pulse are hands down the 2 bands I’ve seen the most…and many times not even intentionally. I’ve seen both probably 10-12 times and at least half were times I attended this festival or that festival and, lo and behold, who just happens to be rocking a set (one that I’ll be sure not to miss) that day. This is by no means a complaint, I honestly don’t know if I’ve seen all too many better live bands…both of those bands are absolute iron men of touring and have been hard charging for 30+ years now. It’s truly impressive stuff. Love me some Social D…rock on boys!

Love it. Favorite band ever. I've seen them dozens of times and every show rocks. Their sound, their micing, everything is just so dead on. In 92 we were even escorted in the back door of a local club by the opening band and I made my way right across the stage next to Mike during the show. Awesome times.
