Check out my Cover/Play through of Social Distortion's new song "TONIGHT"
Having Learnt this by ear this is as close as I can get. Also picked up a few tips from watching Mike play this live in person as I was in the front row of their London Shows in July 2022!
I have doubled tracked the guitars but it made sense to only video one of them.
This was one of the best audios I could download of this song being played live. Unfortunately it seems as though Mike's guitar is slightly out of tune on the G string so in attempt to mask that I have turned my guitars up a fair amount. So apologies if it's still noticeable but I can assure you my guitar is in perfect tune as I made sure of that haha! enjoy!

My man, that LP is beautiful... the tone is amazing. I saw Social Distortion in 2018 (was standing right in front of Jonny) and the place was rocking! The best concert I've seen.

Killer dude!! They have some awesome unreleased ones they play live at the moment. Like, Tonight, Scars, Born to kill, The way things were, Super Bad. Just to name a couple. I think I’m gonna work on a few more of their new ones to keep people entertained until the new album drops. Takes a little longer because I have to learn them all by ear! 😩

Remember when they changed the lyrics to Angels Wings? The live demo of it has different lyrics than the official product, and the original lyrics that were done live resonated more with me than what they released on disc.

Thanks so much man! Study away!!! Be sure to zoom in and use the playback feature to slow it down! ;) also tune down to Eb and capo the second fret and use a tuner to bring the pitch down a little as adding the capo will make them sharp! Just incase you weren’t aware haha! ;) f*ck yeah Social D rule!! Can’t wait for the new album!

Great cover! This song sounds amazing. I hope new SD's album will be that great as the previous ones. And I'm friendly envy that you were lucky enough to be there at the show. I have waited for 3 bloody years because of the corona, and this year the wars broke out. I did the very best I could to get to their show because who knows, maybe there will be no opportunity in future at all, but I was not successful. This tears me apart.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Lyrics wise I’m not sure?? I had written down what I interpret them to be but I have noticed that Mike seems to sing different versions of the lyrics from night to night.

Thank you so much! More or less all stock yes except for… switchcraft toggle, tusq nut, gear4music tuners, tone/vol knobs and I stripped out all the quick connect electronics and totally rewired it by hardwiring it in 50’s Gibson era correct style so I don’t lose treble when I roll back the volume on the bridge for rhythm stuff… then obviously for leads and solos roll up the vol full and back it off accordingly to find the sweet spot of the stock 1999 pick ups hope that helps 👍🏻

Thanks! You're correct... Guitar into a silver non horsey Centaur and into a Black faced Bassman on top of a Marshall 4x12 cab. Slight amounts of compression and reverb added in post production. I also boosted the mids a little for more punch

My best suggestion to you with the strumming would be to try and FEEL it rather than actively try to copy every strum in the exact same place. I find strumming to the beat of the drums help.

Yes Mike as well as many other guitarists (myself included) are fond of double stops. Which portion of the video are you referring too. Tell me the time stamp and I’ll do my best to help you out.

Yep! A 5 2 minor 3rd and Cm signature. Guitar is tuned down a half step and capo’d on 2. To make first position F

More specifically a guitar preset I created using fender based heads and Marshall cabs and using Klon Centaur directly into the interface.

@@kris_riffs at the end of the day GarageBand is perfect for this stuff. Might need something a bit bigger for Live gigs but for recording and making videos you don’t really need anything else

No I don't unfortunately as I learned this all by ear and buy watching the guys live a couple of times up close this summer. if I were you id slow down video using the playback speed KZfaq feature to see what I'm doing better and also zoom in if you can. the tuning is E flat with capo on 2nd fret.
