I almost don't use social media. I delete apps such as Instagram Facebook and tiktok. I only have telegram for chating with friends(not so often) and youtube for entertaiment or education. I decided to limit the usage of smartphone for having more time on things that are really important. It lasts for 2 months. And yes My life is becoming better, because I can spend time with my family, read book and do all of my homework during 1 day😊

Adolescents are being fed content addictively by the algorithms on social media platforms. Social media platforms do this because their revenue comes from advertising. The longer people stay there, the more ads they see, and the more the platforms earn. As a result, it is the teenagers' parents' onus to help them fight the addiction. However, it's a losing battle, since teenagers spend a long time on social media.

Thank you, BBC Learning English, for this insightful video. It sheds light on the impact of social media on teenagers' mental health, discussing addiction, algorithms, and the challenges parents face. The content caters to English learners seeking to understand the complexities of social media in today's youth culture. For English Learner, here are my notes & lessons: The video explores the addictive nature of social media, particularly its impact on teenagers' mental health. It delves into the role of algorithms in content delivery, highlighting concerns about the prioritization of revenue over users' well-being. Professor Devi Sridhar emphasizes the challenges parents face in navigating their teenagers' social media use, acknowledging the onus placed on parents to find solutions. Vocabulary breakdown: 0. Addictive (adjective) 03:08 -Context: 'The content is addictive because social media uses algorithms.' -Explanation: Something addictive causes a strong desire or compulsion to continue engaging with it, as discussed in the video regarding social media content. 1. Algorithms (noun) 03:13 -Context: 'The content is addictive because social media uses algorithms.' -Explanation: Algorithms are a complex set of rules and calculations that determine and personalize the content a user sees on social media platforms, influencing user engagement. 2. Revenue (noun) 03:29 -Context: 'Social media platforms use algorithms to keep users for as long as possible because their revenue comes from advertising.' -Explanation: Revenue refers to the money a company earns, in this case, generated through advertising on social media platforms. 3. Onus (noun) 04:26 -Context: 'The onus has been put on parents to find solutions.' -Explanation: Onus means responsibility or duty, and in the video, it refers to the burden placed on parents to address the challenges of teenagers addicted to social media. 4. Losing Battle (noun phrase) 04:41 -Context: 'Even if this is a losing battle, a fight they cannot win as teenagers have their entire life on social networks.' -Explanation: A losing battle is a situation or conflict that is difficult or impossible to win, as discussed in the context of parents addressing teenagers' social media use. In the contemporary world, the growing number of adolescents addicted to social media platforms has been posing a serious threat to society and that could cause several issues for children. Firstly, in terms of health, teens who spend more than 3 hours on social media on a daily basis are likely to be double the risk of developing depression and anxiety. This is because all social media apps use an algorithm that prioritizes and personalizes the content a user sees. So that they are easily fed hate-based content in an addictive way. Secondly, In terms of studying, those who are addicted to social media apps tend to have bad academic results. In fact, they immerse themselves in surfing and chatting with friends all day so that they don't have time for their studies. For example, my brother who regularly plays truant to play video games could not pass the final exam recently.

The persons are in adolescence, feeding more content to social media. Everyone knows that these platforms have been targeted for revenue, but they couldn't resist staying away from social media sites. Parents know that arguing about the overuse of these social media platforms is like losing a battlefield, but it's their onus to keep them away from these chronic sites.

Algorithms ia a way to keep adolescent using social media for a long time and to keep them fed contect to it rather than improving our selfs thats refere to be addected and lead to losing your battle in life especially in a best periode in our lifes.

There is a chronic tendency with all the content adolescents are exposed to nowadays. Some experts considered it a losing battle since it is impossible not to be around these pages, whether for academic or recreational purposes. Young people are fed constantly with advertisements that provide the companies, through algorithms, useful information about their preferences, engaging them more and more and therefore increasing the revenue provided by those. Nevertheless, parents, as adults, are the only ones who have the onus of limiting the time spent on the internet for their kids.

My summary on the topic of the video: Social media has been blamed as one of the main contributors to the deterioration of teenage health. The underlying forces driving the degradation of mental health among teenagers lie in the algorithms running in the background since these algorithms are built to feed personalized content to social media users. This is when the onus will be put on the shoulders of parents to find viable solutions to help their children abstain from using social media platforms. In addition, some psychology experts suggest governments should implement policies to regulate these platforms, given that children are reported to experience disappointment about their body image and be exposed to hate-based comments. It is not a losing battle if parents and authorities work together to guide teenagers to improve their well-being.

When many adolescents have been fed by social media in terms of their personal algorithms, tech companies can earn revenue from them. And for the sake of their lives, the parents have the onus to control the addiction to social media. In the long term, their education and social skills can be harmful and eventually a losing battle for them.
