Buscá el video de Cerati con Andy Summers. Hicieron juntos una versión de "Tráeme la noche" (Bring on the Night). Andy quiso hacer una gira por Latinoamérica con temas de The Police, pero con Cerati como vocalista y guitarra. Pero Cerati no quiso, porque eso implicaba suspender su trabajo y proyectos como solista, ya que estaba a punto de sacar su disco Bocanada.

Soda Stereo joined the New Wave music movement of the 80s. You are absolutely right, D. You'll hear influences definitely from the Police, but also from the Cure, U2, even some punk (the Clash) and Ska. Later, more elaborated work, became also influenced by the earlier progressive and psychodelic rock era from the 70s, so there you will hear a style also reminiscent to Yes, Genesis, and Pink Floyd. Even with these clear influences, Gustavo Cerati was at the front line of music experimentation, always adopting the latest gadgets, and very aware of sound style trends from Europe and the US. Gustavo's perfectionism, hard work, polirythm composition, and overall creative genius produced a sound unique to himself, even aside from his unmistakable voice.

I was one of the lucky ones who saw The Police on December 16, 1980 in Mar del Plata, seven blocks from where I live now. Queen also visited us on those days. Simply shocking. That first version of Soda effectively refers us to the sound of The Police.

They did also come a couple of times to Chile, and after that, Sting alone a lot of times. I can't listen to their music without getting all teary eyes, make me remember my friends, my girlfriends having parties and getting crazy with their music.
