Hey man I'm very interested in metal detecting but I havent got one yet and was wondering what the cheapest option, and the easiest to use one for detecting everything that you said at the start in one metal detector, is there any like the mine lab that is less expensive and easier to use?

Just got my first detector, been looking at them for years... this video was SO helpful! Watched it twice. Been out in my yard twice after spending some time with the instructions and the setup of my detector. So far I found two gutter straps, a 1979 quarter, a 1980 penny, some wire and my late dog Maggie's sterling silver dog tag that she lost in 2012. (made me cry some 😥) Anyway.. thanks so much for this video!!

Don't make the mistake of not double checking your plug after you've found something. Sometimes there's multiple things in the plug and when you find one, you think "Well, that's it," and you put the plug back into the hole without continuing to check it for other objects.

I hope starting out with the ACE 300 wasn't a waste of money, meaning I hope I shouldn't have spent $1000 instead of $250 thanks for this great video. BTW, where can I get a pouch like yours?

Great info for beginners and well done but I would like to add some important info for your viewers . Knowing the location of any possible underground utilities is extremely important . This applies to major utilities like power,phone,coax cable,fiber optic cables water, and natural gas lines which will usually be put into a common trench line but not always . Most times they're down pretty deep but once again -- not always . I've been a repair technician and I've done utilities locating professionally for several years and I've definitely done my share of digging up lines and seen some lines that were barely under the grass including power lines . I've had to go to emergency locates where someone had dug into a power cable and got hurt pretty bad and in one incident the dig operator was burned over 60% of their body .It was a site I had previously located and had informed the construction company who had requested the locate that the power cable was pretty shallow and to be extremely careful but they didn't heed the warning . It's absolutely imperative to ask questions about the area and the utilities and where there might be sprinkler systems or private wiring like lighting etc and to always exercise caution . Unfortunately that one incident is one of many I could talk about but figured it was worth mentioning . If you haven't already done a video regarding this subject could you please do one ? Happy (safe) treasure hunting !!

Myself and my son and daughter (11 & 9) completed our very first detecting day outside of our backyard (just junk there so far). It was a popular FL beach (tourists and detectorists alike). It was hot so they wore out quickly and retired to swimming the surf! It was a bust for paying for the gas there and back (found all of $0.52!) Found and disposed of a lot of beer cans, pull tabs, pop tops, and tent stakes mostly. But most of all we got to LEARN some hard but also some fun lessons and experiences. The kids shared pinpointing and digging (big mistake not having a sand scoop!!). We WILL be back out, and will try different, (less hunted hopefully) beaches as well as any other site we can access. Thanks for the beginner tips!

So many questions. I just turned 60. Ever since I was a kid I’ve thought about getting in to this but don’t know where to begin. Some questions to begin. What can I expect to pay for a decent detector? Can you tell by the sounds it makes what metal you have likely found? Does it make a different sound depending how deep it is? Is it likely you will have to make an agreement with landowner on whatever you find? What legal responsibilities are involved? I’m sure I’ll think of more but that’s it for now. Sorry for all the questions but as I mentioned this newbie is not getting any younger and it seems that the physical activity would be a plus as well. Thanks for your help and patience.

I purchased a mid priced Fisher last summer, and practiced with it in my own yard and a neighbor's yard. I have gained some confidence with it, but still have a lot more area to search in my own yard. So will probably finish that before venturing elsewhere. The weather is getting better now up here in New England, so can't wait to get back out there. I am retired, so have plenty of time. My best find so far has been a vintage sterling silver heart shaped pendant. I also found an old piece of lead shaped like a padlock, but it is not a padlock. Maybe it is some kind of old weight? I haven't found any old coins yet - just a few copper and zinc Lincoln pennies. And yeah, have found a lot of junk - old nails, screws, foil, wire - all kinds of junk. But i separate and save all metals in buckets. At some point, will recycle the junk metals. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I have picked up a few valuable tips in using the device better and digging the plugs. I was digging out the entire circles, and putting them back. I like your idea of leaving like a hinge. I have a cheaper pin pointer that does work, but will probably upgrade everything to something better at some point. Thanks again, and happy hunting my new friend! New sub here!

Hi Larry. I recently purchased an Equinox 600 that I’m just starting to learn to use. I was a little intimidated by some of the features and have found your videos very helpful. I live in the country in WV on part of an old farm. I have a lot to check out on my own property. But eventually I’d like to hunt on local farms around old houses and buildings or where they used to be. I would never do so without permission. How do you negotiate with a landowner regarding your findings? Do you always have a verbal agreement you can keep 100% of what you find? It isn’t like you hock all your findings and can split the proceeds 50/50 or something like that. I can imagine a land owner not feeling good about you digging up some war, jewelry or coin artifact of some value and keeping it for yourself. I’ve considered to offer to show the land owner everything I find and let them keep as much or as little as they want. I kind of feel like I’m in this for the excitement of the find, not the financial value to me. I could take a picture and then leave my findings with the landowner. Building a collection of the real finds would be better than pictures but not a requirement.
@SodBustersMetalDetecting3 жыл бұрын
I am glad I am able to help Keith. As far as finds on someone's property, I have only had a couple people that wanted what I have found. In most cases I concentrate on getting the permission and if they mention anything about what I find I tell them that if I were to find any substantial items that we could reach an agreement on one of us buying out the other or splitting the sale of the item. We use our finds to help pay for our detecting equipment so to just hand everything over isnt fare either. I wish you the best. Feel free to find Sod Busters Metal Detecting group on Facebook also.

Great video. Easy to follow, and gave me a good idea of what to expect. I have to decide on my gear, and I wasn't even aware of the drop cloth, the spritzer, and the toothpicks.

Your video was very helpful. I'm just starting to metal detect for something fun to do with my 10-year-old grandson. I live in a 112-year-old farmhouse just outside Kansas City, MO in the country, and I'm sure there are treasures underfoot in the yard. Wish I had watched BEFORE I dug holes in my lawn and ruined a gardening trowel. ;-D Thank you.

Love your videos! My girlfriend got me the BH Land Ranger Pro for Christmas last year and I am hooked! I have all the tools you mentioned. I have found so many coins ($22 face value) and a couple rings. My only complaint with BH and the LRP is the pinpoint and ground grab buttons are junk out of the box, sent it back to BH and it came back just as bad. I won't purchase BH again. The equinox 800 is my next purchase. Just my story :-) Thanks again for your great videos!

Not sure how much room I have to comment here, but will give it a go. I'm 60 years old. When I was a kid we used to play in the woods near my house. It was called Tucker's Woods. There was a burned down house there. We would find old green cork medicine bottles and such there. About a mile away there was a spring squared off with cobbled stone. You could see musket balls in the trees in the area and arrow heads too. In my garden that I made as a kid of 8 or so, I used to get so mad about all the hat buckles and civil war buckles that I dug up and had to throw away. This was all in Virginia. In your opinion, is it worth going back to my mom's house as a beginner and trying to find things?
@SodBustersMetalDetecting3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely!!! Doc that is what we are all looking for are spots like that. That sounds like a treasure trove and I would love to hear about the things you find. Locate my Sod Busters metal detecting Facebook group and join me there, I would love to hear more about your story.
