I'm moving back to Reno, Nevada after living in the Philippines over 10 years.. After watching your vido's I have a Minelab Equinox 800.. Just making 78 years old, I decided to start going to the hills to look for gold and ghost towns. I figured after learning how to use it, I will go back to Oregon, where I'm from to visit family.... If your put groups together for field trips, I would be interested in coming up for one, to learn more on how to use my Detector... I would like to make something perfectly clear to new users of the Equniox. You do not need to hold the power button down until you see FP on your screen.That is only for when you are changing any programs or settings back to the stock factory presets.Holding the power button down until FP is on the screen will un sync your previously sync'ed headphones causing you to have to sync your headphones every time you power on your detector.

Thank you for this easy to understand tutorial. I just got my new detector today and I was playing around my backyard and almost immediately I found an old gold-plated belt buckle and about five minutes later I found a really nice silver spoon that dates back to the 1800's! So, on my first day I found silver and gold!

I agree !! Just purchased the Equinox 800 as my first detector. Trying to learn as much as possible about it and this tutorial was extremely helpful. This machine is very intimidating to start out with. But with this tutorial it shows just how easy and user friendly this machine really is! I received my NOX 800 on Friday. I wish they'd sent the full Owner's Manual with it. Reading it on my phone is a PITA and the same with my computer workstation. The Quickstart Guide is very barebones. Not a lot of info, but it will get you started. Your 'basic' and 'advanced' videos have been a tremendous help! Thank you, so very much. I'm sure there are volumes, yet to be learned. But, you have certainly given us 'newbies' a leg-up.

Hi, I found this very helpful and informative. I was struggling today with using my Equinox for the first time, so found this tutorial and it has given me more confidence to try again. I have come back to metal detecting after a 30 year break; machines have moved on a bit and not like the old machines which were basically just turn on and go! I have had numerous machines over the years and I found the best one for me was the Minelab Sovereign Elite which was great for beach work. Unfortunately, this Equinox 800 is a lot more sophisticated for me (I'm 75 years old). A big thanks from the UK, you're great!

Good video to show beginners basic operation. Instead of doing a factory reset at startup, you can just hold down the black detect/mode button on the left for 5 seconds until you see SP on the screen and reset the search mode you are using to factory defaults. The threshold tone does not help you detect small targets in any mode. Instead, it tells you if you are passing the coil over a discriminated/rejected target. The threshold tone will momentarily go silent or null over the rejected target. It is a good alternative instead of hunting with the horseshoe button depressed all of the time so that all metals including iron are accepted. The frequent iron low tones can get annoying. If I hear the threshold tone go silent in say Park 1 but I have what seem to be good numbers I can also quickly press the horseshoe button to double check for iron and decide to dig or not.

Great video! Every time you get a new machine, you have to rewire your brain too! The frequency number is the number of times a signal is transmitted into the ground per second...measured in Hertz 1000 Hertz = 1kHz I looked it up, Page 15 of the manual!

Thank you, I just got an 800 in the mail today. I liked and subscribed. The one thing that I would like to mention is the power button. A short press of the Power button turns the detector on and off. A long press (5 seconds) restores the whole detector to factory settings. Without thinking, someone might turn it on with a long press every time and erase any of their personal settings. But this video is obviously titled Getting Started, just wanted to add that piece of information.

Great video!i have had the NOX for awhile and still keep learning new things. It took a long time to extract myself from the CTX but after finding silver in iron infested areas which the 3030 couldn’t do I am a believer! I look forward to videos using the advance settings! Thanks, Peggy

I sure appreciate this video. I have been on the fence about purchasing the 600 and constantly find myself thinking " I dont want to do all that just to detect". This made it seem less intimidating. I will be buying a 600 in two weeks.

You eliminated the fear I had, Im exaggerating a bit to express my feelings, purchasing this piece of equipment, not having any experience metal detecting ever in my life. Me, not having much technology experience or computer skill, your video helped me get through a lot of anxiety I had getting started. I just bought my Equinox a day ago and Im going out in the morning to have my first EVER taste of metal detecting in the Mojave desert. I couldn't have chosen a hotter day if I planned for a year but oh well, I do love living here and thank you for the informative video, sir, its much appreciated. Take care.

Hi Larry, my name is Allan Facey and I’m from Australia. I enjoyed your video and I think the Equinox 800 is just what I need. You see, I’ve been looking for a missing aircraft VH-MDX for the last twelve months. This aircraft went down over the Barrington Tops in 1981 with five people on board. I think it’s lying on the side of the mountain with a sixty degrees slope so with forty years of growth and decay I’m sure it is buried. The next time I go in I hope to purchase the Equinox 800 and take it with me. Thanks again Allan

I ordered the equinox 800 a month ago, super frustrated when I started using it so I decided to KZfaq settings and such, changed my settings to the videos suggestions (huge huge mistake) and after that I could not for the life of me get it to the point where it was accurate and would hit something and go to dig and it would just disappear. Now I came across this video and found the factory reset I’m hoping that now I go out I can begin enjoying the detector now it’s settings are reset. Thank you even if it’s just the basics but thank you for the video!

Fantastic video, step by step instructions on each setting. I have decided on the the 800 over the 600 and from watching your video I think it will be easy to set up. I did talk to a factory rep recently and he advised it could be powered on and go hunt, but I do understand an adjustment for ground balance would be good even if you want to hunt this way. But with your settings I think the learning curve will be much easier. I look forward to getting the 800 and and learning while I hunt. Thanks for your great video !

You do got some good videos. Thanks for making them. I just bought my equinox yesterday and was at the GPAA here in Alabama. I pulled it out and after a few minutes I just put it back in the box until I could watch me a video. I’ve watched two of your videos and could take it out now and hunt. Not for gold yet but hint still the same. Yesterday it just confused me trying to hold hunt with it but I owned a xterra 705 a couple of years ago and just knew I need to learn at least a little bit about it before attempting more advanced hunting like gold right out of the box. You’ve helped me a lot. Thank you brother.

Perhaps it's already been mentioned, but the gear wheel you mention several times is actually a universal icon symbol for the 'settings' menu. I have it on my iPad, Android phone, and PC.

Such good info. I also watched your assembly video of the Nox 800 when I got mine last week. It helped me get it together quick. I understand a lot of how it works except how to determine how deep a target is.

I think you did a great job making this. I've been prospecting for years in the creeks and rivers here in the Northwest...always thought about a metal detector..but I knew technology was advancing leaps and bounds...so I waited..surprise!!!.my wife put this under the Christmas tree. Back into "Metal Detecting", went through quite a few videos because it's been.....don't laugh SodBuster....45 years ago. Love and enjoy your videos, awesome, presentation, it's like having a discussion about a hobby (Screen Protectors....aren't the Cool Guy!!!) I bought the MineLab 440....first....just for target "flagging", went on to buy the Equinox 800 & XP Deus last Monday 5/10th. The MineLab Vanquish series......let's say the 340, was probably what I was using a tech goes 45 years ago at 12 years of age. Digging up "Greatgrandpa's.....I'll say "WWII" yard :) all the coins from that era, even the metal penny's which BTW....don't target on the 440....you have to go to iron mode. Oops that's a double sweep.

Hi Sir, I am a new Subscriber, just ordered the Mine lab Equinox 800, I have a Fisher CZ-21 already been out in the field it is a good very sensitive detector but no screen, this is why I ordered the 800. Thank You Larry for taking time out to make videos on the Equinox 800 they are very informative. I finally bought a Equinox 800 after watching your videos on the 800 it's a little awkward with the 11 inch coil so I ordered a 6 inch DD coil which should help with the weight and benefit the 800 even more. Do you have any suggestions on carbon fiber shafts.

Hermoso detector !!!!! Si me lo queres mandar de regalo para mi cumpleaños, que es en Octubre, YO estaría super feliz !!!!!!! Bromas a parte, es realmente un detector muy bueno. Yo tengo un X-TERRA 705 y estoy muy contento con el. Lo único que le faltaria al X-TERRA es que alguien fabrique una caja ESTANCO para por lo menos lo haga resistente al agua !!!!! Eso seria perfecto !!!!! No con la idea de hacer buceo, solamente que uno pueda buscar en un río, lago, costa del mar, etc, sin la preocupación de que se arruine si cae al agua. Desde ya muchas gracias por tu tiempo y su video !!!!!! Te mando un gran abrazo desde Argentina !!!!!!

Jokes aside, it is really a very good detector. I have an X-TERRA 705 and I am very happy with it. The only thing the X-TERRA would lack is for someone to make a WATERTIGHT box to at least make it waterproof !!!!! That would be perfect !!!!! Not with the idea of diving, only that one can search in a river, lake, sea coast, etc., without the worry that it will be ruined if it falls into the water.
