Sodor Between the Lines - Episode 1: Small Beginnings

Welcome to My New Series, Sodor Between the Lines. This is a series that explains the roots of all the characters on the Island of Sodor.
Notes: Thomas is not an E2, but instead being a prototype for it built in early 1913. When finished the design was seen as too small and work on blueprints for an engine for a bigger scale were soon to be created, those being for the E2. Thomas was left unused after trial until being sent up for war. Thomas being an E2 has been perplexing fans for a while, as it is HUGE, even for a tank engine, and Thomas is not. However, Thomas overcoming his small size is a theme throughout the whole franchise, and so reflecting that, Thomas ends up being more useful than the engines who were bigger than him, as the E2’s were seen as pretty unsuccessful.

Gotta love a good story that invokes the feels. Edward: How do you feel? Thomas:.....big. Damn near brought a tear to my eye. The emotional weight behind that comment, the music swelling, and Edwards remark after the fact. Top notch, can't wait for more.

The interaction between Thomas and Edward is sweet and endearing. As Thomas tends to feel resentment towards bigger engines since they always talk highly of themselves and call him small, Edward, while being a bit bigger than Thomas, doesn’t belittle him. To which both respect each other

This hasn’t been tackled so well before! Great stuff even with the “small prototype” Thomas idea, you’ve still managed to stick to the IOS book and Reading Between the Lines descriptions. Keep it up!

Anyone else getting a sense that Thomas has a bit of an inferiority complex? I mean, it’s understandable. Seeing as, despite the fact his class is perfectly adequate locomotives, everyone drags on about how much of a disappointment they were. No wonder he gets so defensive at the slightest bit of criticism.

Pretty much yeah, the idea is that Thomas is Tired of being looked down on seeing as he was told he was too small and the E2’s were much bigger. Thomas ends up proving his usefulness in his book and the Irony is he lasts way longer then the E2’s ever did.

Wow. I just stumbled on this by chance and what an excellent, strong opening. I like the mix of RWS lore, some TV/CGI, and the few creative liberties to create this first meeting and acquiring of Thomas and Edward. Well done!

Wow! Terrific little episode! Or should I say big..haha. I loving seeing things like this, I know it IS the only first episode of this series but i can tell this is going to be big in the TTTE fandom! Can't wait to see more stories about the early days of Sodor!

Isn’t Thomas supposed to be the first engine? It’s not like it’s The adventure begins timeline. I guess it’s your own. Nice! I love this so much! Both characters are perfectly in character! I love how Thomas the tank engine got his name! If only The adventure begins was this good! This is stunning! You earn a subscriber!! Everything was stripped from The railway series! Phenomenal!!
