Hey everyone, I am thrilled to be watching the first movie in the John Wick franchise today, I have heard so many amazing things about it and I personally have been looking forward to this moment for a long time now. Thank you for coming along and seeing my reaction!
Legendary assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) retired from his violent career after marrying the love of his life. Her sudden death leaves John in deep mourning. When sadistic mobster Iosef Tarasov (Alfie Allen) and his thugs steal John's prized car and kill the puppy that was a last gift from his wife, John unleashes the remorseless killing machine within and seeks vengeance. Meanwhile, Iosef's father (Michael Nyqvist) -- John's former colleague -- puts a huge bounty on John's head.

The beautiful thing about when John is about enter the Red Circle and he lets Francis go, it's because Francis did him a favor. They're not actually talking about Francis losing weight. Francis using code to tell John how many guards are inside. That's why John lets him go. 😉

I love the chop shop scenes. If you look at the folks working there, they all react to what's going on. For example, when the guy pulls the gun on Aurelio, watch the guys in the back, they all pick up wrenches and other tools. That's why the other guy puts his hand on the gun to put it down... he realizes that getting out alive might require work. Also, when John walks into the chop shop, all the mechanics stop what they're doing and watch him because they know who he is and why he's there.

Just a note on Marcus taking the contract even though he's John's friend: before he accepts the contract, he asks if it's exclusive, meaning would other people also be trying to kill John. Only then does he accept, so that he can have a cover reason to be near John and protect him.

Absolutely love how John Wick was introduced. His backstory is left to the imaginations of the viewers, but we're given sprinklings of knowledge to know he is an unstoppable killer. And he's not completely without mercy; as long as you don't get in his way, he's willing to let you go, but his target is a dead man walking. I think there was supposed to be a deleted scene where a number of hit men and assassins turn down the $2,000,000 bounty on Wick; either out of fear, respect, or believing 2 million is not worth going after him. Don't know if you've ever seen The Dark Knight trilogy, but it seems like the took some aspects of Heath Ledger's Joker and put it into John Wick; from the well tailored suit, to the massive body count, to even killing people with a pencil.

John Wick is a masterpiece IMO. The set up, the mood, the soundtrack and how they built this parallel assassin's world so effortlessly. I love how they let you know who John is with little bits of background info. Not too much, not too little. And the action is awesome. Knowing that Keanu did most of it himself makes it even cooler and allows for longer shots and realism. I just love it. I can watch that movie another 100 times I think.

Keanu has trained with best competition shooters and he is now actually one of the best gun handlers there are in the country. There are lots of videos of him training and he is damn good!! Everything movement he makes is THE most economical and very much the proper way to do it in reality, not just the movie.

Great reaction all the way through. The beagle was a trained acting dog named Andy. After the movie, the beagle was given away to the trainer's friend and her children and was renamed Wick. It also got to come to the set of John Wick 3 for a visit. It didn't die in real life in case there was any question about that.

It should be noted that 1) the director, a former stuntman himself, had to fight to keep that scene in the movie; and 2) the actor whose character killed the dog was so sad after the scene that he played with it every chance he got.

Interesting is the lighting in the club. The lights are blue when John is on the hunt, green when there is no more thread, and red when he's in danger. The Francis conversation is pretty important too. It was not about his weight loss, it was a code. John actually asked him “how many are in there” and Francis told him “20 kilograms (20 guys)” in Russian. The 60pound subtitle is BS.

When Iosef was running from John in the Red Circle, and John was shooting the glass walls out, he missed Iosef on purpose. John is a predator, and he was playing with his kill, especially for what Iosef did to John's dog and car.

maybe. i always thought the thick glass deflected the bullets and iosef got lucky there..john was trying to kill him a few seconds before but the huge guy got in his way for a few seconds
@Pecos1

@@alinadornieden8411 the glass was thick, but certainly not bulletproof. For one the bullets went through each pane, and two, the shatter pattern on the glass is inconsistent with bulletproof glass. It is, however, consistent with safety glass.

@@alinadornieden8411 initially I thought the same, it was after rewatching it a few more times that I picked up on these things. Like any really great film, there are so many little things going on that you never catch them all the first time, and sometimes have to watch again multiple times to see all of them, or at least most of them.

@@Pecos1 yeah i mean not bulletproof. just a slight deflecting to miss iosef by a few centimeters maybe. i saw the scene 20+ times and its believable for me :)

They actually dragged the dog over to him. You can see by the angle in which the dog was laying next to him. If the dog had dragged itself over its head and snout would be facing John’s belly

Loved seeing your gleeful reaction to this! If you want more of the same, you ABSOLUTELY HAVE to see "The Raid" parts 1 and 2. The "final bosses" from each part team up against John Wick in part 3. Quite possibly the best action films ever made.

@@tfred4126 I don't think they're particularly underrated. Almost everyone that knows them, loves them. What they are is underseen. Then again, they're probably more seen than all other films from Indonesia put together. Plus, they've been a great calling card for most involved: Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian became the stunt coordinators for Star Wars, Gareth Evans went on to make Apostle and Gangs of London (though he deserves to be one of the biggest directors around) and Iko got his Netflix show, a steady stream of films and Night Comes for Us, another great actioner, alongside Joe Taslim, also from The Raid.

Keanu was professionally trained to shoot with different weapons by Taran Tactical so he really developed this skills, they also went for the realism to the point of counting the bullets and reload so it is accurete, they created very detailed underworld that gets revealed more and more in each movie with it`s rules like Continental being safe grounds and the place the coins take etc so you don`t just watch for the action but to understand the world they are in. Markus couldn`t say no because for sure he would`ve been shot so he doesn`t contact John

The coins have no monetary value, though I think melting them down would bring in cash. But only the underground crime syndicates put value into the coins. Only they use them as a currency of sorts. That’s why one body equals one coin and entry into a bar/night club cost one coin. Bottom line, one coin doesn’t amount to a fixed amount.

A fun Lucas film that's underrated is Strange Magic. It's great as long as you like hippy music and fae folk. The series he's most known for is Star Wars, but he's also known for the Land Before Time movies as well you might like

Viggo said, when John Wick wanted out, he gave him an "impossible" task. And, "The bodies he buried that day - laid the foundation for what we are today." THAT'S why John burns up Viggo's stash in the church. It's also why John goes on a warpath, killing Viggo's men, & any other's responding to the contract on John. Because he wanted out. He got out. So he wasn't interested in what that life has to offer. And then he got dragged back in, by none other than Viggo's son, whom Viggo did not raise to fear or respect anyone, & did not teach him about the legacy of John, who helped build Viggo's empire. John could justifiably destroy Viggo's empire, because he built it. He's not interested in keeping ANYTHING of Viggo's, & not in it for greed, or to hold anything over any bodies head like Viggo. About Perkins, membership revoked by thine own hands, because she broke the rules by "trying to kill John", & successfully killed the black guy, after John spared her, & whom she was not even contracted to kill.
