I love the interplay between piano, bass, and drums in "Gesolreut" during Tippett's solo. Excellent jazz. RIP Marshall and Tippett, thank you for the fantastic music

Babbington is simply great. He's my favorite current member, then Marshall, who is always amazing, then Etheridge, who is best when he isn't too flashy, then it all pops with Travis, who rangles in Dean and Dobson quite nicely with his own brand of finger magic. To include Tippett gives it that Machine oomph. Well played.

Whatever you may feel about this combination of players just say "thank god we got this on film". And say what you like, it takes real nerve to try out Facelift without Ratletge's organ.

Rude. Particularly as KT's first contribution is to play Karl Jenkins' robotic keyboard part on 'Song of Aeolus' - which is about as far from Tippett's own music as one could imagine. 'The music', if by that you mean Tippett, starts at 34:05, when the band depart violently in Tippett's direction for the first time. But it isn't necessary to put down the other musicians.

Interesting performance. Before Tippett's entrance at 30:00, the band - which isn't Soft Machine, in any real sense - sounds like a real band, for once, with some kick and drive. Tippett is Tippett, and frankly a different class of musician. Trying to integrate him into this rather pedestrian band without allowing him to lead it is a strange endeavour. Ironically, he's the only one who channels something of the original exploratory spirit of the Soft Machine, rather than alternating between stiff homage and technical display.

Unique performance, brilliant musicians and KT as guest is a gift. You think they’ve should been take another name?
@innocentoctaveАй бұрын
@@xergioka That would have been my preference. Unfortunately, the name 'Soft Machine' had commercial value: I can't blame them for wanting to work.
