I think you can get various kinds of looks with soft pastels, soft or sharp, depending on the technique. Some soft pastels are harder and you can easily get fine lines with them. It's very interesting.

@@hambot I would love to see you have a go at it. Your pastels artworks have been amazing. It would be a good idea to get a harder pastels like Rembrandt or Faber-Castell, but those can be expensive. I heard Mungyo semi-hard and extra fine are comparable at a lower price.

You did such a good job! Instead of coloured pencils, try some pastel pencils. They don't cut through the layers and have a very similar look to the softer pastels so don't stand out so much. Also, when framing, use a double mount with a 'pastel trap' or 'gutter' between them. This is simply a narrow space between the two sheets of matting/mountboard, so that any fall off you get from the pastels will go down between, rather than sit on top of the bevel of the mount. But there'll always be some fall-off, even if you spray it.

@@hambot The Stabilo Carbothello pastel pencils are a great choice, and not over-priced. They're a little harder than others so hold their point well. Faber Castell may well be cheaper in Germany than here in the UK. Carbothello are cheapest of the pro level pencils.

It turned out so beautiful! Have you ever tried pan pastels? I’ve seen some videos on it and they look super satisfying with the little brushes and sponges you can use.

This is absolutely beautiful! I love how you captured atmosphere. If I may suggest a paper that doesn't require fixing in between layers so no warping is a paper called Pastelmat. It's the best pairing with soft pastels. There's a bit of learning curve to using it but it's worth it with the amount of layers it takes. It's personal preference though, I just thought to share since you care to be so generous in sharing yourself 😀 For this being your second piece, it is really impressive! Stay inspired 💃

i have soft pastel but never used since past 5 years. tried few times, but it didnt spread good enough. or the pastel are so thick then how to do fine details like eyes n other things with the thick pastel? the brand i have is camel soft pastel 20 shades
