It'll work well enough. If you're dropping straight down or not casting far I reckon the hidden weight system jigs in a 1/12 on a 2.5" grubz is the way to go, if you can find them - they can be a bit hard to get around where I am. I wasn't having much luck at all until I down sized my jigs from 1/8 to 1/12 or 1/16, and then it all started happening :) It's amazing how much difference such a small change in jigs made to my results. I'm no expert of course, so see how you go. By the way - I'm not associated with Zman/TT. I use all brands (including cheap off-brands), and generally have similar results. I like the ZMan plastics because of how long they last, but they're a PITA the rig sometimes, particularly on a kayak. I usually pre-rig a bunch of ZMan lures before I go, but when I'm on the water, I use old Squidgies plastics, because the plastic is kinda crap and they go on to jigs with no fuss. They don't last long though.

I use both S-Factor and Pro-Cure, and I've been keeping track of the catches, and so far I've found Pro-cure to be a little bit better - 58% of my catches have been on pro-cure (adjusted for usage). However I think I prefer s-factor because it's easier to use, seems to stay on the lure better, and doesn't smell on your hands. Pro-cure probably works better specifically because it is so much stinkier.

Depends on water clarity on matching your plastic to that

Hey T S, the shallow and deep sections will vary across different systems and current can also dictate head weights a little, however I generally refer to shallow water as less than 5 foot and it often entails the areas around mangrove edges, flats and the edges of rock walls, etc., stepping into deeper water as you go beyond this and it can often be time to start moving toward a 1/12 and even 1/8oz jighead for deeper flats and drop offs. Once you hit the main channels, seaway and river entries, etc. in 10 foot plus of water and especially with more current anglers will run a lot of 1/8oz, 1/6oz and even 1/4oz for bream. It's a matter of feeling it out a little for different systems, however this is a basic guide. All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin

Good sport fish

Hey Peter, they are readily available, can be caught from a boat, kayak, land based, etc., eat lures and are great fun on light line. They are a great starting point for anglers and at the highest level in a tournament with 100 boats can be pretty tough to catch with plenty of high level techniques and ultralight gear employed to get a fish in the live well. Each to their own though and there's plenty of variety out there for anglers to chase. Cheers, Justin
