Softube has released an impressive set of tools. Are they right for you?
Watch this video to learn more about "Console 1" and "Fader 1". Two hardware units that control the Console 1 Plug-in.
What is the point of buying hardware that controls software? Workflow.
These units give you the opportunity to stop looking at the screen and "experience" your Music as opposed to watch it.
Mixing becomes physical again (as it was in the console days) and now with Layers a.k.a VCA Groups, this is more true than ever.
For those of you that already own a unit, Eddie Grey goes over setting up the Console 1 in Logic Pro.
Learn about the Pros and Cons of owning the Console 1 Mixing System now!

Guys, C1 and F1 are FULLY integrated in Studio One. PHENOMENAL combination. Best I’ve ever used in a DAW environment.

Ya' gotta love S-1! It plays nice with everybody and supported C-1 right away. Too bad Console One doesn't return the favor and let us load Fat Channel components into it like they do with UA Apollo central.

14:50 It's true that you have to commit to the Softube ecosystem once you invest in the unit. It is possible to map 3rd party plugins to the unit in Midi Mode. It's a little time-consuming but at least the 3rd party are still usable and the money you spent isn't a waste .

But at the same time what’s wrong with the commitment? I mean this unit has 7 different consoles!!! I mean what more would we need…. I mean they have great software….. using this unit with 7 console options along with the drive and character setting is like the ultimate unit….. if your not greedy then this unit would be your finale purchase…..lol everything you will ever need as a channel strip is here….

I've been using C1 for almost 8 years. I'm just using the regular knob unit and not the faders but there are a number of great things about it and a few not at all great things. Mostly, I use it in Reaper and I've customized Reaper so when I instantiate a new track, a C1 plugin automatically is on the track. This makes it easy to expand your mixer without any mouse clicks or nonsense. All in all C1 did several things for my mixing, best of which was make mixing faster with fewer issues. It allows me to use fewer plugins and honestly has made a lot of my plugins obsolete or at least, left them unused for years. I'm fine with the stock SSL4000 strip and the newest updates have 3 different "drive" flavors instead of just the SSL one. But I always say, if you can't mix a record on a 4000E, you can't mix a record. Overall, I love it and I'll keep using it. However, there are a few issues that I do not like. Mostly, the OSD window display being VERY taxing on CPU even if you have onboard GPU's. Sure, I could upgrade my MacBook which is getting older but with only 30 or so tracks, when I'm making adjustments and the window pops up, if there is any RTA display, the audio craps out and CPU overloads. So I'll often mix with the window mode off and just use my ears and just look at the controller if I need to see but I've memorized the layout of the controller by feel so I can usually mix okay without any visual aid. Ultimately that's the thing about this controller system is that you should be mixing more with your ears. That also relates to the other thing I don't like and that's the lag between actually hearing the change you made and turning the knobs. That seems to have gotten worse with the newest updates as well as the OSD window lag and CPU usage. Overall, I'm happy using it but I may need to upgrade to a much faster computer to get the most out of it at this stage.

Eddie, does the console 1 fader change audio on the fader level by moving the audio faders in logic, or does it use insert points? Thanks.

These are certainly motorize feeders but unfortunately LogicPro does not support this kind of flexibility. It will respond to automation but only within the console one plug-in that is used to control the hardware. 👍👍👍

Great Video, Eddie! I'm still learning the unit and find it to be enjoyable. The one issue I'm figuring out is the EQ system. There isn't an option for full parametric EQ.
@_TheModernCreative
@_TheModernCreative Жыл бұрын
Appreciate you @LDEPOV. Are you referring to a semi-parametric EQ like PulTec/Neve/API? If you own UAD plug-ins, you can def get into that kind of thing. Let me know if you do and I am happy to get you to Apollo Central Mode.

@@_TheModernCreative Hi, I was referring to the Q-Factor. I'm looking for an option to narrow the bandwidth to target pacific frequency; instead of using the mouse. I will look into your advice. Right now, I own a lot of Waves Plug-ins.
@_TheModernCreative
@_TheModernCreative Жыл бұрын
They def have Q-factor on their EQ’s. If you have not found it LMK. Something to point out is that the EQ extended options only come with the Console 1 and not the Fader one. The latter can only low and high cut along with add drive/character and control send 1-3 in Logic Pro. Hope this helps mate.

What did you mean, about the sends not working in Logic Pro? Can you automate the fader volume ?
@_TheModernCreative

In studio one you are able to control send one - three using the Fader one. You cannot do that in Logic Pro and pro tools. You can certainly automate the Fader volume.

@@_TheModernCreative Thank you. My Point is, I‘m using Pro Tools and the Apollo Universe. But I do a lot more Tracking than Mixing and want be able to Control UAs Console, especially for controlling PlugIns and setting up Cue Mixes. The other option, SSLs UC1 and UF8 are perfect for Pro Tools, but cant Control UA Console and UA PlugIns. So its a hard decision :)

Unless I missed it, I don’t believe so. This is based on Console update v2.5.24. It’s fairly limited in Logic. On Studio 1, it’s savage.

I just purchased the console 1 and console 1 fader, if the fader does not control the audio faders in logic,... should I return the console 1 fader? Do you think it will ever work with logic? Is it possible to program the console faders to see logic faders with midi or control surface assignments? Thanks
@_TheModernCreative
@_TheModernCreative 2 жыл бұрын
They are not supposed to in Logic Pro. I do not think there will ever be support for Logic Pro in this capacity. You can certainly use the faders and teach them to learn the volume channel strip parameters but it kind of defeats the purpose and are better off with something like the launch control XL. Hope that helps.

@@_TheModernCreative I do already an AVID mix control that works well for fader volume . Also I use 2 UA Apollo units, is there any reason for me to keep the Softube Console fader?? does it do any thing with the console 1 that would be helpful to me? Does it work with Luna? controlling fader volume ? Thanks for all your help, let em know your fees to talk one on one, if that is something you do. Again I am getting the two units from Sweetwater today and will keep the console 1 fader if it does some thing I need. I see you use logic and have both the console 1 and console 1 fader, correct. Why do you need the console 1 fader? Thanks again.

you might want to look into the Behringer xtouch or touch extender by itself. its a pretty straightforward motorized fader system that follows logic. I have two units side by side for 16 tracks of automation. the x touch (regular main unit) has a LOT of functionality buttons which DONT all work in logic, but I use my iPad with logic remote from most of that. Logic remote is one of the most under rated workflows. Anyway, I returned the x touch main unit and bought a few extenders. nice having a scribble strip with my track names.

@@_TheModernCreative AU is limited in control options for Console to work in Logic. VST3 allows coding so console one will work in DAWs that accept vst3. Logic will most likely never add a vst3 option.
