With Lemmy, as with everyone. The best example I can think of was John Entwistle. The Ox constantly changed his basses and equipment, always seeking to further refine his tone as he imagined it. But no matter what he used, Entwistle sounded like himself. Jaco played a fretless Jazz that Fender now offers a replica of from their Custom Shop... But owning one doesn't make you play like Jaco. There are many signature models of guitars and basses but you'll wind up sounding like yourself in the end. Lemmy played loud and with attitude! There, that's the Lemmy tone!

@@paulsimmons5726 Yea I totally agree. Honestly Lem and Entwistle have VERY similar styles... one of John's roadies said the who was really two guitarists and a drummer lol. Lem and John are very similar because they're both guitarists first who later on picked up the bass and they both played the bass like a guitar.. from their chord progressions and having loud turned up walls of full stacks. John played both finger plucking and with a pick even though Lem played with a pick all the time. I love John's nonchalant style and approach to his playing. Pulling off crazy licks while looking like he was bored. If you get a chance you should check out his documentary, "John Entwistle: An Ox's Tale" such an awesome documentary on him.

@@eldiablo3794 I own it along with Thunderfingers and the JEB Live. I saw the JEB in Cincinnati in the mid-90's... Fastest right hand in the business! I miss both of these guys, pure attitude and fearlessness!

I never really got into his solo stuff but I do watch a concert of him as a solo artist With his band the concerts from like 1999 and he plays that crazy buzzer bass and his tone is insane during that performance. He even had some weird drop tuning lever that was on his headstock he used to make weird noises with.

Read his book. He just oozes good vibes. He has made so many mistakes in his earlier life that he is obviously genuinely happy and thankful to have had a second chance in life.

I just noticed this myself! They would've had their Orgasmatron/Rock N Roll line up most likely, so yeah Phil Campbell was definitely there but it would've been either Pete Gill or most likely Philthy Animal Taylor at that point. Guess Wurzel was out for a drink lol

The late Mark Lanegan from the screaming trees was asked in an interview when he completed rehab how did he get back up on his feet and he replied when he got to his apartment with zero $ to his name Duff was there waiting for him and asked Mark if he could please look after his house as his never there because his mostly on the road. Mark was very grateful and said thank you and Duff replied back no thank you, you're really helping me out. This was all said without Duff mentioning Marks rehab, drugs, money, rent he knew very well his friend needed a helping hand and what it's like to battle addiction.

The Green Giant used Peavey Solid State Amps and some fx, most highend plugins are oriented to tube amps, Peavey had some solid state gems back in the day i hope they do them justice like they did with their tube ones on the Revalver plugin

Yup, the unjolly green giant used Peavey poweramps and 1820 cabs. His effects were just a few basic Boss pedals. Like Lemmy it was a lot to do with how he played rather than with what, although the prototype Fernandes sustainer was important.

In 87 Duff wouldn't even remember anything, he probably dreamed the whole thing...Pete Gill was the drummer at the time and Micky Dee was in King Diamond!

Hey Mario. Great post. I lost my Motörhead virginity, and had my eardrums perforated, in March 1979 at The Apollo in Glasgow. Overkill tour. Still have the merch; programme and badges. The tour t-shirt long gone. Saw them in Glasgow and Edinburgh every tour until the early nineties. Eagle is from my home town, and occasionally drank in my then local, the John D. He’d bashfully on occasion talk of the tours. And the great man himself. Incredible times, amazing music and wonderful people.

Because most Bass players are not looking for Lemmys sound Lemmy was basically playing rhythm guitar on the Bass and using a Marshall guitar amp.

It’s not really bass as much as it was rhythm guitar. not many bass guys will get hired with that tone lol. just part of Lemmy’s legend

A lot of the reason is that guitar amps (and also their speakers) tend to roll off frequencies 80Hz and below. This will give a nice midrange punch, but not a whole lot of deep bass. A proper bass amp will have the low side of the eq tuned to around 30-40Hz and will typically use speakers that can reproduce those frequencies with some authority. That caters to the traditional role of a bass much better than a typical guitar rig.

Lemmy is the godfather of rhythm bass - usually covering most of the frequencies a rhythm guitarist would even when Motorhead had two guitarists!

That's so true. When this smuck was alive nobody gave a good God damn about his lousy bass playing and now he's dead ...he's the greatest player that ever lived and everyone wants to sound like him

Actually, the typical bassist plays 12”s. And while it’s true that Ampeg SVT’s are a legendary sound and also commonly used amongst professional touring/recording bassists, most average gigging bass players use 12”s as they are more portable and full sounding.

I met Lemmy, he was a really nice dude. A few friends worked with him and said he was cool. Lemmy's tone sounds awful in isolation but that's not what it's about. Like most bassists, his tone is all about how it interacts with the guitar and drums. The overall sound of the band is all that matters and Motorheads sound is the reason they were huge and almost every metal musician mentions Motorhead as a big influence. Motorhead and Sabbath are the root of all metal.

From what I've seen & heard he was a kind, fun loving, intelligent, confident, self-aware individual who really cared about his art and those that support it.

lol @ arsehole, Lemmy was the most approachable guy in rock until they went huge. in the late 70's early 80's you could easily get backstage and eat his food. even when they went huge and you met him in a bar you could buy a drink and talk to him.

So why do you seek his tone through this video? the man influenced more, than you have had Soy based meals...
