Hello everyone! Many comments are asking why I'm not subscribed to Let's Game It Out ---- I AM. I'm not signed in to YT in this reaction (look at the top right corner). I actually subscribed to LGIO during another video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d-BzZrqb2dTNqHU.html It doesn't hurt to ask again, though so please go to LGIO's video and subscribe if you haven't already (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jp1ngKuFtKvbiKM.html)! Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed the reaction! It was fun to make 😁

on performance: and belts - This world here is used by CSS to test their performance! :) The belts were indead the problem, each item on the belt was its own render. After this Ben (the Techincal Artist) created a new conveyor render system that turns each segment of belt into a single moving render rather than individual items, and cheats the items. Its awesome! Ben also is responsible for the psuedo lights that work and look pretty good but are not going to destroy the performance of the game, by cheating using a cone that applies a texture. There are a couple of dev vlogs on the CSS channel where he talks about how he did them!
@Krakenfall
@Krakenfall Жыл бұрын
Oh! Thank you for the real explanation! Ill have to go watch the dev logs eventually
@ShiningDarknes
@ShiningDarknes Жыл бұрын
Fun fact: this rendering "cheat" is also why Josh is the only own to have that crazy "glitchy" texture happen (you know it if you have seen the video) because some of the items were still there and rendered so the "fake" item renders overlap the real items that have not made it through yet.

LGIO basically became the performance tester for Satisfactory from this point onward. I remember one point he went something like "So they did an update and now I can look at the tornado without the performance dying." Yep, they would have had to use a profiler to check it out and see what the problems are. I have a feeling that doing some heavy loss of detail stuff, as well as minimising any data on the iron rods themselves and optimising the way conveyor belts work

One thing I've seen in my own playtime of satisfactory is that once you get a certain distance from an item, it's frame rate gets limited. So if you're far off from an item on a belt, but can still see it, it's only moving at like 1 FPS. I'm sure distant objects get other under the hood calculations to have cut corners too.

4:31 If you want the game to force you to optimize things, you can try Factorio instead (idk if someone suggested this to you). It's true that Satisfactory isn't about efficiency as the game can't punish you for building crappy bases like Josh did. You have the third dimension where you can always run as much belts as you want on different altitudes and stuff as much buildings as you want. So the desire to optimize is more about personal convenience and your personal views on aesthetics. Factorio has more to do with optimization because it's a 2D game, and you have only two layers (ground and underground) to route the belts. So when you are building a spaghetti-like base in Factorio, the game will punish you :) There are some problems: - it's a 2D game, so visually it's much worse compared to Factorio; (fix: to Satisfactory) - both games have different core gameplay features (so you may not like it even if you like SF).
@lyven9872
@lyven9872 Жыл бұрын
Furthermore, factorio’s combat system is also more emphasized compared to satisfactory. It has mechanics that punishes you if you’re not making the most of your time (though it is still forgiving especially since it’s editable). Either way, it’s a nice game and i hope i get to watch him play the game someday.
@irrelevant_noob
@irrelevant_noob Жыл бұрын
Although since the factorio map is infinite, there's always more space around... I don't feel any pressure to optimize in there either, the only issue i have is with enemy evolution that i can't bypass (on default, since Lyven is right, i sometimes crank it down some) even if i pollute as little as possible. :-
@snarkysnarksson3002
@snarkysnarksson3002 Жыл бұрын
@@irrelevant_noob Well, technically yes. After you learn how to build bus-based factories and take enough space from aliens, the problem of optimization becomes irrelevant. But in my first playthrough i've built some crappy shit instead a normal base, and couldn't get nice technology, because base configuration was against my idea of extending the design :) Also when bases become efficient, you can always try a death world mode :)

At some point you should definitely watch some ImKibitz Satisfactory vids as well. He does some temporary spaghetti when starting some builds and laying out a concept, but he pretty much always cleans it up. He's pretty much opposite of LGIO's style, clean lines and well organized/optimized builds. Hard to suggest a particular vid since he has so many, maybe one of the world tour/recap vids he's done from previous updates or the recap for his current playthrough.

Me and my cousin are playing it as well, we built a Megafactory right around T3. You don´t actually have to rebuild, just put your Factory on stilts, right above what you have already built. Get it ready to produce, then take the conveyors off the Miners, and connect them to your Factory. Put conveyors from all the stuff that you already produce into the factory as well, and let that run dry, afterwards simply remove the old setup. Also: Don´t forget to put an extra story underneath each Level of the Factory, that way you can easily put conveyors down there, get the amterials to where they need to be, then use conveyor elevators to get them to the next level. Put a Logistic level above that and store/transport parts for the next level etc etc etc. Just make sure you got plenty of space, the higher levels will be more empty than the very first one, where ore is smelted and such, but you can just reverse the layout if you run out of space to expand the lower level or move it higher up, it´s really convenient. And DONT FORGET TO PUT A STOREHOUSE somewhere, where you collect some of all the materials for easy access, or else you´re gonna go looking for them everytime, running a marathon.

Loving those reactions! If you want to know more about make-factory games optimization, a good place to get some information is from the King: Factorio. To be precise, a series called Friday Facts by the Factorio devs. It may not be that relevant to the FP 3D game as Satisfactory in terms of rendering, but in terms of logic you can learn a lot! I honestly recomennd it, it's a good read.

9:55 The performance of Josh's world around the conveyor tornado does improve in his later videos, presumably as Coffee Stain optimise the game. I've heard people say that Coffee Stain actually used Josh's save to test performance optimisations, though I don't know if it's true. But it's worth noting that unlike most games where performance is almost entirely GPU bound, the factory simulation (conveyor belts passing items to the next belt, buildings calculating recipes, etc) is CPU bound, and always running all buildings/pipes/belts in your game world at all times. It has to, so that parts of your factory don't shut down just because they are too far away from you. One of my factories depends on resources shipped by train from another factory almost on the opposite side of the map (6.6km as the crow flies) So the larger your factory gets, the harder your PC has to work ro run it, irrespective of which bits of it are being rendered to your screen. My previous PC (i5 7600k and GTX 1070) began to get stuttery as I approached late game (save file size 6MB). So even if Josh is at the other side of the world and the conveyor tornado is not being visually rendered, the movement of items along the tornado is still being calculated on the CPU.

If you look at the space elevator, way far up you'll see the delivery platform for products you load up into space. I've seen builds that built higher than that. As an interesting side note, Coffee Stain has loaded some of Josh's saves PRECISELY to work on performance issues, and in a later video of his, they even fix the frame rate issue with his tornado so he can look at it. Those crash sites are just supply pods. When you land they tell you that you're the only who survived

I mean, were talking about a guy that blew up a big chunk of a planet away... So yeah, when LGIO says he might need to get rid of it, You know its bad. (Newest Hydroneer episode... please react to it. It shows Lets Game It Out's abilities to play games for a long time.)

I just recently started playing Satisfactoty, so , I fell off a walkway in the sky I was building when I took my hand off my mouse to scratch my face. When I came back to pick up all my items, I ran into one of the bigger boss forms of the 'speedy pigs'. Long story short, I died six time in the same spot trying to recover my stuff. It hurt my soul soo much. I think I lost a year off my life from a blood pressure spike. Final got my stuff, got back to base, and ended my session. I now need a little break from the game.

About the profiler, I remember playing Dyson Sphere Program at some point, and it has a built-in profiler showing all the performance info like compute time, latency, etc. Pretty neat. Also reminds me of profiling and optimizing some CUDA stuff years back, nightmares.

15:30 There is a waterfall at a very distant location on the map, where you can get into and find uranium. But when you go further into the cave, there is a space where you can go into the void. So I built a floor and made a huge storage under the map, which is pretty cool.

I hope you will watch some amazing beautys of builds a bit later. There are very talented people doing stuff i could never imaging myself :D. For example the Eden Project in satisfactory is amazing.

You can build in the void. I have build my entire nuclear facility under the map, just above the kill barrier. Keeps the map radiation free. And needless to say, the place is huge. It has to be to support all those machines

I like that idea, I may copy you. I am aiming to keep the nature of the planet mostly untouched (I'm really glad to be on coal finally. Hopefully they don't implement global warming lol)

You should do a reaction to all the official Satisfactory update videos. Not only will that give you a better idea of the journey the game has been through, they're also really good and fun in their own right.

You don't need to be sorry, everyone needs to rebuild their first base at least once. Rule is, if you think you planned for enough space, still double that.

Kraken- "wonder if you can build in the void above the kill line." Well Lets game it out has already released a video messing with it.

LGIO didn't come anywhere close to the build limit on his video. Long before you hit the point where the game starts damaging you for being close to the limit, there's this fog blocking your vision. And the game will insta-kill the player long before it blocks you from building out.

Not sure if it’s the kind of thing you’d react to on the channel, but for the Spiffing Brit, his Skyrim videos are great examples of his “perfectly balanced” exploits

I believe that a community manager for CSS stated that LGiO has helped drive performance enhancements. These early videos are fun but as you noticed, they have instituted many Quality of Life updates since that make it not nearly as difficult as it was (though in some ways more balanced: I.e. requiring water for coal; which by the way, "Pipes" aka fluid dynamics was a surprise update the community wanted but CSS intentionally mislead us into thinking wasn't going to happen.) I'm Kibitz has some neat builds but he's more on min/max efficiency, and aesthetics. My one recommendation to you: get used to using stackable conveyor poles sooner vs later. They truly help.

if you dont have the rebar gun yet or the truck a good way to deal with the fire shooters is to run circles around them... theyll still hit you on occasion but for the most part you can get em killed if your lucky by just running circles around em and hitting them with your zapper

I play with my friend and he does what you do, just keep going forward and forward, while I'm the efficiency type so he'll be out getting the next tier and I'll be ripping out my hair cleaning up the mess he's made and when he comes back its a new base
