ඔයා කියන කතාව 100% ක් ඇත්ත අයියෙ. ගොඩක් අය මේ field එකට එන්නෙ සල්ලි වලට/ ගෙදර අයගෙ කීමට/ රැල්ලට. හැබැයි survive වෙන්නෙ field එකට ඇත්තටම ආදරේ කරන, technology එක ගැන මාර උනන්දුවකින් ඉන්න අය විතරයි. (Degree තිබුණා හෝ නැතා)

I've been in this industry more than 15 years now. Layoff already started in many companies in Sri Lanka. This will get worst in upcoming months. If US economy recovers from recession it will be a boost for IT inductry. But AI challange is the biggest challenge for SEs now.

It is not only in SL. My friends in USA, Canada, Australia, UAE, Singapore All said there are massive layoffs, it will be few hard 5,6 years for SE people

Same in Germany. The Recession is not over, it’s slowly getting stabilized, so the layoffs will eventually reduce.

Software Engineering degree වලට ලොකුවට නියාමනයක් අවශ්‍ය වෙන්නේ නැත්තේ, හරියට වැඩ බැරි අයව ඉබේම කැපෙන නිසා. ඒක ඉතිං private ද government ද කියලා අදාල නෑ. වැඩ බැරි අය ඕනේ තරම් ඉන්නවා 😅 Doctors ලා වගේ කෙලින්ම ජීවිත වලට හානියක් නැති නිසා, අවුල් කට්ටියව මුල් කාලෙම කැපෙන නිසා ඕක ලොකු ප්‍රශ්නයක් නැහැ.

දැන් නම් ලංකාවේ IT company වලටත් ඉන්දියන් අයගේ වසංගතයක් ඇවිල්ලා. අපේ company යට remote වැඩකරන ඉන්දියන් සෙට් එකක් ඇවිල්ලා ඒ අය ලංකාවේ සාමාන්‍ය salary එක වගේ තුන්ගුණයක් විතර අඩුවෙන් ගන්නේ. ඒක නිසා company වලට ලාබ නිසා ලංකාවේ ළමයින්ට jobs තියා internship වත් නැති වෙලා තියෙන්නේ.

Understandable but there's this thing.. I study at IIT and they used to take a very few people for the degree program back in the day. few hundreds if I'm not wrong. But now the student just for an intake is above 1800. Similarly, the other unis also has increased the amount of students they intake drastically. So, in addition to Covid, economic issues, I feel like this is a main reason for people to say this.

But, the number of opportunities also used to grow drastically. It reduced a bit due to the reasons I mentioned, but hopefully it will get better. However, people with skills don’t have to worry 😉

People want more entertainment on their workplace, gifts, parties, survive with help of a senior. But some of them don't try to improve their skills. Don't try to come to the industry if you don't like coding, fixing issues and can't do research. Also try to learn marketing and project management as well. May be you will be able to develop your own software and market it and get rid of your job.
