That Tomcat looks really neat. You can tell how buttery smooth it is even in the video. Nice collection, Tac!

Nice collection, great video too. I have several SOG, but my favorite is my 25 year old seal team knife, made in Seki-Japan, super quality back then. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to more videos.

Your review of SOG was right on when it comes to their price tier quality. Those jungle primitive blades can snap easily with some heavy chopping in cold weather. The last couple folders were very nice.

My EDC is a SOG Fielder mini and I love it. Its only $15, but feels very solid and well done for that price. It came very sharp, and I love the look of it. (I have the one with the wooden scales on it.) Although I haven't done any abusive work with it, I do recommend it for anyone looking for a small, low price EDC for simple tasks. :)

Ever used the long discontinued X42 Recondo fixed blade... circa 2001? It was made from BG42 ball-bearing steel. I own 6 of them. The grip contour absolutely melts into your hand. It has a very limited purpose, though. Simply put, it is a killing blade. Modified tanto style blade. If you stare at it too hard, it will slice your eyeball. It was made in the SOG era when they were a high-end company; before the change in leadership and direction towards the cheap Chinese stuff. Back then, they were made in Seki, Japan or here in the USA. If you haven't heard of the Recondo, it is definitely worth a Google for a blade fanatic.

Sog and CRKT were the brands that introduced me to a better quality of knife.....i still wasn't spending more than $100 on any one knife but i soon began looking up video reviews on the knives i had and became curious about what else was available.....i've been collecting for 6 years now, folders primarily...and i'm just starting to grow a collection of fixed blades....in the mail today, i received my recently purchased Sog Recon Bowie....not the current production model with the kraton handle....it's the 20th anniversary blued SK5 steel blade, brass cross guard, and stacked leather ring handle....it might be the most beautiful knife i've ever seen....it was made in Seki City Japan, and i'm going to start hunting down more Seki made Sogs.....you are absolutely right about the sub $50-$60 knives Sog makes....i LOVED my Flash 2s and Aegis and Tridents when i got them ...a long time ago....now i have a better appreciation of what a quality knife should be...the more expensive folders from Seki City like the Tomcat 3.0, Visionary 2 and Spec Elite can stand toe to toe with any Benchmade or Spyderco and have a permanent place in my Sog collection...i might pick up some of the Architect series folder but i FOR SURE will be keeping an eye out for the Seki fixed blades made in the early 2000s......great vid

I've got a SCUBA/DEMO and a S1 Bowie both made in Seki Japan
@michaelbonade46678 жыл бұрын
sweet.....i passed on a S1 a while back...not realizing it was a Seki produced model.....i love the fact that SOG spec'd the SK5 steel on some of the first knives, very similar to the Vietnam era originals...i'll have to wait for the next one.....as for SOG's current models , i'd like to see some knives offered in ATS-34.....some kind of upgrade in the steel....so many people like the designs...they just want a little bump up in materials....

Solid collection. I completely understand having doubles of some knives. I was a huge fan of SOG in the late 90's and have doubles of some of the originals including the partially serrated Tsunami. SOG eventually fell off the map for a while but they are coming back strong with some new models, especially in folders which I was never interested in from SOG in the past, minus The Tomcat-that knife is the shit. The original Seal Team series is still one of my favorite lines of knives and some will always remain in mind condition within my collection along with the original Northwest Ranger. Their ergonomics and blade geometry of these knives are still some of the best. Imagine the original series having all the same aesthetics and blade geometry but with M4, S35VN, S90V, CPM 20CV, or M390 steel.....take my money $$$.

You're not alone Tac, I can't help but buy 2 (or 3) of my favorites as well. I get one I really like then I buy another to keep new in box, then one goes on sale in a different variation and I grab it... The VG10 made in Japan SOG folders seem like winners, I have them on my radar...

I like the look of that fixed blade tanto(Vulcan) as well as the flipping Vulcan. Its been discontinued and it's a present from your mum so don't brake it but I wold like a closer look at them. And the last folder looks amassing but It costs a bit moor than I wold wont to pay for a knife. But if I wont to get a SOG I should get a moor expensive one. Thanks for the tip!

Although sog looks good as you said they are really a hit or miss. Your tomahawk testing video comes to mind. You said how they are made to do all those things and theoretically yes, but I see that one as a more durable and better version of the wooden ones specifically made for throwing rather than chopping. A great video as always and can't wait to see what else your doing.

Sweet video, likey da Sogs. Actually, I'm with you about the new Sogs, no likey, but the older Sogs are sick and solid. The Seal Pup is one of my favorites. Been just starting to get into knives over the last year or so, and have been looking at lots of your videos with interest. Very helpful, cool, and keep my attention. Well done! Ok, so I bought one knife - I wanted a fixed blade for my first - and got the SOG Tech Bowie several months ago. That was before I found your channel. I'm curious what you think about it. Next I turn my attention to folders and will eventually get a SOG Tomcat and probably add the SOG Mini Vulcan. Anyway, any thoughts on the Tech Bowie? I'm sorta surprised you didn't have one in this clip. Just wondering. And again, great job and keep going!

By the way, AUS8 is a A.I.S.I. equivalent to the 440 and Randall Made uses it in some of tgeir Stainless Steel Knives, Although when I ordered my Model #18, they told me they got a good price on the 440C so my blade on my #18 is 440C, Like they say, even a blind pig finds a hole every once in a while, Yeah, I got lucky, I had the handle knurled and the Hilt and Cap in Brass, a very beautiful combination, Oh, and it's in the Attack Style, Yeah one of my Fav's Hollow Handle Survival Knives I would actually trust, They silver solder them together, and the result is almost a solid one piece knife. They do a great job at Randall Made Knives, , , all my Other Randall's are in O1, like my Attack Model #14 Attack which I have a one finger groove handle on it, sick,( prolly the strongest knife they make) and other's, , ,

Say Heah Tac'ie My People. I think you should mention S. O G. Does use alot of AUS8a's, But they Cryo Temper them. That's what bring's the cost up, But we'll worth it what it does to the AUS8a. I have a Seal Put Elite TiNI, and mine hold's a pretty decent edge retention. So I got the Trident 2.0 Fix Blade a 6"+ blade with micarta stack handle and white spacer's with a leather sheath, It has the Double Camel Back blade style in AUS8a. it's stay's pretty sharp. S. O. G. hit it big in Vietnam with some Special Forces, I had a Tunnel Rat friend that used a S.O.G because of his size, He went into tunnel's for some hand to hand. Tough kid he was.,,.
