I agree, he has so much flow and brings out all of the special melodic notes. Also really like his choice of tempo. Sokolov is one of my favs. too.

Doesn't get much better than Sokolov. Electrifying performance. Particularly love how every note in the LH can be heard clearly at the climax 5:04. The final peroration is truly on fire.

thank you for this superb recording..but What On Earth does that boat have to do with this music???????

+konstantinoupianist this beautiful poetic coloured old rotten dead boat is the house of scriabin,s birds...a cathedral for them
@Mezzotenor7 жыл бұрын
I don't recall Scriabin paying much attention to the birds. Is it possible you're thinking of Olivier Messiaen, another fascinating, wonderful composer? (French, 1908-1992)

If we consider the programmes of his recorded recitals in the late sixties, I think this recording was made in 1969.
@Davidpianist-ge5et7 жыл бұрын
As early as that? I hope he has still been playing this wonderful piece since then :-)
@stonefireice60582 жыл бұрын
I doubt that. Sokolov was only 19 and a superb pianist, but Scriabin was not in his repertoire.

Is the pianist Pogorelich? He has registered a live that is my favourite interpretation of the sonata and this recording is very similar as way of playing. Moreover the descrption says "russian radio archive", does someone know who the pianist is with more confident than mine
