Keep in mind that he wanted to tell the truth, but Indara instructed him to not reveal their involvement. The easiest way to cover it up was to tell a half truth: Mae did start the fire (they didn't know it was an accident), but it was not the fire that killed everyone. You can tell that Sol has been struggling with that lie since before the words even left his mouth, he never wanted to lie to Osha but he knew that in order for the council to allow her to become a Jedi they would have to hide the truth, and in that moment Osha just wanted to be a Jedi above everything else.

@@emilysheldon3284 Yeah, but c'mon. He literally chose to let Mae die. He killed their mother in a split-second. Honestly? If it wasnt for him, they would ALL be alive now. His hubris and blindness to reality forked everything up. Indara was just picking the pieces. If only he heard her before.

@@luhguren He literally chose to save one of them instead of failing to save both of them. He killed a witch who was about to use a spell which might be some kind of attack. Mind you, this is the same witch who already mind controlled and tortured the young padawan of his team in the first meeting even before things became serious. Ofcourse it's easy to consider the danger of the spell she's about to do and act fast. You're asking for Sol to do the anime trope of "Let's wait and see what attack/spell/transformation the opponent is going to do".

@@pdas4182 I'll give you the killing of aniseya because she was turning into a weird smoke thingy and he had no idea what was happening. Now, when he decided to let mae die so he could hold the bridge instead of hold just the girls and not the whole bridge, that was stupid of him.

@@luhguren So.... you would rather have it that he would let both the girls die? He's clearly seen struggling to hold both the bridges. Even if he could hold both the bridges a bit longer, the girls definitely didn't seem to have any other option to escape. I think the same applies to holding both the girls also. He just couldn't do it (maybe he wasn't strong enough at that time). You just can't assume that he could do it. So he made a choice to save one of them instead of losing both (clearly he's seen in emotional pain when he lets go of one bridge). It wasn't stupid. But yes, it was selfish that he chose Osha instead of Mae because of his emotions.

Jedi are taught to "trust your feelings" because that's how the Force guides them, but that's why exercising emotional control is so important in Jedi training, otherwise they'd constantly be mistakenly following their own willful, selfish emotions instead of the will of the Force. Throughout the series. Sol has shown himself to be very emotional which makes him relatable and human to a sympathetic viewer, but it also makes him a questionable. He believes it's the will of the Force for him to protect and mentor the twins, but I think it's possible that the "no attachments" rule of the Jedi Order may have left him with an unfulfillable desire to have a family and raise children and that his attachment to the twins is to a large extent driven more by this emotional void than by the will of the Force and that his emotions are clouding his judgement and his rationality. I'm probably wrong and just making things more complicated than they really are, but I think that would make him a more understandable and classically tragic character.

He invaded her home twice and then killed the mother in front of her child and the entire coven. Just because he didn't understand their culture and assumed the mother actually wanted to murder her own children -- even though she showed no indication of wanting to do that whatsoever. Indara warned him multiple times not to interfere, not to confuse his wishes with reality and also told him the Council decided not to separate the children from their coven. Indara warned that cultural markings were common in many cultures around the galaxy and he called it "dark magic". Imagine invading someone's home with weapons in hand, making questions about their kids and then killing the mother when she is rushing off to save her daughter from danger.

I have to take back what I theorized about Anisaye turning into smoke. Leslye Headland herself says "Anisaye is transforming herself and Mae herself into the Force in a way that doesn't kill them" - basically trying to become one with the Force/become some sort of force ghost without having to die first. Thing is, though Leslye is the showrunner, there were several screenwriters, and so Leslye's interpretation of that scene may not be what the screenwriters intended when they wrote it.

I think Master Indara accidently killed all the witches, it looked like she felt them die and was shocked. She was the most careful and still ended killing everyone, I think that's why she was more inclined to lie to the council since she was hiding the guilt from everyone, they all ended with alot of guilt and Calnaka ended with going mad from the effects of Master Indara interrupting the ritual.

for Sol it's more than just being a social worker (nice comparison btw) or even about his perceived connection with Osha, it's about the discovery of a vergence in the force. Anakin was one. These twins he believes is another, and thus they were created by the force, maybe even by the bright tree.

The one thing I don't get about this episode is what happened to Mae's "I'm going to kill you." line. Thanks for your dialed-in reaction, Emme! 🌑 The "we must be sacrificed" misquote little 'Mae' relayed to 'Indara' and 'Sol' had a huge impact. They literally thought the girls would be sacrificed. 'Aniseya' actually said, "It is about sacrificing a *part* of ourselves". 🔸 It's also wild to learn that 'Sol' was imposing his own wants (to have a Padawan... even though he might not be ready) onto the situation. He even almost lost his temper on 'Indara' at the end. That shows a very un-Jedi-like conflict that adds to his motivations. 🔸 Ms. Headland says she doesn't like ending a series on a cliffhanger, so she made sure to end this one in a satisfying way. Hopefully, we'll feel that next week.

Emme, I didn't catch the kitten's name, but what a little CUTIE!!! You don't have a "pet", you have a "feline friend for life". I have 7 cats in all, and of that 7, four of them were raised from tiny kittens into adulthood. Cats are wonderful companions (and yes, I know you have a dog as well), as they aren't as "needy/clingy" as dogs are. Not that I have anything against dogs... we have a 15 year old miniature poodle, and an 8 month old Pekingese puppy. We had to put down our pitbull last year, because she had fallen down the stairs and sustained an injury that, at the age of 13, really couldn't be repaired. But we gave her a good life, and I have her ashes next to my computer desk because she loved being with me. So, now she will be until the day I join her. Anyway.... about the episode... I knew that Sol was hiding a REALLY dark and traumatic event here. As much as I love his character (and massive respect for the actor, who learned English specifically for this role)... It was obvious that he had been "hiding" something, and now we're learning WHAT he was hiding. I have no spoilers for how this series will conclude, but I still think there is more to the speed of that fire than has been revealed. I highly suspect that either Qimir, or a previously unknown Sith/Dark Side Force user helped that along, somehow. We don't know Qimir's age, but we do know that the Dark Side can hide one's age (Palpatine for example). There is a LOT to unpack in this episode, and I am watching it closely, and taking notes. Also, for the record, I **STILL** love this series, and hope that season 2 is greenlit at some point. 10:45 - And THAT is the main flaw of the Jedi Order at this point in time. It's like Qimir said in the previous episodes, "I want to be free, to practice my powers as I wish", and "I have no name, but a Jedi like you, might call me, 'Sith'." He's not saying that he IS a Sith, but that because he utilizes the Dark Side, they would LABEL him as one, and "deal with him accordingly". It's the same with the witches. Notice that the Jedi refer to the witches as a "Force Cult". In other words, a "religion" that isn't approved of by "the state (the Republic) or their religion-based enforcers (the Jedi)". THAT is part of what I've been trying to explain to the haters for the last few weeks. 14:00 - Again, this whole series is about "From a Certain Point of View" (as spoken by Obi-Wan Kenobi in Return of the Jedi)... another point I've been arguing about. Also, from Qui-Gon Jinn, "Your focus determines your reality." The witches see the Jedi as enforcers of "what is right, but ONLY from their own perspective" (As the one mother said previously, "This is about power, and who is allowed to use it") But both mothers are trying to protect the coven in their own way. One wants to let Osha go to try and fulfill her dreams, while the other will do ANYTHING (including die, and take everyone else with her) to prevent it. The Jedi (especially Sol) see the witches as "a cult" who are brainwashing children (as if the Jedi Order isn't doing the same thing), and are willing to do whatever it takes to remove the twins from the coven. 15:05 - Now that the Jedi are asking questions about the twin's origins.... THIS presents a real problem and threat to the coven. It's obvious that they used the Dark Side to create the twins, which makes Sol "double down" on his commitment to "rescue" the girls, whether they want to be rescued or not. This is about the choice he made, and has carried with him ever since. I got a little passed the time index of where you said it, but I had a feeling that the "other mother" had survived all this somehow. I still think that. 19:15 - Good question, and one I keep asking myself, but the answer that keeps coming back is, "It doesn't matter. The entire place is about to blow up and kill anyone who isn't already dead." Also, and I attribute it to their young ages, but Mae SHOULD have said more than just "Mother's dead!" She should have added "The/a (one) Jedi killed her!" (assuming she didn't know Sol's name at the time). At that point, Osha wouldn't have said, "What have you done?!", but asked a different question. But now we see why both twins thought the other was dead, and why Sol carries so much guilt on his conscience. Also, you're right, though.... Indara was the "voice of reason" in this situation... yet everyone went against her orders/suggestions... and look what happened. 20:00 - Imagine how Kelnaka felt, knowing that his mind had been invaded and that he was forced to try and kill his fellow Jedi. He was likely "second most vulnerable" to the witches suggestions, since they left Corbin (or whatever his name was) alone. But now we know how he got his scars, and why BOTH of them went into hiding after this. They both felt that they had much to atone for. I find it strange that Sol did not, though..... something is still up with that. 21:08 - Again..... "From a certain point of view"....

I'll quote one of the best characters in Star Wars: "I do not know what I hate more, cowardice or incompetence." Let's start with Torbin: The problem with this character is the lack of development. Here we have a character who, with one decision, essentially set off all the events. So, here's how it looks: Torbin wants to return to Coruscant > The Jedi are supposed to return to Coruscant > Torbin decides to undertake a mission that the Jedi were not assigned to, in order to return to Coruscant > This leads to everything > After meeting with Mae, Torbin decides to kill himself. Does this make sense? No, because we don't know this character. It could probably make sense if I got to know the character more. So in this case he is used merely as a plot device to move the story forward, and it's terribly done. Sol, the absolute genius. He held up a heavy metal structure with the Force but couldn't lift two children? If it had been a matter of seconds, then it would have made sense. Here, Sol had time to think about what to do. Alright, we could say he acted impulsively and wasn't in control, but they should have shown this better and explained why he got attached to Osha so quickly. The witches... First, the leader. She wants to give her daughter to the Jedi because she wants it. Then she transforms into some demonic entity. If she were thinking, she wouldn't have made such a move because she wouldn't want to escalate the conflict. Well, she did it because she probably wanted to die. Mind control over the Wookiee. When Indara frees Kelnaka, all the witches die? What happened there? Why? That make me consider this episode to be probably the weakest because well nothing makes sense.

@@cthrion_uroniziir How is this warped at all lol. Sure, from our perspective the witches seem more innocent (even though we do not know what they were trying to do), but all the Jedi saw were witches trying to hide some dark side magic and preparing to fight.

Yes that was my view of the episode too. As an empath I really sympathized with Sol because he truly believed he was doing the right thing and in the end he was faced with some impossible decisions that no one should have to make. And even if Sol didn't have an attachment to Osha, it makes more sense to save her than Mae because all they know is that Osha wants to be a Jedi and leave the witches, while Mae is incredibly loyal to them and started the fire (they don't know how the fire started so Sol likely felt the same way about Mae that we did when we first saw the story through Osha's perspective: Mae is just naturally born evil). Imagine yourself in that position but with no attachments to either, just the knowledge that one is loyal to you and one is loyal to your potential enemy, I think the choice would be pretty obvious for who to save.

@@azulknight474 try to imagine that two random dudes break into your childhood home draw weapons and then when your mom goes to protect you she gets stabbed in the gut and murdered. and thed the dude who did it starts screaming that he was sure that you were abused as he's being taken away by police. and who said what the witches were doing is 'dark side magic' everything they explained about themselves so far sounded pretty light side to me.

W T F!! The Jedi Did nothing wrong?? They trespassed On private property They broke in and entered They decided for themselves what was best Because their views differ from another culture sounds like You have a colonial Eurocentric view of things!! That somehow believes that Or should I say the Jedis culture is a superior way of doing things!! That their way of life is Not equal so you have a right to impose your Values upon them And possibly take their children against the parents consent And of course that The Jedis belief systems are superior so they have a right to impose their will upon The witches And take whatever we want including your life if you defend Yourself and then we'll call you Savages or Heathens or terrorists or In this case dark force users News flash even sol knows he's done something wrong!!That's why he wanted to tell the council 16 years ago and it was in Indara that stopped him You're way way off base if you think that Jedi did nothing wrong!!

Oh yeah poor Torbin, all he wanted was to kidnap some kids, kill their family and use them as a tool to go back home. The poor kid. xD Honestly the only one worse than him is damn Sol, the f*cking murderer. So smug and blinded by his desire for a padawan, for a noble cause, to "saving" Osha(and he got Mae confused with her, the oaf). The acting is amazing and the character itself is fascinating, and a great show of what the jedi became. But damn, never before I went from "keep him safe" to "GO! KILL HIM! KILL HIM NOW!" as with Sol. Also, c'mon. Poor Indara. The one that tried to stop this all from happening, and she was the first to die in Mae's revenge!! #JusticeForIndara

@@firstlast-wm3li Yeah, he didn't know. And yet, he made decisions, going even against councils and orders from the Master in charge of his expedition. He so, so, so obviously helped manipulate Osha into joining the order, again, against his superior's orders. He actually kept ignoring all orders he was given based on his uninformed opinions and selfish desires. Literally all of this most likely could've been avoided if he respect at least one of his fucking orders. And, again, he purposefully let one of the children fall to her "death", after killing her mother in front of her, just so that mere hours later he would be blaming her for all *his* actions, the first time he actually followed an order. Convenient he chose to follow when it was fruitful to himself. Normal people avoid making uninformed, rash decisions. Would expect much better from a Jedi Knight.

I think you've completely got Sol wrong. Just my opinion. This is easily the worst episode for so many reasons. Not the least of which (besides the metal detector, which is something I'll never unsee, and highly combustible rocks), was the over-emotional padawan's reason for poisoning himself
