Thanks everyone for your feedback! Please be sure to let me know if you have any favorite standards you would like me to analyze as well as teach the chord melody to.

The Jazz Guitar Channel-Does anyone know what kind of strings Jazz guitarists used in the 1930’s who only played on fully acoustic (pre electric archtop days) and only played chords In the rhythm section as opposed to solos?

Night and Day is a good one as I like working with the C maj to Eb maj progression. Also, my funny valentine has a lovely vibe and some great chord movements. I'd love to see your analysis on these two. And ANYTHING involving Wes. Four on six if that's not pushing things too far!

all I can say is ...WOW! I love seeing (and understanding somewhat) how these tunes are built from the II V I's and the cycle of fifths, which I would never gather from the charts without you...wonderful man.

This is fantastic Richie. Been studying volume 1 of your BGIS course for just over a year and am working through etudes 24 - 27. This is such a succinct tutorial style that encapsulates so much of what I have learnt so far. Please keep this series going if possible. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Several years ago, Chuck Wayne was interviewed by Cadence Magazine and stated that he wrote Solar, but Miles Davis heard it during a session and beat Chuck to the copyright. Since I'm a Chuck Wayne fan, I found the article to be interesting. George sember

Yes, I was made aware of that several years ago by a couple of ex- Chuck Wayne students. I'm not surprised. Miles took credit for many tunes he didn't write. Everyone now knows that Bill Evans really wrote "Blue in Green".

Richie, this is a great idea; a full lesson on a Standard, as usual with a balanced combination of theory that makes for balanced learning opportunity around learning tune, which is ultimately why we are learning this stuff. A word of advice to you fellow students, you need to take this as a lesson, or rather a series of lessons, that you want to study and learn step-by-step taking your time.

Thanks...any Standard you would like to request for the future?

Richie - a suggestion- ‘the Last Time I Saw Paris’ - Jerome Kern - ‘for the times that are in it!
@RichieZellon4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your suggestion, however that is a very obscure standard, at least in the world of jazz. I need standards that are, for instance in the Real Book.

hey, pretty cool logical arrangement, easy enough to follow and the melody is contained in the chord shapes for the most part. yep, this is good stuff to get a grasp of the basic flow of all the iiV1's, something comprehensible. thanks. more would be good. I also noticed it looked like you had stuffed some styrofoam behind your upper f-hole, if I'm not mistaken. to prevent feedback? thanks for all the informative lessons...
