A clip from video I took at the 2017 Solar Eclipse in Menan Buttes Idaho. The constant clicking you hear is 2 other Nikon D4s I had running for 1-second interval time lapses facing towards and away from the sun.
I carried a ton of equipment 1.5 hours up this mountain so I could capture the event as much as possible, and I really wanted to capture my reaction and the people around me as well as the natural phenomena surrounding the eclipse. And it was 100% worth it!
This was truly an amazing experience, and if you get a chance to see the total eclipse in a totality zone in 2024 in the US or any other time it happens around the world, I STRONGLY encourage it!
Thanks for watching!

Really wish someone had a 360´ cam for this location. The dynamic changes in light were just as astounding as the totality.

Agreed - wish I would have! Since we were way up on an elevated location, we could see fairly clearly all around. 2024!!! :D

The total eclipse is a spiritual experience. That is the best way that I can describe it for me.

Thanks - I think I'll look back on this video and it will help remind me of how I felt vs. just what I saw!

Wow. I just found this video. That was amazing. And I thought the partial 96% eclipse in VA was good. Definitely need to plan for the 100% in 2024. Thanks for sharing!

This is amazing!! Thanks so much for sharing. We watched from Malcolm X Park in DC, and even there, it was amazing.

I was in Carbondale, IL for this. The fun part was at the moment of totality, when it suddenly got dark and I found myself fumbling around in the dark with my camera trying to take photos. It was a neat experience, and I hope I can get to Central IN or NW OH in 2024 for the next one.

My problem in Carbondale was being in the dark so suddenly and trying to work my camera in the dark. It got dark so quickly at totality!

You did pretty good at taking the pictures. I had a plan on what I was gonna do, but I forgot everything once totality hit. I got lost at just gazing at the eclipse.

bsfatboy yeah, I went over it in my head like 1,000 times before! I was still overwhelmed but I managed to get what I'd hoped for and still take it in. I don't know if Flickr links work on here, but here's a composite I made of totality and the moments right before and after. flic.kr/p/XMDNVb

I was on the South Butte. I would love to see how your pictures turned out. I am seeking to buy a good one for printing, from someone who captured a great image from the Buttes.

Sterling, if you read this, how far did you travel to come to Idaho to see this, or are you local? Great video! Thank you.

lukeslc Thanks! I flew out from Washington DC to SLC and drove up to Idaho. Most of the people up on the Butte with me were from all over the world. England, France, Germany, Australia, etc... it was a truly life changing experience!

Thank you for your reply. I have watched your video many times. I hope Idaho treated you well. I am from a little town called Sugar City -- 3 miles north of Rexburg.

Yeah it was great, I absolutely love that part of the country! The only problem was the bumper to bumper traffic for 11 hours getting back to SLC. Wish I'd have had more time to let the area clear out, but I had to fly back to DC the very next day. But even that wasn't enough to dampen my spirits after being part of such an impossibly amazing event!

@santa777 yes, the moon's shadow (and the entire path of the eclipse) was from West to East. The event started in Oregon, passed through my viewpoint in Idaho, and crossed the USA west to east through South Carolina on the east coast. The moon itself, from our viewpoint, entered the sun's path on the top right, passed across the sun, and exited on the bottom left. It was beyond thrilling!

Exactly. The moon's shadow where I was was moving at around 2000mph west to east (and slightly to the south)

James W interesting and hyperbolically cynical observation. Where did you experience totality from? How did you react when you saw "just a shadow" rushing and growing towards you, covering your entire plane of view at 2,000 mph, for the first and probably only time in your life? And then, like the flick of a switch, the sun turns black for 2 minutes - something that goes against everything in our brains' databases. Or did you not see it in person from on top of a mountain and have no idea what you're talking about?

let me guess, you didn't see it. You haven't the faintness idea what you're talking about
