Legend presentation. As always. Love your channel and simply just the WAY you present! No ambiguity, BS and you don't talk too fast! Goes straight to my brain.

I just purchased the same brand DIHOOL, though mine is a 60 AMP with Female/ Male MC 4's on input and output ( top/bottom). Our system is small system with 9x100 watt panels on the sheds roof feeding a Zendure Superbase V 4600. The Zendure SBV4600 is an expandable unit that takes whats called Zendure SBV 4600 Satellite battery units, and it can keep expanding up to 46,000 (46K) Wh if needed. The Unit itself weighs about 121 pounds, and its on wheels, and the 2 out of the 4 wheels are powered in which it can be controlled on your cellphone through their APP.

The polarity is Improntant because we're dealing with high voltage DC currents. By design, the plasma arc, created when the breaker trips, will be drawn into the extinguishing plates by a permanent magnet. Wire it wrong and the arc is repelled, and may not ever extinguish. This could cause a fire. Very important to get it correct.

GREAT work! You know one the most important aspects to a quality 'at home' demonstrator: MUSIC. As soon as I hear stupid music I kill the video in .05837 seconds. If, when I'm hearing it, it is also way to loud to hear the presenter, I think I can make the video kill in .003 seconds (depending on how loud the music has been mixed in, or how annoying the music is).

I was about to buy PV disconnect, but I decided on watching a KZfaq first and found you (Subscribing!). Your video reassures my research and installation plans. Going to make my purchase now. Thank you! It would be great if you did videos on extension cables and best practices for getting them inside. I have some of the research, but your studio design and presentation skills help prepare people like me.

Should ferrules have been used on the stripped wires instead of just twisting them before inserting into the breaker?

I watched your video on the Dihool Solar (PV) Disconnects. I am interested in a Dihool smart mcb to control the current used in my shed. The Dihool product drew me to your channel. Anyway, your video was very clear, concise, and effective. I will watch for your future videos. Thanks.

Thx a lot for all your efforts. You're absolutely good at what you do. Having said that, let me put in my 2 cents. When you're using the EG4 18K-PV (Hybrid inverter) you do not need a combiner box. Also, many are moving away from it and using instead an isolator. Thx

HOWdy T-J-B, ... Thanks for taking us along ... by the way = those weather / water TIGHT fittings are referred to as: "GLANDS" ... suggestion: when installing / securing STRANDED-WIRE in a screw-down FITTING (like your circuit-breaker) you might want to explore the use of FERRULES ... ... ferrules bind all of your STRANDED Wires together in a bunch to allow for a better contact &

Didn't even know these existed. I might have installed one at the cabin. Right now I just have an in-wall SAE socket.

The hardcore reason to connect the positive from the panels to the positive on the breaker is about how the breaker does its job. Internally it has an electromagnet that is used to pull the contact away to open the connection when the breaker senses over-current. If connected in reverse, the over-current will cause this magnet to PUSH the connectors together causing the breaker to cook itself.

I’d advise using ferrules and double insulating the connectors. Postive and negative must be in the correctly poled connectors or Arcing will probably occur.

Keep the french cleat, but put a piece of wood on the lower screws that keeps it pulled down. That'll keep the cleat engauged, but be easily removable.
@heffe2001
@heffe2001 10 ай бұрын
In other words, put a regular piece (not beveled) at the bottom, using the bottom screw holes on the box, that touches the flat bottom part of the cleat board, applying pressure on the top cleat. Still easy to remove (just take that board out), but won't mess up your wall either.

I was thinking about a board above cut to fit so it cannot move up. Or a board cut at an angle and use it as a wedge to hold it down.

If you place a straight 1 x 2 on the bottom you should be able to semi-permanent mount the bottom portion of your breaker box under the French cleat. this keeps the box from raising off the cleat. I hope I was clear on what I said here.

So you could do a dedicated battery disconnect box just like that? Battery disconnects are not an easy solution to find online. Most search finds stuff for marine or rv life rather than residential. I need to have a disconnect for 20KWH eg4-LL battery backup. Would something like this work?

Other than the polarity signs for avoiding shorting mistakes, is there any difference with an AC breaker? (I can use a sharpie to add +/-)
@cautiouscommenter
@cautiouscommenter 9 ай бұрын
The differences are monumental. AC cycles give the breaker a safe way to break the current at 0v. DC doesn't have that cycle, the current is constant. So, DC breakers need a mechanism to stop the electrical arc that forms when it tries to break the connection. Some people call it an arc-extinguisher.

8 Gauge wire on a 100 amp breaker??
@topeye4202
@topeye4202 7 ай бұрын
WARNING: If this polarized breakers are connected with the source (solar panels) comming from bellow, the plus pole must be connected on the side where on top the minus symbol is printed on the breaker. There are magnets inside to push the spark into the extinguishing chamber, otherwise the spark is pushed in opposit direction into the mechanism and the breaker catch on fire within seconds! The current flow must go from + to - and of course the + stay a + even he leaves the breaker throught the - terminal. If coming with the source from above as shown in video, the + must be connected on the side where the + symbol is.

@@tjmooney4181 If there are only polarity marks on the top, but you come with source from below, then plus goes into the minus side.

Why not just use a light switch? Maybe a stupid question but if it is a small PV system it should be fine. Right?

Reason it's marked negative and positive. The reasoning is when the switch is on or off it engages the off position on the negative side first before the positive side when you turn it on it does the positive and then adds the negative within the switch so there's no spark. It's like a car battery you always remove the negative 1st.

A small block of wood below the cleat and screwed to box, But breakers really are not disconnects they are meant for protection of the wiring

I don't need that thing. I run off 12 volts and everything is smooth. Connecting your solar to the utilities isn't very bright.
