After talking to you about some solar reflective paint in my Amazon Haul video last month, a few of you suggested hiring an air compressor and paint gun to apply. (I'd also mentioned reading bad reviews about paint brushes leaving in streaky).
So, in today's video, I show you how I get on in an attempt to cool down my very hot conservatory using solar reflective paint off ebay.
Sadly a couple of years, the DIY roof blinds I made (which reduced a lot of heat) had to come down as they got in the way of our new vertical blind fittings. Here's a video if you want to learn how I made them: • DIY Conservatory Sun R...
And to get the best finish, I sprayed with a really cool paint spray system from Wagner: bit.ly/2vN0hvT
Also, I've been nominated for my 2nd blogging award this year for Best DIY & Home Improvement. I'd LOVE it if you could support me by giving me a vote: bit.ly/2wlOHYs

Hi. By painting on the inside, you still allow the roof surface to collect solar heat on the outside surface. Heat will then radiate into your room, irrespective of the paint. You have to deter the solar heat on the side of the source (outside) to solar down the heating of the surface, before heat radiates through. Hope this helped. Will look out for your video and results of the external coating!

perfect fit blackout / thermal pleated conservatory roof blinds could be the best , but far too dear and not really worth it. I thought about using 1m wide x roof panel length blackout pleated blinds ( eg ikea type?) with the base attached to top end, and slide open/shut with a hooked-pole. ( the problem I cannot get around yet ) About 1/4 in along both sides run thin but very strong metal poles/rods or ? ( that dont bow) to support the blinds . But they need to look good , not diy.

Hi, found this video whilst looking for reviews on the Wagner W100. Saw your newer video on fence panels where you use the W200? How come you swapped to the W200? I am wanting to spray a lot of plywood 8x4 sheets and wondering if a W100 or W200 would do the job with satinwood finish paint? Any thoughts? Thanks Trev
@TheCarpentersDaughterUK
@TheCarpentersDaughterUK 6 жыл бұрын
I had both all along. One was for fencing alone and this one was for inside. I'm not sure satinwood would work - perhaps a waterbased one might be ok if thinned, but can't be sure. The reason I mention this is I spotted on the back of my Dulux Trade Satinwood gloss and is strictly said not to use in a sprayer - I think it's because it's toxic though.

Hi there you probably got it sorted but I watched some one painting this roof with solar x but he painted the top and he says you have to put on three coats and he says it keeps the heat out but we have a conservatory like yours we have roof blinds and on the sides we have had the conservatory for a bout six years and it has been usles it is like a sauna in the day and like a freezer on a night but I was looking into wat to do and it has been suggested to replace it but I have been told to put on some insulation to reflect the heat so I'm going to try that first I was thinking to use bubble insulation sola reflect the sun has distroyed all the things in there eney way I thought it might be worth a try before spending a fortune it cost us about &8000 and hardly been used

I did see someone spread or roll silicone on top and worked out it would cost £1. In the end, I bought an air con unit that also blew hot in the winter.

Try using insulation such a kingspan or other alternatives as I was speaking to someone I work with and they have done this to the roof off his conservatory and it had worked a treat! Stick it up with silicone and either plasterboard over it or clad it with white pvc

How about using the kingspan instead of the polycarbonate roof. Pull the old panels off. Cut kingspan to size and paint then slide in. Everyone I see keeps the old polycarbonate tiles.

Hello c.d/vicky i purchaaed a wagner 200 last week think its biggest load of well you know what i mean motor went on it went and got it replaced about 3 days ago as if i wanted my money back it would have had to be sent off to manufacturers wish I'd have sent it off and waited for refund replacement also a piece of yes you guessed it, has watched you spray the cardboard its to slow to cover, anyway don't know if you can get it here but there's a paint that was used on top of a bus/camper it apparently keeps the temperature at bay, dont know the link but if you type in roll with it, painting the bus a couple doing a school bus up, the paint rubberizes, if your interested, keep busy lol

+John Price oh no! Not sure what the difference is in the model but loved mine. Wish I'd tried this before decorating though. I'm in France at the minute and seen so many windows covered in sheets that must be spraying instead of painting. Ouch, just seen your stuff is $199 a tub. Mines a 6 x 3m area to cover. Just found a £97 a tub (looks similar) to cover 2m square but it must be more effective than water based stuff! I think I'll check out Direct Blinds first and go from there.

will not be as effective inside, as the heat passes through the panels, reflects back into the panel, so the panel is getting almost twice the heat, making the panel hot, heating the air in the conservatory.. We have the black and decker version of that paint sprayer, great for throwing paint on fast, but it gets into everything! the air turns, well the colour of your paint, you need a mask, a nasa space suit, your home needs sheets on everything, oh how we laughed not knowing this and doing the stairs... only to find everything in the front room a darker shade of 'oh what the f'' wouldnt be without it, i'm painting my big white van dark green next....

+lez briddon thanks for the feedback and lol. Hopefully it will help others. I had wondered about that regarding inside and out but so disappointing after reading reviews on Amazon saying painting inside worked for them. We've been talking about spraying the van after seeing a few pimp my ride type videos on Netflix.. It's called Custom... something?

I am surprised that you were able to use an emulsion type paint using the Wagner W100, I was considering this model but it is limited to wood and metal. And when I checked eith Wagner to see if it could be used with emulsion paints for indoor walls etc they replied it couldn't and suggested on one of their universal machine models. So very confused after seeing your review.

My experience with similar guns...I diluted the paint at various dilutions and found the best one that didn't spatter. I used an Albany water based wood paint on MDF and was quite pleased with the final result. Sanding in between coats is recommended.

@@JohnnyMotel99 The Wagner Wood and Metal paint sprayer is ok with those types of paint and designed for small to medium job coverage in wood and metal, but was said to be by Karcher themselves not suitable for indoor emulsion wall and ceiling paints. They advised I would need a different model.

Oh my! with what you have already spent on fabric, dowling and everything else you purchased for your roof blinds that you made plus the expense of this project you must be very near the cost of the roof blinds? what a shame as all your hard work & efforts still haven't given you the results you want!
