Didn't have to go any further than our backyard firepit to enjoy this show - the eye of the solar storm opens up right above us and stayed there for two hours.
This video is a series of 1100, 4-sec still shots that provide a show that is one part kaleidoscope, two parts Rorschach test, and five parts totally mesmerizing. No filters, just frames and fades.
Enjoy this one - there may be a sequel coming out tomorrow!
Music by CoAg, aptly title "Neon Lit Sky."

I have had alerts set for a space weather site for 9 years and didn't get a message, missed it completely. ‘ITV News meteorologist and weather presenter Chris Page said it is possible the Northern Lights will be visible this evening. "Tonight the solar storms are likely to continue and are likely to be visible again. However, the storm is reducing in intensity and it's thought the display won't be as potent as last night. "Nonetheless, for a once in a lifetime opportunity, it's definitely worth a look."’

@arcanondrum6543
@arcanondrum6543 24 күн бұрын
I agree about the rarity of violet (and this had red/orange as well). I saw a massive storm when I was about 12. At the time, there was no facility in that NNW part of the sky with its 24 hour lights. The mostly green aurora was intense and rolled in ribbons. Auroras are or were, so rare that I would have dressed warmly and stayed throughout had I known. Viewing in three dimensions is unbeatable. Your neighbors may not have much interest. Wealthy or poor seems to be no prediction either. For me, the additional colors will have me checking on the "why" again and I can't help but remember what even NASA has said, on their Channel, about the Van Allen Belt. Nor can I forget how we stuck 6 landings with less computation power than a digital watch, zero perspective on boulder size and yet Spirit and Opportunity both bounced and rolled onto Mars for quite a while before the half filled balloon(s) finally stopped.

Please make a video about SpaceX new EVA suit. Its ridiculous out of date. Not enough padding, so radiation and thermal shielding is not good. So a Solar storm would be very dangerous.
