"Then how sorry are you?" Solas...that's a lot to ask of one person. It'd take reform in the entire Tevinter Imperium to fix those issues. It's not so easy for just one man to do, if it's even possible for that to be done.

Is it ironic or sad that every major issue in Thedas has the exact same solution? Want to make up for destroying Elven history? Free all Tevinter slaves! Want to stop mistreatment of Mages? Don't lock them up in Circles! Want to start treating City like everyone else? Free them from the Alienages and give them better lives! Want to be free to do whatever you want? Stop assigning one job for life under the Qun! it goes on, and on, and when people show them how to do something, whether it's the right way or not, it's viewed as extreme and causes more problems than solutions!

Arlathan fell when Solas created the Veil. Dorian was apologizing to Solas for a tragedy he himself wrought. Hence the strong reaction.

I love that Dorian actually seems like he's going to try to try to stop slavery in Tevinter. Say what you will, but in the end I think Solas and Dorian were on friendly terms, maybe even friends (at least in my playthrough). Dorian grew as a character, ate a bit of the humble pie and stopped constantly hiding behind sassiness in order to accept weaknesses and be vulnerable. Likewise, Solas learned the ever important lesson that there are still good people coming from Tevinter, just like everywhere else in the world. That morality and servant leadership isn't dead yet. It's fascinating to me to see how all the characters kind of swapped around traits and empowered each other. Though I don't think Vivienne, Varric, or Sera grew or traded perspectives as much.
@JazzyRiot79
@JazzyRiot79 3 жыл бұрын
Agree and being fair on Vivienne and Varric there isn't much for them to learn from their time with the inquisition but with Viv you at least see different sides of her personality depending on your personal relationship with her and in Sera's case she's still young and makes the active choice to be a somewhat ignorant, obnoxious ass but her heart is at least in the right place and who's to say she won't grow as a character if she's brought back for Dread Wolf Rises?

@@JazzyRiot79 That is true. It made me remember her visible vulnerability when her friend died (which I hope was genuine grief...her actions after that made me almost cry with frustration to think that she had seemed to open herself up but then turned around and used the death in a superficial way). I love it when there's a conversation about mages and I can hear the gears turning in her head like "oh, that's a new perspective" and at least listening and engaging. I guess I didn't travel with Sera as much, heh heh. I do agree that her heart's in the right place and though my Inquisitor kinda chewed her out (stern papa Lavellan-mode XD ) after the incident with the Count, the Inquisitor also admitted that she was right to act on what the Count was doing. I hope she's in the Dread Wolf Rises! :D I'd be pumped if I could recruit the Red Jennies as like spies or informants. :)

@@lauranimbus8092 Vivienne definitely cared about Bastien but she also realizes despite her influence, she is still a mage hanging around nobles and now has lost the nobleman she was lovers with which makes her a small fish surrounded by piranhas. It's just like with GoT, no matter how much you're personally grieving you still have to rationally plan ahead and use whatever you can to your advantage in the Grand Game or else it will chew you up and leave you for dead or worse, Vivienne is definitely more passionate and emotional than she allows herself to openly show though & Sera can be very fun to hang around but just like with Vivienne she tends to be judgy towards things outside of her realm of knowledge, mostly out of fear or bad past experiences so while it can be frustrating it is also understandable and she nonetheless puts her dislikes aside most times for the sake of those who get close to her (her eventual friendship with Cole, friendship with Dorian for being a mage, her friendship with Blackwall even after finding out the truth about him, her friendship with Lavellan after the well of sorrows even) honestly Sera to me at least is an underrated character and a very good friend/little sister figure but pretty toxic lover.

@@lauranimbus8092 that all being said I do like the fact that Sera very much so has her own beliefs that she sticks to strongly instead of her beliefs being easily changed through a quick companion quest like I've seen in a lot of games, it makes her feel more grounded and real as character even if it is a bit of a flaw in her personality, she holds her boundaries tight but doesn't let them blind her.

Most are defending Dorian and criticizing Solas. Let's be honest, Solas is right in this. If you are truly sorry for something wrong ones people did, then you must support those that are from that whom you supposed to feel sorry for. Not with words, but with actions. If Dorian was really sorry, he would have freed his slave and then offer them a job as respectable people.

And the world is ok at the moment? I understand that another way must be found (I hope to convince Solas of this in the next game and work with him to achieve it) but how is the red lyrium, oppression of so many different peoples, and Blights livable conditions? If anything the current Thedas is clawing its way towards a post-apocalypse. "With great power comes great responsibility." I guess I never saw as Solas having "destroy the world" as his end goal. He never even says it is a certainty ("even IF it destroys this one"). Yes, as far as we know destroying the Veil would destroy the world; at least in part from societies and regimes built around confining magic to the powerful or those easily controlled being brought down. Yet, we'd be so eager to damn Solas if he just shrugged and never even tried to set things right. It would be against his nature to opt out and let things continue when he knows they can and should be better. Sorry for the long explanation. :( I often feel like a silent section of the Dragon Age populous who didn't romance anyone.

@@lauranimbus8092 Solas does not have the right to decide this, though. Not even remotely. His actions would, doubtlessly, result in the death of millions, if not billions. He does not have the right to change the world yet again just because he thinks it is the right thing to do or because, down the road, things *might* be better. What is important is the present, not the past or a possible future, and the people currently alive have a right to live and to continue living, possible utopia or lost glory be damned.

@optimaltt6070
@optimaltt6070 Жыл бұрын
I don't think that was the point. Forget would or should for a second. This is a matter of if/when someone COULD at all . Sure, intentions and obligations are neat, but how far can they go? That's the point, and not only in Dorian's case. For what it's worth, Solas isn't blaming or hating Dorian. This much is evident. It's like a five-year old saying "I'll solve world hunger!" only for their parent to say "please...please don't say that unless you know HOW'"
@onba7726
@onba7726 Жыл бұрын
@@optimaltt6070 Sorry, your wrong. It's not about semantics here, Dorian repeatedly shows a desire to make things right, and Solas is repeatedly an ass about it. When Dorian says he didn't think he could, he obviously means it exactly like he said it. But Solas is an egotist who can't except failure, even his own. He just can't except that a person can do everything right, and still loose. Remember, Solas is trying to destroy the entire world in order to 'fix' it, despite not actually knowing if that would work (and we see it doesn't when the inquisitor's in the future. Future Solas even admits that). Nothing but perfection will do for this not-god-but-I'm-going-to-act-like-it. Solas IS blaming Dorian too, but that is easy to miss if you never got certain dialogs. Dorian is repeatedly nice to Solas and tries to be friends with him, and Solas gits snappy for no reason. He clearly holds some prejudice towards Dorian for things the man has no control over. Dorian isn't even in a position TO do anything yet, as he is not a magister, though he is in line to be one in the future. We also know that Solas is very judgmental in general, to the point of being racist, though not in a hatefully why. Also, I don't see what your last statement has to do with topic at hand. No one said 'tell me how or don't try'. Solas is the one told Dorian if he didn't get results he wasn't serious, which is very insulting considering several Archons died trying to end slavery. They literally lost everything and the only thing Solas's has to say about it is 'they weren't sorry enough'. I even hate the idea that they should be sorry! THEY didn't do anything wrong, and guilt should not be the motivating factor in doing the right thing anyway!

I don’t like the idea arlathan is the black city, but if arlathan was contingent on elements both in the fade and thedas (like the library in trespasser) then it’s fall could have something to do with the creation of the veil. When Solas is angry at Dorian claiming responsibility I think it’s his own guilt. The Dalish claim the fall of arlathan stems from the dread wolf disconnecting the people from their gods by trapping them the beyond. Merrill, Morrigan and Abelas all refute the Tevinter involvement in the fall of arlathan claiming that infighting amongst the people caused them to disconnect the crossroads, and the fallout of arlathan was predicted long before.

I know we love Dorian and Solas is clearly hiding things but let's be honest here Tevinter is really to blame for so much crap it's ridiculous, mainly the treatment of everyone. people fear Mages and therefore oppress them, take their children and pretty much assume they are criminals from birth because of Tevinter, people treat all Elves like second class basically not even people because Tevinter has pretty much always kept them as slaves and in turn the Dalish don't feel any obligation to help or deal with the humans at all so in turn the humans/chantry think they are right in crushing them into submission because they can and because they don't believe what they believe

Tevinter is in no way responsable de thee opresaion of Mages. Peoples ignorance and hypocrisy is. The truth is a lot of people in thedas believe that the imperium is so depraved because it is rules by mages, and in reality the rest of thedas is equally depraved. Blood magic? We know it is not inherently evil. Slaves? Elves around thedas are slaves even if they now have the title of servants. Opresión of the poor and the centralization of power for a select elite group? Every damn kindom, empire and country on thedas has this.
